The festive period isn’t always easy and it can be one of the most difficult times of the year for lots of people. There are lots of people feeling the same as you this year. Trust me there are. They are hard to spot because they are probably the ones keeping quiet and hiding or they are putting on a brave face and doing their best to fake it and put on a show. . You aren’t alone and you’re probably in better company than you realise. Don’t be too scared of telling people how you’re feeling, you never know, it might help them to admit that they are struggling too. Give yourself permission to opt out if you want to. Want to skip drinks? Bail on your friends? Bunker down and hide away for a little while? That’s all ok, don’t be afraid of putting your needs first. You don’t need to feel that you have to or should do anything that you don’t want to. Traditions can be lovely things and are a nice way of people providing structure to a holiday but that is all they are and sometimes disengaging with them can be really refreshing! Want to ditch the party and catch up on Netflix instead - go for it! You might end up creating some new ways of spending your holiday time that become personal traditions that work for you. On that note, I just want to say thank you to all of our lovely readers who truly are the gift that keeps on giving. Goodbye 2019 you’ve been a good ‘un!

he story of Naeem Khan’s Fall 2019 show should really begin with its finale. Just as everyone thought they’d seen the last look, out came three surprise models: Pat Cleveland, Alva Chinn, and Karen Bjornson. They were once a part of what was referred to as the Halstonettes; Roy Halston’s muses in the 1970s. Khan apprenticed for Halston back in the day, and it was during his time in that studio working alongside the legendary designer that he learned his craft. The collection he showed, like many of his collections, made nods to his former mentor through the draping and the figure-hugging dress silhouettes. Backstage, Khan articulated that the politically and socially charged times we’re living in now mirror those of Halston’s ’70s. It seemed like he was trying to balance then and now, both in his heart and in his mind. He didn’t elaborate on the state of the world too much, but seeing him walk the runway with Cleveland, Chinn, and Bjornson it was plain to see that he misses those good old days, though of course he’s still moving forward and evolving his brand. @NaeemKhanNYC

Tell us a little bit about yourself. Over my career I’ve had the chance to work with a variety of different beauty, fashion, fitness and lifestyle brands. Joining tarte earlier this year has been more thrilling than I could have even imagined—it’s such an exciting, growing brand where there is no limit on creativity and strategy. It’s a great team to be a part of, and when I’m not in the office or at an event they know they can probably catch me running in Central Park or at a nearby spin class! What does a typical day in your job role at Tarte Cosmetics look like? No two days look the same. I’ll be planning for an international trip one day, working with media on a story another day, and identifying a new brand partner or collaboration the next. That’s what I love about working at tarte, there is always something new to explore and a new challenge to tackle! What has been your biggest challenge to date? How did you overcome this? The public relations field is always evolving. When I entered this industry over a decade ago the landscape of media was different. We were still faxing! SPA InterContinental gave new meaning to the word relaxation on our indulgent visit to the heart of Manama at InterContinental Regency Bahrain

nterContinental Regency Bahrain is synonymous with timeless hospitality and exacting standards. The contemporary exterior houses a variety of venues and dining experiences as well as exquisitely decadent public lounges and of course, SPA InterContinental. This was my destination and I entered with a sense of expectation and anticipation at the prospect of total relaxation and revitalisation. Upon entering the SPA the sense of serenity was overwhelming. Hushed tones, tranquil aromas and knowledgeable, attentive hosts. The welcome included a series of questions which were designed to personalise this experience and to tailor my treatment

to fit my lifestyle and sources of stress. My preferences were duly noted as I was led from the reception area and allowed to familiarise myself with the facilities and treatments available. SPA InterContinental boasts an impressive terrace and access to an outdoor pool area with daybeds and inviting loungers. In addition to the pool visitors to the SPA also have full access to the fitness centre. The dĂŠcor is reminiscent of colonial Asia. Mahogany and bamboo are a continuing theme throughout. Earthy tones and injections of colour such as images of lotus blossom compliment this perfectly. Sophisticated luxuriance, just as expected.

I opted for the Swedish Massage delivered by a highly experienced Thai therapist. Swedish Massage emphasizes long strokes, combined with kneading and friction motions to encourage proper circulation. The technique involves rubbing muscles together in the same direction as the flow of blood to the heart. When a part of the body is massaged in such a fashion oxygen levels blood flow to the area facilitates the delivery of essential nutrients to the cells. Therefore the effects are both immediate and long lasting. My treatment room illustrated why SPA InterContinental is considered one of the best in Manama. Spacious and airy and offering me access to my own en suite bathroom, which was such an unexpected bonus. Although traditional shared facilities are usually

more than adequate, having my own space in which to refresh myself either prior to or following the treatment elevated my experience. My therapist had employed the knowledge she had gleaned from our initial meeting in order to select oil with an aroma that suited my needs. The whole process was a fusion of invigoration and pure unadulterated requiescence. Each stress point and knot was addressed during the course of the massage. The length of each stroke and the motion of muscle-on-muscle was something I had never experienced during other full body massage treatments. I would thoroughly recommend this style of massage as it a blend of rejuvenation, instant gratification and lasting benefits. In order to purge any toxins from my system I was encouraged to drink one of the complimentary infused waters which were abundant in restorative ingredients, antioxidants and were extremely refreshing. The glow which was conjured by the skilled therapist was both physical and spiritual. The relaxation areas allowed me to fully embrace the benefits before stepping back into the hustle and bustle of the city. The Swedish Massage treatment therapy can be helpful with a number of physical challenges, such as the reduction of scar tissue by physically manipulating the fibres of the tissue, allowing the scar tissue to be reabsorbed into the skin. When Ohlala was invited by Euro Motors to test drive the new 8 Series M850i xDrive Convertible, we could not have been happier to accept. Our first impression of this convertible was that it is aesthetically stunning. The master designers at BMW have created a truly magnificent vehicle to look at. This state-of-the-art sports car has a character all of its own, one that radiates high-performance and modern extravagance. Strong yet light-weight materials including aluminium, magnesium and carbon fibre reinforced plastic have been extensively used to reduce the weight of the vehicle, adding to its performance capabilities. The anthracite soft top with silver effects blends effortlessly into the dynamic lines of the vehicle and we could not wait to get out on the open road with the top down. Despite its elegant curves, there is no mistaking that this car has

been built with power and speed in mind. The wide, low-slung front end, complete with standard LED headlights, exudes sporting intent and gives the vehicle a confident presence. Powerfully flared wheel arches housing 20-inch M light alloy wheels, slim all-LED rear light clusters and twin exhaust tail pipes all add to this carâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s already striking appearance. The flawless nature of the 8 Series Convertible continues in the design of the interior. Ambient lighting greeted us as soon as we slipped into the cabin, illuminating the lavish layout. At the simple push of a button located on the centre console, the soft top folded away in approximately 15 seconds, which is possible to do even at speeds of up to 50 km/h. At this point, the full splendour of the car revealed itself to us in all of its glory. The materials used throughout the interior are of premium quality and the overall design is both beautiful and functional. The electronically operated sports seats with built in head restraints feature a Merino leather trim and are possibly the most comfortable seats we have experienced to date.

Passengers still have plenty of head room when the top is up as well as leg and shoulder room, ensuring everyone a comfortable ride. The rear seats provide excellent lateral support and integral head restraints, allowing all occupants to share in the sports-car feel. The boot of this convertible has a capacity of 440-litres which is big enough to accommodate three golf bags. This model is equipped with The BMW Live Cockpit Professional with navigation function that includes a high-quality display network, consisting of a high-resolution 10.25-inch touchscreen Control Display, along with a fully digital, 12.3-inch screen instrument display. We soon managed to find our way around this system and were impressed by how functional and practical it was. The holiday season means pretty lights

and lots of feel-good movies about the magic of the holiday spirit. But it also means hectic travelling, stressful shopping, and family drama. Every year we manage to survive the holiday season’s odd mixture of warm fuzzy feelings and I-can’t-wait-for-this-to-be-over moments. Between commercialism sapping the meaning out of the joy of giving and the inevitable drama that comes with putting a bunch of people with the same genes in a room together, we could all use a reminder or two about what the holidays are supposed to mean. Of course, books are a great place to find a few words of wisdom about family, giving, new beginnings, and, yes, even food. And, you know, writers, the keen observers of the world, aren’t just going to let you off the hook with a couple of cheesy clichés. All the silly, messy, ridiculousness that comes along with the chaotic season of crowded airports, fridges exploding with Tupperware, and coping with

your parents’ annual amnesia that you’re not actually 10 years old anymore should really be celebrated. Okay, so you’re all grown up now, with a big fancy job, your own apartment, and a gym membership or whatever, we get it… and I’m sure your parents get it, too. But it’s the holidays, let loose a little. No one’s gonna judge you for making the leaning tower of pies out of the leftovers. Besides, how often do you get to wear fluffy pyjamas and rip open your presents like the feral child that you once were? Remember, gift giving is supposed to feel good. Make sure you’re giving the kind of gift that will make you as happy to give it as it will make them to receive it. That’s how you know it’s meaningful. Gifts are hard, but if you take a second to think about the non-material things that someone might appreciate, a night off from parenting, someone else cleaning the house for once, a whole day of sleeping... you could very well give them the best gift they’ve ever gotten without spending too much.
