This Yearbook features the main events organized by our Chamber during the 2019 exercise. This document testifies to our activity. This very letter of the Yearbook, that you now hold in your hands, will give you a brief account of the evolution of our association. The growth trend in which we are now engaged is notorious. The time of the forced change that, of course, allowed us to overcome the consequences of the 2008-2014 crisis, without hardly noticing its effects, remain now as a memory. Behind us, but not forgotten, are now the times when government subsidies cushioned the results and when difficulties seemed to impact on the enthusiasm of the staff and on all of us, the members. The Chamber is today a tool, I would dare to say, necessary, at the service of the Spanish business world interested in both Belgium and Luxembourg, as well as in getting closer to the European institutions. Our intense collaboration with the Spanish Embassy in Belgium is marked by very positive achievements.

This same spirit prevails in our relations with the Embassy in Luxembourg. In the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the impulse that local members are giving to the Delegation established there is remarkable. Indeed, work is underway to adopt measures to optimise the supply of services for the financial sector, in which the majority of them are involved. I am proud to confirm that we continue to be a reference in the management of European projects. I would like to express my optimism for the election of Arancha González Laya as Minister of Foreign Affairs, EU and Cooperation. Her CV seems to show an undeniable inclination towards international trade. Her vision of the importance of the action of “Economic Diplomacy” is a great asset. In order to achieve greatest effectiveness, this “force” must combine the public with the private. In the network of Official Spanish Chambers of Commerce Abroad, the Economic Diplomacy has the natural partenaire. The Official Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Belgium and Luxembourg is a non-profit association founded in 1938, according to Belgian private law (ASBL). The Chamber plays a significant role in trade and economic relations between Spain, Belgium and Luxembourg and its main objective is the development of trade and investments between these countries. The Chamber offers its member companies a wide range of services, as well as facilitating business networking between them. The Chamber is publicly recognized as one of the most prestigious dialogue tribunes between companies and European institutions, based in Brussels and Luxembourg. The Chamber is part of the Federation of Official Spanish Chambers of Commerce in Europe-Africa-Asia-Oceania (FEDECOM) and maintains a permanent contact with the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, which provides its members the ability to benefit from the Official Spanish Chambers network around the world. The Chamber is supported by the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce.

VISIBILITY AND PROMOTION The Chamber offers to members the possibility of boosting the visibility of their company through the following channels and communication tools:
►► www.e-camara.com: provides a list with the contact details of the companies in the members’ directory of the web page, one of the most visited sections.
►► Intranet side: It allows members access to promotions, offers and exclusive information, as well as promoting their product and/or service through the publication of special offers and expanding their contact network in Belgium, Luxembourg and Spain.
►► Newsletter: new members are announced in our newsletter which is sent to more than 3000 contacts twice a month in Spanish and English. Through the section “Our member’s activities”, members have at their disposal an exclusive space for the publication of news about their activity and events. The Chamber elaborates two newsletters, one for the Belgian market and another for the Luxembourg market.
►► The presence of the Chamber on the social networks Twitter (@CamaraBelux) and LinkedIn allows to spread and share information about the activities of our members.
►► Yearbook: there is a members’ directory available in the Yearbook which is distributed among our contact network in paper and digital format.
►► Mailing: the Chamber sends periodically relevant information from its member companies to the Chambers’ databases by email.
►► The Chamber of Commerce offers to its members the possibility of sponsoring and co-organizing events side by side. The aim is to provide members with the opportunity to use the Chamber as an independent platform to promote their company, attract new customers and increase their visibility.

►► Service of identification and customized alert sending in public tenders: administrative services in presenting the required documentation for Spanish companies interested in public tenders from European institutions, Belgium and Luxembourg.
►► Employment Website: The Chamber has a job portal www.empleobelux.com, which allows its members publish their job offers for free, access the database of candidates, provide relevant information about advantages and employment subsides in Belgium and Luxembourg and request free support for the preselection of employees.

COMMITTEES The Committees of the Chamber provide members a tool to defend their interests and support the activities of the Chamber. The Committees play an advisory role. They operate by thematic areas and are composed by members that share common interests in different fields of activities. At any time, a member can always request to be part of it to the Secretary General of the Chamber. They can likewise request for the creation of a new group, which will be subject to the assessment of the Board of Directors.
FORUM COMMITTEE The Forum Committee is mainly responsible for proposing, organizing and monitoring the events that the Chamber develops within the framework of the European Institutions, in line with legislative priorities of Spain and the EU. The Committee is led by Pablo López Álvarez (FTI Consulting) and it is composed mainly by Spanish companies and consultancy firms in European affairs.
FINANCIAL COMMITTEE The Committee is aiming to create in Luxembourg a forum for discussion and debate in economic and financial affairs where members companies related with the provision of financial services can share experiences, build partnerships, exchange information about the latest trends in the sector and generate business. It also aims to position itself as the main “Hispanic” interlocutor to the Luxembourg institutions in the financial sector.

The Spain Means Innovation program is an initiative of the Chamber that aims to become an independent platform to strengthen, at a local level, the commercial interests of Spanish companies in Belgium and Luxembourg. The objective of the program is to facilitate the access of Spanish companies to the market and the relevant actors in BeLux for the development of their activity, applying commercial intelligence and developing with them networks of influence and trust at all levels. The objectives for the medium term are: ►► To project an image of Spain as an innovative, modern and avant-garde country in Belgium and Luxembourg. ►► To position Spanish companies as suppliers of products and services and as strategic partners in certain sectors of activity. ►► To promote the collaboration of Spanish companies with local companies for the development of projects in BeLux. ►► To facilitate the lobbying of Spanish companies with local public institutions.
SPAIN SCIENCE DIPLOMACY INGELIA, THE SUCCESS OF A SPANISH BUSINESS MODEL IN BELGIUM BASED ON HTC TECNOLOGY In order to present a successful case in the implementation of an innovative technology made in Spain, on June 4th 2019 theChamber organized in Brussels, in collaboration with the Embassy of Spain in the Kingdom of Belgium, a conference with Marisa Hernández Latorre, founder of Ingelia and Luc Descender, representative of Renasci.

FOLKLORISSIMO FESTIVAL Spain was designated the guest of honour country in the 19th edition of the popular Folklorissimo Festival, based on the intellectual dialogue between folklore and traditions of Belgium and Spain. During the weekend of September 21st and 22nd, more than 100 artists and members of Spanish folkloric groups, as well as associations, autonomous communities and Spanish and Belgian companies, offered a wide and diverse representation of folklore, gastronomy and traditions of Spain at the Grand Place of Brussels. The Chamber collaborated with the cultural section of the Embassy of Spain in Belgium coordinating the participation of Spanish companies in this festival.

1ST EDITION - WORKSHOP OF PROFESSIONAL HAM CUTTING Brussels, 2nd December 2019
The Chamber, in collaboration with The Cortador Academy, organized the first workshop of professional ham cutting. The training was conducted under the direction of Maestro Cortador José Cristóbal Álvarez García. The course was aimed at professionals in the HORECA sector who wished to deepen their interest in the art of cutting Iberian ham. During the workshop, attendees were able to study the different types of ham and their characteristics, the regulations concerning this sector and they learned in a theoretical and practical way the main techniques to professionally cut ham starting from the outside until reaching the bone. 30
PUBLIC ADVISORY STRATEGIES AND DIALOGUE WITH THE EUROPEAN INSTITUTIONS On October 2nd and 3rd, the Official Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Belgium and Luxembourg organized in Brussels the first edition of the workshop on “Public advisory strategies and dialogue with the European institutions”, aimed exclusively at Spanish companies and associations. Fifteen Spanish enterprises and sectorial associations participated in this course, interested in learning the tools that will allow them to establish an effective dialogue with the European institutions and help them anticipate both the risks and opportunities for their companies that can be originated from the political and legislative action in Brussels. The workshop was held by prestigious professionals from multinationals, business organizations and Spanish institutions as well as by European officials.

COMMERCIAL ACTIVITIES During 2019, the Chamber developed, in collaboration with PROEXCA, a public company whose main objective is to attract strategic investment in the Canary Islands, different actions to inform Belgian companies about the investment opportunities available on the Islands. In May, a conference was organized under the title “The Canary Islands: investment destination” targeting Belgian companies in the sectors of renewable energy, ICT, BPO, audio-visual and animation. Following the success of this initiative, a reverse trade mission was organised by the end of November. Potential foreign investors were advised on tax and competitive advantages, and were also provided with the necessary information about the Canary Islands as a destination for their business.

DIRECT AND REVERSE During 2019, four direct trade missions were organized for Belgium by Spanish companies in the human resources, food, mobility and agricultural sectors and three counter-missions in the food field.

OTHER ACTIVITIES
On April 3rd 2019, a Belgian election debate “#Yes2Belgium Election Debate” was organized. This event was supported by 12 bilateral chambers of commerce in Belgium and was part of the objective to involve their member companies in the federal, regional and European elections. Ten political representatives from different Belgian organizations participated to present their visions and solutions on four topics identified as priorities for foreign companies in the country: mobility, tax system and competitivity, labour market and governance.

ASSEMBLY AND BOARDS OF DIRECTORS The General Assembly of the Chamber was held, on ordinary meeting, on June 27th 2019. During the meeting, the entity’s activity report, the list of members and the annual accounts for 2018 financial year were approved. Furthermore, the following members were appointed for the Board of Directors for a three-year term: Eva Chamizo (Iberdrola), Miguel Troncoso (Gómez-Acebo & Pombo), Joseba Arriortua, Andrea Oriol (LaLiga), Juan Rodríguez-Villa Matons (AsporParks) and Ángel Rebollo (Atrevia). The Board of Directors, executive body in charge of defining the actions and strategy of the Chamber for the fulfilment of its corporate purpose, met four times during 2019. Specifically, the meetings were held in Brussels on the 16th of April, 21st of May and 26th of September, and in Luxembourg on the 27th of November. At September’s session, Juan Rodríguez-Villa Matons and Pablo López Álvarez were re-elected as Chairman and Vice-Chairman, respectively, for a three-year term.
FEDECOM The Federation of Official Chambers of Commerce of Spain in Europe, Africa, Asia and Oceania (FEDECOM) is an international non-profit association that currently brings together the 21 Official Spanish Chambers of Commerce, recognized by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism and established in Europe, Africa, Asia and Oceania. During 2019, the chambers of Arab Emirates, Qatar and South Korea were officially recognized by this Ministry. The presidency of FEDECOM was assumed by Juan Rodríguez-Villa Matons (Belgium and Luxembourg) until March 2019. At the General Assembly in Madrid on the 26th of March, Eduardo Barrachina (United Kingdom) was appointed as the new President of FEDECOM. MEETING OF THE CAMACOES NETWORK IN MADRID On March 26th 2019, the biennial meeting of the network of Official Spanish Chambers of Commerce Abroad (CAMACOES network) took place in Madrid. The Spanish Chamber of Commerce hosted this event, in which its General Director, Inmaculada Riera, highlighted the importance of the role played by the Chambers abroad in strengthening ties, economic links and bilateral relations between Spain and the countries where they operate. In the opening of the conference, the General Secretary of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, Adolfo Díaz-Ambrona, pointed out that the aim of this meeting was to “strengthen the coordination of the network of Chambers and to share the advantages of their respective membership systems and the good practices of their activity”. MERCADONA RECEIVES THE AWARD OF FEDECOM’S COMPANY OF THE YEAR On October 7th, FEDECOM awarded MERCADONA with its Company of the Year Award in Lisbon. The award ceremony took place in the Sala do Arquivo da Câmara Municipal in Lisbon and was attended by the presidents of the main business associations in Portugal as well as the Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Spanish Embassy in Portugal, Pedro Moriyon. The award was handed by Mr. Eurico Brilhante Dias, Secretary of State for the Internationalization of Portugal, and received by Elena Aldana, Director of External Relations in Portugal and European Affairs, on behalf of MERCADONA. In July 2019 the company opened its first supermarkets in Portugal, which meant the opening of the supermarket chain abroad, its first internationalization project. The company already employs 1.100 Portuguese workers. The opening of the stores, the offices in Oporto and Lisbon, the Logistics Block in Póvoa de Varzim and the Co-innovation Centre in Matosinhos, represented a global investment of approximately 260 million euros, since it announced its entry into the Portuguese market in 2016.

For the fourth consecutive year, the Chamber acted as a local contact point in Belgium and Luxembourg for the European program Erasmus for Young Entrepreneurs. This initiative of the European Commision, which turned 10 in 2019, allows professional exchanges between entrepreneurs in Europe. NEW ENTREPRENEUR The Chamber helps future entrepreneurs who have a business plan or entrepreneurs with less than three years of experience and residents in Belgium or Luxembourg to identify experienced entrepreneurs in other countries to have an exchange. The new entrepreneur benefits from the possibility of validating and developing their business together with an experienced entrepreneur and exploring potential collaborations. In addition, during the exchange, he or she receives financial support from the European Commission.

SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURS TEAM UP THANKS TO THE ERASMUS FOR YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS
Riccardo Raffaele (Ianus Group) and André De Giorgi had an exchange in 2019 through the EYE program, and for a few months, they had the opportunity to work together in Brussels on different social projects. This exchange was an excellent opportunity for both entrepreneurs, as they were able to share their experience and explore future collaborations.
II EDITION: MATCHMAKING EVENT FOR STARTUPS AND FREELANCERS On May 8, 2019, the Chamber organized a matchmaking event for startups and freelancers. Nearly 50 participants had the opportunity to present their projects, generate new contacts and obtain information about the Erasmus program for Young Entrepreneurs.

IV EDITION - SOCIAL NETWORKING NIGHT With the aim of presenting the tools available in Belgium and Luxembourg for job search, the Chamber organized on June 13th, 2019, the fourth edition of the Social Networking Night. THE CHAMBER, NEW MEMBER OF THE EURES NETWORK IN 2019 The Chamber was selected in 2019 as a new member of the EURES network in Belgium for Brussels and Wallonia regions. HIGHLIGHTED ACTIVITIES DAY OF SPAIN IN LUXEMBOURG
On October 19th, the Official Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Belgium and Luxembourg, in collaboration with the Spanish Office of Tourism, organized the Day of Spain in Luxembourg at the Place d’Armes. Through this unprecedented day in Luxembourg, Spain was presented as a tourist destination, along with the gastronomic, cultural and business offer that surrounds it. More than 8,000 attendees enjoyed this day, which was attended by the Prime Minister of Luxembourg, Xavier Bettel, among other personalities. LuxairTours, the official sponsor of this event, as well as different destinations and companies from the tourism sector showed their services offered in Spain. Also, the Spanish sport was represented by world leading companies in football, tennis and ski. The Spanish gastronomy was the main protagonist, of an event that enjoyed also the participation of Spanish language schools and real estate companies which presented their offer in the Spanish coasts. The event was completed with a permanent cultural program which included the participation of the artist Carolina Tafalla, the urban artist Belin, the six-times Flat BMX world champion, Viki Gómez, and the shows and concerts of Vicky Villalba, La Negra Albina, Baïkonour and the DJs Alex Torres and James go.
