ISTO made a Memorandum in view of the elections in spring 2014. We want to raise awareness of the issue of social tourism among the European candidates and parties. That’s why ISTO calls on the next European Commission, the Members of the European parliament, to be elected in 2014, the European Council and Member States to consider 10 proposals in their platform for the term 2014-2020. These proposals are based on two major policy directions, namely a better recognition (through the Lisbon treaty) of the role of tourism as a strategic sector in the European economy, through which we can promote greater cooperation amongst Member States, and second, identify more accurately the European mechanisms and sources of funding, capable of supporting this cooperation at the 2014-2020 financial perspectives review.
