This seaside city with its vibrant and laid back culture is the perfect destination. Long summer days spent on the pebbled beaches and the thriving music and festival scene brings many tourists and students alike during the warm months. However, with two major universities in the area, Brighton is a total student city all year-round.

Located in a beautiful Victorian building, our school is right in the heart of the city. Surrounded by quirky independent coffee shops and restaurants and only a 3-minute walk to the beach and city-centre, Oxford International Brighton offers the best combination between academic excellence and authentic home-away-from-home experience.

21ST CENTURY SKILLS - ENGLISH FOR TODAY’S WORLD

In all of our courses, we aim to empower the learner and prepare them for today’s world. When students graduate from one of our seven Oxford International schools, they are ready to use the English they have learned in their place of work or study. Classes are available in-person, online, or as a blended learning combination of the two. Our teachers are trained in methodology which builds upon the Common European Framework for Languages, and have also received training in the successful delivery of online classes.

Students establish or build on a firm foundation across all the skills, using critical thinking and a combination of modern technology and triedand-tested pedagogical practices to improve their learning experience. It is extremely important to us that students not only learn new language structures, but also use them actively in their everyday life.

Training in critical thinking allows students to develop and share their opinions, with a focus on interaction and sharing information. Students are guided in their learning to develop their productive, receptive as well as mediation skills.

• Productive skills are an indication of how much or well a student can speak or write.

• Receptive skills indicate the student’s ability to understand what they hear or read around them.

• Finally, in mediation, the student is able to transfer information (written or spoken) from one source to a recipient, to receive and respond to information, and in return act as a facilitator or intermediary. In making this last step, students are truly prepared to use their English in a meaningful way in their lives.

YOUR LEARNING BEGINS BEFORE YOU ARRIVE…

All students are enrolled onto our new Virtual Learning Campus, and receive a login to begin their journey with Oxford International. From here they can take a placement test, and access information about their school. Their profile here will hold all of their academic progress during their time at the school including test results, tutorials, self-study materials and exam preparation.

YOUR FIRST DAY AT SCHOOL

Students receive a warm welcome to their accommodation, and then on their first day at school personally meet with the Principal, Director of Studies, support staff and teachers who they will see every day. They will receive an induction to the school and tour of the local area, along with information about extra activities they can do during their time with us.

PERSONALISED STUDY PLAN

Our teachers provide constant feedback and opportunities for students to identify their own strengths and weaknesses, building their confidence to not only take advantage of the wealth of knowledge our teachers bring to the classroom, but also to be independent learners outside of the classroom. Backed by our online learning platform, which adapts to each student according to the tests and study they do, they will receive the highest level of personalised education.

PRIVATE TUTORIAL

Teachers will do regular tutorials with students. During tutorials, level aims are discussed together, and whether the student has achieved competency in each skill. This collaborative approach empowers the student to direct their own learning and keeps them on track to reach their goals. Suggestions for practice materials and self-study options are offered.

FORMAL ASSESSMENTS

Our students benefit from ongoing assessment as well as formal assessment in speaking every two weeks. There are weekly opportunities to change classes according to level to keep students moving towards their goal.

Our teachers provide excellence in level assessment and many teachers are certified IELTS examiners or work on our own English Language Level Test.

CONTINUE TO STUDY OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM

Through our extensive social programme, where students can mix with others in an informal environment and practice their language, or the study club where further teacher input can assist with studies, there are plenty of opportunities on offer to continue learning!

All students receive certificates of completion and can also choose to take a formalised English language test.

COLLABORATIVE COURSE REVIEW

Our students have the opportunity to meet with their teacher individually at least bi-weekly and review their progress and performance. As part of our premium service, all students also have the opportunity to speak with the Director of Studies when they need to.

OIEG ALUMNI

Just because a student has left our school, it does not mean their journey is over! We give students access to our Virtual Learning Campus for extra time after they finish, and they automatically become part of the Oxford International Alumni, with access to newsletters and future events. Scale of Language Proficiency and Progress

Our Scale of Language Proficiency is an accurate reference to many other popular language proficiency tests around the world.

This framework helps students understand their individual skill levels so they can effectively communicate with their teachers regarding their

learning objectives; it also guides our staff so they can help students to achieve their desired goals.

Following the Progress Chart, students can estimate the amount of time they will need to reach their goal or the progress they can expect to make during their time at Oxford International.
