Thanks For The Memories

Linda and I along with Tony, our three year old son, walked on Turner Falls Youth Campgrounds and directed our first summer of Youth Camps during the BiCentennial Year of 1976. During the Fall of that year, our second son, Andrew, was born. For eight summers we were able to connect with thousands of campers and counselors during some of the best days of our lives. I still recall the feeling of anxiety as I stepped into my first District Presbytery meeting during July 1976. I was 26 and by far the youngest person in the room. As I took a seat as one of the 20 individuals that composed the Presbytery at that time. Little did I know the plans that God had ahead for my life. All 19 other members of that Presbytery have already deceased and have received their eternal life as they heard the words, “Welcome home – well done!” During the 1983 District Council, Linda and I were elected to serve as Assistant District Superintendent. I suspect that

very few were really aware that I was only 34 when I was honored to walk alongside so many wonderful men of God as I became a member of the General Council Presbytery and joined the Board of Regents of Southwestern Assemblies of God College. Some of the little known facts (and probably significant only to me) would be that I have attended approximately 500 Sectional Councils and an equal number of Sectional Fall Ministers’ Institutes, School of Ministries, and Tours. Linda has been by my side throughout the years as we have traveled hundreds of thousands of highway miles without an automobile accident. God has been so gracious to us! He has gone before and covered us from behind. I owe a tremendous debt to Linda! She has supported me throughout 50 years of marriage as well as the same number of years of ministry. We were united in marriage on August 14, 1970 in Stillwater, OK at Calvary Assembly of God. I’m sure

that for her, it seems like we have been in church every day since. She has blessed me with two wonderful sons; walked faithfully by my side as pastor’s wife at Okemah, Elk City First Assembly, and Oklahoma City Capitol Hill. Beginning with our 6th wedding anniversary, we have celebrated every anniversary since while serving in an official position with the Oklahoma District. Thank you, Sweetheart! YOU ARE THE BEST AND THE LOVE OF MY LIFE! We have many more memories, and we are excited about the future. God has already placed His anointing on the next District Superintendent. I have been praying for this upcoming District Council and confident of this one fact – the greatest days for the Assemblies of God of Oklahoma are YET TO COME! Honored to Serve, Frank and Linda Cargill, Pastors Oklahoma Assemblies of God Ministries

Document Retention Most churches have one. It is locked up tight. No one knows what is in there. If it exists, the key is buried in a desk drawer with a multitude of other keys, all of which seemingly have no purpose. To what am I referring? The records closet. It is stacked with random bank boxes, moving boxes of all sizes, grocery bags, and random paper stacks.

Licenses and permits

Insurance Policies

Property Deeds, Assessments, Licenses, Right of Ways, Correspondence

Tax-Exemption Documents

You know there are important papers inside. Papers that need to be retained. You also know there are things that no longer need to be retained. Items that can be destroyed. How to tackle organizing this material is a subject for another day. However, when you do decide to take on this beast, there are some guidelines you should follow. Much of this material is important for both legal and historical reasons.

IRS Rulings (if any)

Contribution Records

Documentation showing terms, conditions, or restrictions on gifts.

Below is a list put together by the Evangelical Council of Financial Accountability (ECFA) that can be used as a guideline when sorting out what needs to stay and for how long and what can be destroyed. For simplicity, I will break it down into two lists; items that should be kept permanently and items which should be kept for at least seven years. If you would like to download a full sample policy covering many other important records to consider, you can find it by going to www.ecfa.church. Create a free account with the “Church Excel” program. Search for “Document Retention and Destruction Sample Policy for Churches.”

Six Keys to Pastoral

Health During Challenging Seasons

Seasonal changes that happen in Oklahoma often come with dramatic events and challenging affects. The changing seasons bring storms, drastic temperature variations, and heightened allergy symptoms. In addition to the changes in the environmental seasons we face, all of us as ministers of the gospel face different seasons. Sometimes a new season brings great success and at other times, difficulty is pervasive. As ministers, we are not immune to the effects of the changing seasons that we go through, we have the responsibility to be a good steward of the God-given life we have been entrusted with. How do pastors stay spiritually, emotionally, and physically healthy during the challenging seasons we face? 1. KNOW YOUR SOURCE Before we were called into the ministry, we were a child of God. The foundational element of our lives must be maintaining our walk with the Lord. Positions, people, and places are always in transition, but your relationship with God must be the stabilizing key to staying healthy. We will never find ourselves lacking when we let God be our primary source of renewal, strength, and wisdom. 2. STRENGTHEN RELATIONSHIPS We are created for a community in which we share our burdens with one another. Through this we not only have the opportunity to intercede for one another, but feel supported and loved. As you intentionally strengthen and build healthy relationships with family and friends, you will find people who are willing to help. Do not do ministry in isolation, eventually the cost becomes too great and burnout is inevitable.

3. LEARN TO SAY NO One of the challenges of ministry is that we are often pulled in many different directions in our daily life. Not only do we feel the weight of our primary responsibilities, but we feel the pressure placed on us to do and be everything that is expected of us. After all, we are supposed to be ready to preach, pray, respond, reach out, connect, and die. Yet, we must be willing to say no to things that are not necessarily the most important to our ministry work. Sacrifice the things that are good, but are a distraction from the things that we are called to do! 4. FIGHT THE TEMPTATION TO COMPARE My grandfather would say, “be faithful to work your corner of the vineyard that God has given to you.” This was a reminder that God is the one who not only owns the entire vineyard, but has also entrusted to me a portion to be a good steward of. It also reminded me that if we are busy working our area, then we will not have the time or need to compare what others are responsible for. Additionally, I will not have time to boast about the size of my portion if I am focused on the harvest. 5. TAKE A SABBATH REST We have heard on many occasions that taking a day for rest is of utmost importance. In spite of the frequent reminders, we often find ourselves constantly working without rest because of the pressures we put on ourselves as ministers. However, we must remember that the church is not ours and Jesus said that He would be an active agent in building the church. We must work hard, but put as much effort into finding and guarding times of rest. The pattern that God established of working to rest and resting to work is healthy. While we rest, God is still working! Trust him!

6. FIND A HOBBY AND GET ACTIVE It is interesting to note that our spirit, will, mind, emotions, and physical body are all connected together. When we are out of balance in one area, it will affect every other aspect of our lives. Finding a hobby and/or getting active is a great way to reset every aspect of our lives. Finding joy outside of the pressures of ministry is an important part of staying healthy in the ministry. Additionally, taking care of yourself will only enhance your effectiveness in ministry. As ministers we have been called to serve God and to serve people of whom He has entrusted us. The pressures of the challenging seasons that we face can be overwhelming, but God has given us the tools to stay healthy through Him. When we strategically develop health through every aspect of our lives, we can face the challenging seasons with greater strength and effectiveness. We are praying for each of you during the changing seasons in your ministry and life. May God give you wisdom to stay healthy and face the challenges that come with strength and endurance. We believe that God is going to powerfully work through each of you. The Best Is Yet To Come!! Blessings, Chad and Nyree

Save One Roundtable

PASTORS WE INVITE YOU TO COME AND BE A PART OF OUR ABORTION RECOVERY MINISTRY ROUNDTABLES WITH SAVE ONE! Abortion is the leading cause of death worldwide – killing MORE than 42.6 million babies in 2020 alone—higher than AIDS, Cancer, Malaria and others COMBINED according to a report released by Worldometers based on World Health Organization statistics as of December 31, 2020. www.worldometers.info With WELL over 60 million abortions having taken place in America alone, since the passage of Roe v. Wade in 1973, we know that one out of every three women of childbearing age have experienced abortion. These statistics do not magically stop at the church door. The men, women and family members hurting inside our churches are just as prevalent inside our doors, as outside of them. The local church should be the first place, people turn to for help, NOT the LAST.

Thank You for Supporting

Speed the Light It seems like every time I write an article my opening statement is “Wow! What a year!” To say that about 2020 would be an understatement! Let me share with you a memory. In 2019, I had just completed my first Speed the Light sectional tour and had returned back to the office. I shared with Brother Cargill how the tour went and updated him on our giving pledges. He listened to what I had to say and followed up with “Heath, we need Speed the Light” and in that moment I began to fully realize the importance of Speed the Light. In 2020, the students in Oklahoma helped build a water well in Africa, provided support to rescue trafficking victims through FREE International and served communities in need through Convoy of Hope, as well as continuing to support our Oklahoma missionaries. Today I want to take the time to express my gratitude for all of our churches who decided, that even in the midst of a pandemic, they would be faithful in their giving to Speed the Light.

Here are the churches who gave $1,000 or more: • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •

Thank you all for your generosity! Today I want to challenge all of churches and youth ministries with a “floor goal” of $1,000. What I mean by “floor goal” is let that be the foundation not the ceiling... if you believe you can do more, then, of course , do more! Again, because of your faithful giving we have a list of projects that we are able to pay for and I would love to start a brand new list for 2021. “We over Me” is the vision we have for everything that we do for OYM. Let’s continue working together and do more for our missionaries and our world through the life changing ministry of Speed The Light. I’m excited for the future Oklahoma! It’s an honor be called your DYD. Heath

Happy New Year! Is it me or does it seem that as we grow older, time speeds up? Here we are at another New Year. I can remember as a kid, it seemed like a million days between the first day of school and Christmas break. Forget about the time between coming back from Christmas and the rest of the school year. It might as well have been an eternity.

pack this stuff up?” I feel that way every summer about Kids Camp as well. As soon as we dismiss the last camp of the summer, Joy and I almost immediately start planning and putting a plan of action for the next camp season. They say that time marches on, but with every year that passes, the drum section seems to be speeding up the tempo.

This past December, as we were putting up Christmas decorations, I thought to myself several times, “Didn’t we just

In Memory Clyde J. Headley

James A. Wiles

12/11/1929–2/4/2021

5/12/1927–2/22/2021

Reverend Clyde Headley, 91, passed away Thursday, February 4, 2021 in Duncan, OK. Clyde Headley was born in Billings, OK on December 11, 1929 and passed from this life to receive his Heavenly reward February 4, 2021.

Reverend James A. Wiles left his earthly body for his eternal home on February 22, 2021. James “Andy” Wiles was born in Quinton, OK, on May 12, 1927, to Louie G. and Ruby Wiles and was the third of 10 children.

Clyde spent his childhood years in Walters, OK before joining the Circus at the age of 13. Clyde joined the Army January 15th, 1947, attended Baker school, then as a Staff Sergeant served at Fort Hood and Ohmea, Japan until 1950. Clyde and Javan Bratcher were married in Henrietta, Texas, January 02, 1950. They were blessed with four children; Ronnie, Judy, Aquila, and Rodney.

He grew up in Polk County, Arkansas, before joining the Army Air Force at the beginning of what became a 21-year career in the military. He served his country during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam war. His military service took him to Greenland, Japan, the Philippine Islands, and to multiple US locations.

Clyde worked for Halliburton in Duncan as a welder. While raising the family in Rush Springs, they were members of First Assembly of God. Clyde served as a Sunday School teacher, youth director, and as a church secretary for several years. Clyde became Licensed with the Assemblies Of God, and served as pastor of Pearl Assembly of God from 1975-1984. Then in 1992 he became the Senior Adult Pastor at Bethel Assembly in Duncan until 2003. Clyde will be remembered for his deep love and devotion to God, God’s Word, and his love for others around him. He was a devoted husband, affectionate dad, granddad and great granddad; a loyal friend to many.

After the military, “Brother Wiles” continued his life of service, serving as Pastor of Assemblies of God churches in Arkansas and Texas before retiring in 1998 to move with Juanita to Tulsa to be closer to their daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. Even in his final years, James continued to serve and minister to people, conducting worship services in the facility where he and Juanita lived. He liked people, and they liked him back. He was the best storyteller ever, and the memories of those cherished stories comfort his grandchildren and children. He loved learning and enjoyed conversation on almost any topic with friends, family, or strangers. He lived his faith, loved his family, and always kept a positive outlook.
