DMUIC is located in the heart of the DMU campus in the Philip Tasker Building and a few minutes’ walk from Leicester City Centre. Life in Leicester As a DMU International College (DMUIC) student, you are part of DMU’s thriving community. You’ll be living in Leicester, the 10th largest city in England, and its central location means it has excellent travel links with all parts of the UK.

Music and film

Little more than an hour away from London by train, Leicester is a multicultural and welcoming city. The cost of living is lower than London, with low-cost student accommodation near to campus and university halls of residence starting from less than £100 per week, including bills.

Leicester has a thriving music scene attracting big-name bands and artists to venues such as the O2 Academy and De Montfort Hall, while smaller venues such as the Soundhouse, the Shed and the Musician showcase the best of local and touring music artists.

Culture

You’re not going to go hungry or thirsty at DMU, that’s for sure. We’ve got cafés, restaurants and bars throughout campus, serving all kinds of food and drink from around the world. Close to campus you will find major supermarkets and international grocery stores.

Within the city you will find New Walk Museum and Art Gallery, featuring fascinating natural and cultural collections. Newarke House Museum and DMU’s Heritage Centre, both located on campus, also showcase significant historical exhibitions.

Eating

Sport Leicester City defied all expectations to be crowned champions of the Premier League in 2016 and Leicester Tigers are one of the most successful clubs in English rugby. The city is also home to Leicestershire County Cricket Club and the Leicester Riders professional basketball team.

OUR INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE Located at the heart of the De Montfort University (DMU) campus, our college offers international students an incredible opportunity to study in the UK. De Montfort International College (DMUIC) pathway courses give you the chance to gain subject knowledge, build academic English language skills, and transfer to a full DMU degree course upon completion.

DMUIC provides: Great location at the heart of DMU campus Small class sizes with six to eight students in classrooms for on-campus teaching Full DMU student status, with access to all university facilities from day one A seamless transition directly onto your DMU degree course upon successful completion of your studies at DMUIC

DMUIC is dedicated to laying the foundations for your future degree. Courses at DMUIC are designed to give you the very best start to your degree studies with DMU. With experienced teachers and small class sizes you will receive first-class teaching as well as the individual guidance needed to adjust to your new life as a UK university student. Our pathway courses cover a range of undergraduate and postgraduate subjects, and this includes art and design, business and law to engineering, life sciences and pharmacy. Our online Pre-sessional English courses (lasting six or12 weeks) are also available to help you meet our minimum English language requirements. LIFE AT DMU Our students tell us that DMU is the perfect size – large enough to provide support, yet compact and friendly enough to call home. Student Gateway Our friendly team will be able to give advice on important subjects such as careers, housing & welfare support.

Health, wellbeing and worship De Montfort Surgery, on the edge of campus, is an NHS general practitioners’ surgery that provides medical care for our students and some local residents.

De Montfort Students’ Union (DSU) As a student, you will automatically become a member of the union. DSU offers 160-plus societies, sport clubs and volunteering opportunities, which are a great way to practise your English and make friends.

ACCOMMODATION DMU has nine halls of residence for international students, all of which are either on or within 10 minutes’ walk of the campus. There is a choice of mixed or same-gender flats available. Flats are mostly en suite and self-catered, with shared kitchens and laundry facilities on site.

Pre-sessional English (PSE) is offered as an extension to the programmes, to students whose English language does not meet the required level. This programme is taught over either 6 or 12 weeks depending on your current English level.
