Every parent understands, at least to some extent, the process of human growth. From the moment of conception, God has a blueprint for every human life. He is not willing that any would yield to condemnation but that all would experience the victorious life offered by the Father that culminates in a heavenly eternity. As a father, I have a first-hand experience as provided by our two sons. While the growth process brought daily challenges it also stretched my parenting ability as maturity prevailed. Now, I often refer to my sons as “grown” but I have actually arrived at a different conclusion - that, at least in my thoughts, they are still growing. The goal is that our children will “grow up” and become “adults” no longer dependent but sufficient. We want them to be contributing members to society. Our prayer is that their future will exceed the realm of the imaginary and that their accomplishments will soar above our dreams. But – herein lies the age-old question, “to be or not to be?” The same principle applies to our Heaven Father and our relationship with Him. It is a sad day when a “believer” thinks he has arrived. I know we are to walk in maturity, I fully acknowledge that we are to no longer live in sin, I am confident that He desires his children to move from milk to a meat diet. But just because we turn “21” or arrive at a certain level of competency or achievement – let us never forget – He’s still working on us!
In the book of Romans, Paul addresses the whole world, Jew and Gentile, as under condemnation, guilty of sin and sentenced Frank and Linda Cargill to death. Then he explains our possibilities as he elaborates on justification. What a Savior – that He justifies the wicked who turn from sin. It all happens through Christ’s redemptive and propitiatory work. We are indeed justified! However, it does not stop. The third major theological concept, sanctification, is introduced in the very middle of his treatise to the church at Rome. Sanctification may be described as “ s p i r i t u a l g r o w t h , ” “the continuing work of God,” “the transformation process of the believer. ”
II Peter 3:18 – “But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” Romans 12:2 – “And be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…” What is the point? The Spirit-filled life is more than a destination – it is a process. Remember – we are not “there” yet!

NEW SECTIONAL PRESBYTER Monday, February 9, 2009, marked the organizational meeting for Section Nine North. It was an exciting time, with outstanding attendance, for the ministers and churches as a new section was celebrated. The structure of the Oklahoma District now consists of 14 sections. Darren Pilcher was selected to serve on the Oklahoma District Board as the Sectional Presbyter. Congratulations are extended to Darren and Michelle as they assume this new role of leadership. Darren and Michelle Pilcher serve as the lead pastors in Oklahoma City at Lakeside Assembly, an assignment they have filled since 2004. They are both graduates of Southwestern Assemblies of God University, where they met, and have been married for 15 years. They are the proud parents of two children – Ethan, 7 and Emma, 5. Darren was born on April 27, 1972 in Alexandria, Louisiana where his parents served as pastors and in district leadership. His family moved to Dallas when he was ten years old. Darren served on staff with his father in Texas for five years. He and Michelle became the youth pastors and then later the senior associates at Aurora First Assembly in the Denver, Colorado metro area. They served in that position for six years. The call to the senior pastorate brought them to Woodward, Oklahoma where they served First Assembly of God for two years. Darren’s discipleship materials are used nationally and also on an international level through the fellowship’s organization. He loves to read, watch football, and spend time with his family. Michelle is an effective communicator and leads ladies’ Bible studies within the church. She also loves to read and spend time with family and friends. Together they enjoy team teaching and encouraging marriages and families from all walks of life.

GROWING OR GROWN?
In Loving Memory Reverend Lonnie Houston Finney August 28, 1920 – January 30, 2009 Rev. Lonnie Houston Finney, age 88, resident of Lake Village Nursing Home, Lewisville, TX went to be with the Lord on January 30, 2009. He was born on August 28, 1920 in Wetumka, Hughes County, Oklahoma to Lily Mae Crabtree and James Edward Finney. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Melba “Skeet’ Finney and a brother Ray Allen Finney. He is survived by a sister, Rev. Walsa Mae Foxx and husband, Tony of Berry Hill, OK, brothers, Lance Carl Finney of Auburndale, Florida, Lowell Dean Finney of Sand Springs Oklahoma and a son, Rev. Larry H. Finney and wife Cheryl who reside in Double Oak, TX, a daughter Sharon and her husband, Jim Knightstep,
who reside in Lewisville, TX and Delores “Skip” Finney of Anna, TX. Rev. Finney has 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Brother Finney’s faith in his God, his children and his country will be forever remembered. He promised the Lord while lying in a foxhole in Germany during WWII that if He would get him back on American soil, he would serve him the rest of his life. And this he did— upon return he gave his life to the Lord in one of his sister’s revivals. He started studying soon thereafter and has been an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God for over 55 years. He loved to preach more than anything and never lost his zeal for the Lord. He pastored
churches both in Oklahoma and Texas and loved building programs. He was good with a hammer and loved building a church and filling it up! He ministered too many in the nursing home where he had resided for five years and was continuously encouraging his children and grandchildren to serve the Lord. A celebration of his life was held February 3rd at Grace Community Church of Flower Mound with internment at Denison, TX.
Reverend Ronald G. Allen March 19, 1941 – March 6, 2009 Rev. Ronald G. Allen of Afton, Oklahoma went to be with the Lord Friday March 6, 2009. He was 67. He was born March 19, 1941 in Chickasha, Oklahoma to Lon and Mary (Lantz) Allen. Rev. Allen was a graduate of Capitol Hill High School in Oklahoma City. He was united in marriage to Christene Morgan July 26, 1961 in Oklahoma City. He had worked as a postal route carrier before entering the ministry. He started out as a C.A. Leader and went on to complete 28 years of full time ministry. He served as a bi-vocational
pastor/youth director/children’s pastor/etc. He loved the Assemblies of God. He received his exhorter’s permit in 1965, his license to preach in 1966, and was ordained in 1968. He served several years in the areas of youth and Christian Education. He pastured 12 churches in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Georgia, and Louisiana. He was currently pastoring First Assembly of God in Afton, Having taken the position in May, 2008. He is survived by his Wife, Christene of the home.One son, Terry and wife Samalee of Lebanon, Tenn. One daughter, Renea Elmore of
Oklahoma City, Three Brothers, Tony Allen and wife Sue, Larry Allen and wife Angie, Duane Allen and wife Glenda all of Oklahoma City, Two Grandchildren, Krystle Elmore of Oklahoma City, and Jonathon Dane Allen of Lebanon, Tenn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lon and Mary Allen, and one brother Reford Allen.
Reverend William Carl Comstock June 22, 1932 – March 11, 2009 William Carl Comstock was born in El Reno, Oklahoma on Wednesday, June 22, 1932 to Walter and Gladys Comstock. Rev.Comstock was a member of the New Life Assembly of God in Calera, Oklahoma. Former pastor of Calvary Assembly of God in Durant, Oklahoma. Bill loved playing gospel music on his steel guitar and regular guitar. He spent forty five years in the ministry and forty two years as a newspaper pressman. His Survivors Include: Wife: Margaret Comstock of Calera, Oklahoma Sons, Rev. Roger Comstock and wife Kathy of Arapaho, Oklahoma. Rev. Jimmy C. Comstock and wife Deborah of Port Clinton, Ohio, Howard Comstock and wife Stacy of Princeton,

Every Church, Supporting Every Missionary, Going Everywhere, and Reaching Everyone
HOW ARE WE DOING? With the state of the economy crumbling around Lindell Warren us how are we doing in missions? Not bad!! However, we can always do better. Some of our missionaries are struggling, while most are successfully reaching budget. As the Holy Spirit continues to serve as our Personnel Manager, I never cease to be amazed at the quality of workers coming our way. Oh yes, we must strategize and fill key positions, but ultimately the Holy Spirit calls and leads workers to their most effective niche of ministry. We do not recruit missionaries, we pray for workers. Our personnel numbers keep edging higher even with attrition. With this growth in numbers comes more responsibility and financial liability. Budgets keep going up, ministry demands increase, and the missionary begins to feel if he or she ever slows down the lack of centrifugal force will cause them to fall flat. Cash offerings have never been better for our missionaries, while monthly support is increasingly more difficult to raise. Booking and conducting 12 services a month for our itinerating missionaries is next to impossible. Going to the 10-minute window on Sunday
mornings is becoming the norm in many churches. How do we adequately fund the ever growing missionary force? I must conclude that an ANNUAL MISSIONS CONVENTION IS STILL THE BEST WAY TO RAISE MONTHLY SUPPORT FOR OUR MISSIONARIES. People will make a faith promise for one year, but they certainly don’t want to commit into infinity. Some churches will incorporate a cash project into the convention. That’s ok, but I have learned that cash projects usually take care of themselves. What we need is monthly support for the flesh and blood workers. To keep growing, we cannot keep doing things the same. Receiving the missions offering in Sunday School disallows a large group in most churches from giving to missions. Only giving a missionary a set honorariums stymies the faith of the church’s people. Allow the Holy Spirit to move and everyone to be challenged. Believe me, we preachers are not the only ones receiving appeal letters in the mail. If we don’t direct our people’s giving, they will give to other organizations. With all the new missionaries on the field and others going, we face a unique challenge. The new missionaries, both MIT’s and full-fledged, go out the first time for three years instead of four. I like that, however they leave the first time with a reduced budget. Consequently, upon their return after three years, their budget is increased astronomically. In fact, some budgets double between first and second term. The returning first-termer has lost his or her candidate status, at least perceptually, and does not have that advantage. We are not doing bad; however we could do better. God has given us wonderful missionaries and pastors to partner with. Together, we are making a difference in our world. May we be found ever growing in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

is just around the corner. If you have not started preparing for this ministry there is still time. This ministry is so important in the preparation of children for ministry. Although competition is involved it is more of a fun approach to ministry. Fun Arts provide the means for those who are talented and those who are not so talented the opportunity to share their gifts. If you have questions please contact the District CE office for more assistance. It is so extremely important to teach children about missions. If we do not educate them in this area of ministry where will we be in a few years? This is why every church should be involved

The national BGMC office provides many helps in the way of training material, promotional material, and other assistance to make this an easy task. When children get excited about this ministry there will not only be great assistance given to the church, but the missionaries will receive assistance as well. With BGMC you just can’t go wrong. BGMC has launched a new web site for kids. This new web site includes mission stories, devotions, and other information to help children understand missions and to do so in a fun way. how important is it. We all know that discipling people is extremely important yet how we disciple is the choice of the local church. The unique thing is that we have some of our churches that are having Sunday school in the traditional setting and we have some that are meeting needs in completely different ways. I encourage you to do what you feel will best meet the needs of your people. We must be sensitive to people and their needs and strive to meet those needs. In order to be effective at Christian discipleship, you have to listen. Remember that listening is an active verb ... a very active verb, and it takes both effort and practice. You need to listen both to the person you are discipling, and to God. Four things that you should remember in the listening process and remember that listening is the key if you are going to minister to the needs of others. Do not be guilty of thinking of what you are going to say while others are talking, do not be distracted by things around you, and do not give the impression of not being interested in what individuals are wanting to say.
Listen to what is said Words spoken off times give insight to the need that may be represented
Listen for principles What is the motivation of behind the conversation and are there any underlying issues that may need to be addressed
Listen to stories and tangents Sometimes when a story is told or a tangent expressed there may be a hint to the need
Listen to what is not said Sometimes words not spoken is the most important listen to what the Spirit may be saying

We have many colleges and universities in Oklahoma. If there is a college in your community, then you know there will be an influx of new students each semester. Sadly, an alarming number of high school graduates will drop out of church while in college. But by simply offering godly adult friendships, lives can be eternally impacted. Oklahoma Chi Alpha and the Oklahoma Women’s Department are teaming up to reach college students for the Lord. We are looking for “Mama Bears” (women’s groups) who will adopt a campus or XA students with a semesterlong commitment to get involve in the spiritual lives of students. How can you do this? Well, every collegian needs a H.U.G.G.
This would be a great community outreach for Linda Stamps-Dissmore women in your church who are interested in making a difference in a student’s life. They could invite one or two students into their homes several times a month. Offer home-cooked meals, a place to do laundry, some good fellowship, or simply a short refuge from dorm life. If women in your church would be interested in adopting a campus or XA students, Greg and Susan Tiffany, XA State Coordinators, would love to hear from you. New Women’s Sectional Reps I am very thankful for the women in Oklahoma who are willing to serve their sections as women’s reps. With the division of sections 5 and 9, we have added two new reps.: Betty Calabrese will be serving section 5 West. Kay Couch will continue to serve 5 East. Maria Allen is the rep for 9 North Janice Perryman will continue to serve 9 South. Loraine Jenkins who faithfully served section 8 for two years has moved out of the section.
