SPECIAL EDUCATION INTERN Internship Description: The Attleboro Center is a 12-bed Community Based Acute Treatment (CBAT) facility located in Attleboro, Massachusetts. The program provides acute psychiatric stabilization services to adolescents between the ages of 12-18 years. The tutoring program is facilitated by a certified classroom teacher and is conducted Monday through Friday from 9:00-11:00 am during the regular school year. We are seeking student interns who would be available to assist with the facilitation of daily tutoring as well as be available to provide individual tutoring/academic assistance to residents in the program. Qualifications: - Work with a diverse adolescent population with a range of psychiatric and behavioral needs. - Assist with the development and implementation of lesson plans. - Learn and utilize effective behavior management techniques in a classroom setting. EDUCATION & PUBLIC PROGRAMS INTERNSHIP Internship Description: Interning at the ITHF&M is a wonderful opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students to obtain comprehensive training in the fields of museum studies, archival administration, library management, educational and public program development, preservation, video production, and historical scholarship. The internship program is project-oriented and designed to coincide with student interests and professional goals. Working with a member of the museum staff, all interns receive one-on-one attention in their chosen fields. Interns assist in the planning and implementation of programs for all audiences including schools. Interns gain experience researching and creating programs tied state and National Curriculum Standards. Possible areas of program development include history, social studies, math, science, art, physical education and health. Interns assist in facilitating school and group tours, and create new ideas for public and family programming. Interns also play a role in research and outreach to area schools, groups and attractions. Interns spend time as part of the front line staff, giving tours and interacting with visitors to develop customer service and public speaking skills. Qualifications: Internships are open to college juniors and seniors and graduate students and are available all year round. The International Tennis Hall of Fame & Museum asks a commitment of at least 100 hours (8 hours a week) although accommodations can be made for certain situations. Positions are competitive and interviews will be requested of qualified candidates. The number of interns varies per semester depending on the availability of projects. Every effort will be made to match the skills and interests of the prospective interns with the priorities of the department. CAAP MENTOR Internship Description: BASIC FUNCTIONS: CAAP (Crusade Adventure and Academic Program) is a 10 week high intensity program designed to build self-esteem and confidence in middle school aged Crusaders by having them participate in a variety of problem solving tasks, group challenges and healthy risk taking adventures. The program runs for 10 consecutive Saturdays in the fall from October – December and again from March - May. Mentors are role models who work in pairs with large and small groups of middle schoolers to implement the CAAP curriculum. SPECIFIC DUTIES: Work directly with middle school Crusaders in large and small groups. Implement curriculum and initiate teambuilding activities. Provide direct supervision of Crusaders in the program and in the community. Promote academic success and personal development. Develop strong relationships with Crusaders. Serve as a positive role model throughout the program. Must commit to all 20 sessions. Qualifications: Education: Currently enrolled in an accredited college or university. Experience: Experience working with youth; especially diverse populations. VIDEO GAME RESEARCHER, REVIEWER Internship Description: Play and review a variety of video games and other digital technologies for an educational technology company. Try out the newest games for Xbox 360, iPhones and all other game systems. Become a writer/reviewer of games that are fun and can also be used as an educational tool. Assist in the design and management of a series of research projects involving the use of video games for teaching thinking and academic skills. Work directly with children and parents who are study participants. Assist graduate students, faculty, and other professionals in collection and analysis of research data. Interns will undergo extensive training in game-based learning, developmental and clinical psychology. Will need excellent writing (in addition to game playing) skills. Work directly with professional staff to develop online video game teaching guides for children. PUBLIC BENEFITS INTERN Internship Description: The MinKwon Center for Community Action (formerly YKASEC) Summer 2011 Internship Public Benefits Intern The MinKwon Center for Community Action (formerly YKASEC) was established in 1984 to meet the needs and concerns of the Korean American community through our five program areas: Community Organizing and Advocacy, Social and Legal Services, Civic Participation, Youth Empowerment, and Culture. Since our founding, we have made a profound presence in the Korean American community through various grassroots organizing, education, and advocacy initiatives that address important community issues, including immigration policies at the national, state and city levels, voter rights, and culture awareness. The MinKwon Center places a special emphasis on meeting the needs of our marginalized community members, including youth, elderly, recent immigrants, low-income residents, and limited-English-proficient residents. One branch of the MinKwon Center’s Social Services Program focuses on empowering the low-income, immigrant community members to access various government public benefits. The Financial Empowerment Counselor specifically screens for eligibility and assists in the application of Food Stamps, Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP), Lifeline/Safelink Phone Services, and Bank Accounts. Under the direct supervision of the Financial Legal Counselor, the intern will advise and counsel Korean clients, prepare applications, conduct legal/non-legal research on policy issues, and manage client database. Internship Description Maintaining direct contact with Korean clients through counseling and follow-up Researching various laws and policies on the administration of public benefits Analyzing appeals for denied public benefits and representing clients at hearings Assisting clients apply for Food Stamps, HEAP, Lifeline/Assurance Services, and Bank Accounts Preparing and conducting educational workshops on relevant issues related to public benefits Administering benefit screenings for all clients applying for public benefits Managing the client database Details of InternshipSupervision: Intern is supervised by the Financial Empowerment Counselor. Compensation: While internships are not paid positions, academic credit has been arranged in the past. Hours: Interns are expected to work full-time, 10 AM – 6 PM, Monday through Friday. Duration: The internship runs from June to August 2011. Specific internship dates will be discussed in person.
