About University of Dundee Our strong identity, cultural confidence and openness make Dundee an exciting place to be. It’s a great place to live, being a lively studentcentred community with plenty of things to do. The first and most important element in academic success is great teaching and support – something we take very seriously at Dundee. Our commitment to superb teaching has been recognised with a Gold Award (the highest possible rating) in the UK government’s Teaching Excellence Framework for 2017, meaning that Dundee is part of an elite group of British universities delivering outstanding teaching, learning and outcomes for students. The University has also been named among the world’s ‘most international’ universities by Times Higher Education (2016), and here you will meet students from all over the world as well as from Scotland and the UK. Conveniently, Dundee has great transport connections that make it an easy city to travel to and from. 90% of Scotland is within a 90-minute drive of Dundee, and the city’s train station has links to all major Scottish cities as well as London, Newcastle and York.

Our beautiful city Dundee has been named amongst the top 3 places to live Scotland by the Sunday Times 2020. Best Place to Live Guide. While offering the best of urban living, the city is still friendly, compact and easy to navigate. Green spaces abound, and in the last few years a new wave of restaurants, cafes and other eateries have opened, creating a vibrant food scene. You’ll love Dundee: Low cost of living A Citylets Rental Report in 2019 found that Dundee’s average cost of private rent is by far the cheapest of Scotland’s major cities.

Food & drink We have restaurants from all over the world. As well as top Indian, Italian and Chinese food, we have two sushi restaurants right next to campus.
Arts and culture We are also very proud to have been a finalist for the UK City of Culture 2017 – as well as being named the UK’s first (and only) UNESCO City of Design in 2014.
High street to boutique The Overgate and Wellgate are the city’s two big shopping centres, with many big-name shops such as Debenhams, Zara, H&M, Next, and Primark.
The major cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow are a short trip away. Scotland’s four main international airports all operate both national airlines such as British Airways, and low cost airlines. This makes it easy to get to all the major centres of the UK and Europe.
