One of my favorite books of 2013.
Most of Shibata's work is large scale, revealing the extraordinary detail contained within his images and producing a heightened version of reality. However, this work is based on contact prints only few centimetres wide. Rather than overpowering us with their scale, they become more delicate, more fragile as the geometric lines and abstract qualities of the compositions are emphasized.
