Time for a Check Up Every person is encouraged to have an annual check-up for medical purposes. There are times we “discover” trends that cause concern; however, sometimes we leave the doctor’s office with a smile. Every automobile needs periodic maintenance and sometimes even major repairs. Ignoring a red light on the dashboard is one of the most irresponsible things a driver can do. However, have you recently checked the dashboard in front of your personal life? How many “red lights” or “warnings” are flashing? There are far too many ministers that fail to heed the obvious signs and the results become disastrous. Often, they are not taken seriously, until it is too late and require a miracle for correction. There are major areas that must continuously be monitored. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
Spiritual Emotional Relational Physical Directional
The marks of spiritual decline are so subtle that they, as in the story of Samson, are never obvious until it is too late. Preachers can be guilty of “failing to live what we preach”. Never realizing that His presence has departed until we fall on our face and cry out to God, “Sovereign Lord, remember me. Please, God, strengthen me just once more…” God did answer, but Samson lost everything! Within every individual there is a continual war raging inside. The writer of Romans said, “So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me.” Make no mistake, we are all subject to an attacker that desires to destroy each of us. “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour.”
I would remind you of that old adage, “Your actions speak so loudly that we cannot hear what you are saying.” Far too many are never able to “see themselves” as “others” see them. Relationships are destroyed, when our attention is directed toward ourselves rather than focused outwardly. Homes are broken; families are shattered; churches split; and we become nothing more than a “tinkling cymbal.” Often times the physical warnings are more easily discerned, especially, if one pays attention to your own body and if one practices some type of annual physical with a doctor. Do not neglect to heed the weakness of an earthly body that is constantly in the process of decay. Our eternal life will not be enjoyed in this terrestrial flesh, but in His celestial transformation. From birth, most people are surrounded by others that motivate, encourage, and coach us to become everything we can be (and sometimes – more than we can accomplish). When I travel, I have become increasingly dependent on GPS and following the directions that come from a computer. Unfortunately, our goals and aspirations do not have such a device. We must rely on the Holy Spirit and know that He desires to order our steps. “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Pay attention to your dashboard! Pay attention to the dashboard attached to the church and/or the ministry you lead! That is a subject for another day. For assistance contact Chad Brodrick, OKAG Church Ministries Director, and inquire about the opportunity to participate in the Healthy Church Initiative. Your people will THANK YOU for it!
2021 Sectional Councils Linda and I are excited about sharing fellowship with our friends and family across Oklahoma during our approaching Sectional Councils! YES – WE ARE FULL SPEED AHEAD WITH FACE-TO-FACE SECTIONAL COUNCILS! Every minister in Oklahoma resides close enough to one of our Sectional Councils that attendance is feasible. WE NEED ONE ANOTHER NOW MORE THAN EVER BEFORE. I would encourage every credentialed minister to make plans now to attend at least one of these meetings that begin February 15 and continue thru March 2. It would be preferable to attend “your” Sectional Council; however, if that date or time conflicts with your calendar, choose another meeting NOW and reserve the location and time. Sectional Councils are designed as a time of inspiration. WE ARE BETTER TOGETHER! Don’t miss the few hours set aside for fellowship and renewal as all of our days are numbered and time waits for no one! Whether you are a pastor, staff member, missionary, evangelist, volunteer, or even a newly credentialed minister, make attending Sectional Council a priority. Several members of your OKAG Team will be in each Sectional Council. You will benefit from spending time with them and allowing us to share ministry loads together. In addition, each meeting that is scheduled during the morning will include a business meeting specifically for the election of your Sectional Presbyter. NEW THIS YEAR – we have scheduled three evening meetings in which two sections will be combined. This promises to be an opportunity to enlarge your circle of friends and offer synergy and opportunities for 2021. I have a message from my heart that I will be preaching in the night sessions. BELIEVE GOD FOR GREATER DAYS AHEAD!

Document Retention Most churches have one. It is locked up tight. No one knows what is in there. If it exists, the key is buried in a desk drawer with a multitude of other keys, all of which seemingly have no purpose. To what am I referring? The records closet. It is stacked with random bank boxes, moving boxes of all sizes, grocery bags, and random paper stacks.
•
Licenses and permits
•
Insurance Policies
•
Property Deeds, Assessments, Licenses, Right of Ways, Correspondence
•
Tax-Exemption Documents
You know there are important papers inside. Papers that need to be retained. You also know there are things that no longer need to be retained. Items that can be destroyed. How to tackle organizing this material is a subject for another day. However, when you do decide to take on this beast, there are some guidelines you should follow. Much of this material is important for both legal and historical reasons.
•
IRS Rulings (if any)
•
Contribution Records
•
Documentation showing terms, conditions, or restrictions on gifts.
Below is a list put together by the Evangelical Council of Financial Accountability (ECFA) that can be used as a guideline when sorting out what needs to stay and for how long and what can be destroyed. For simplicity, I will break it down into two lists; items that should be kept permanently and items which should be kept for at least seven years. If you would like to download a full sample policy covering many other important records to consider, you can find it by going to www.ecfa.church. Create a free account with the “Church Excel” program. Search for “Document Retention and Destruction Sample Policy for Churches.”

Opportunity
The
of a Season
Each year we are reminded of the cycle of seasons that we all experience in this life. Winter, spring, summer and fall comes with its own unique characteristics and challenges. Each has it’s purpose which God has designed into this process called life. When I consider the different seasons of life that I have experienced, I am reminded that there must be an eternal purpose that God has planned well in advance. After all, the experiences of this life have been designed by God to bring about eternal realities!
How we handle the crisis moments of 2020 and beyond becomes the determining factor in the harvest that we reap in the future. I have often thought about the season that we came through in the year 2020 and the affect that it has had on all of us. While each of us have been affected in one way or another, the Church has faced challenges that we have not seen in our lifetimes. Yet through it all, I have to wonder about the purposes that God has intended for the Church during this season He has brought us through.
Was it a season of challenge? Yes. What it a season of difficulty? Yes. Was it a season of opportunity? Yes! I have to believe that God has given us an opportunity in 2020 to find out what He was doing and find out how to be a part of it. In His providence, he has entrusted us with the mission of sharing the Good News of Jesus with the world around us. With the seeds that we plant in 2020, there will be a harvest in 2021. What kind of seeds are we planting? Jesus said: “For it will be like a man going on a journey, who called his servants and entrusted to them his property. To one he gave five talents, to another two, to another one, to each according to his ability. Then he went away. Matthew 25:14–15 (ESV) Jesus gave us the most important mission that we have on this earth. A mission that can only be fulfilled by us during the span of our lifetimes. It is a mission that supersedes the crisis moments, the cultural challenges, and the political atmosphere that happens around us. How we handle the crisis moments of 2020 and beyond becomes the determining factor in the harvest that we reap in the future. Jesus reminded us in the parable of the talents that He entrusted us with responsibility to identify the opportunity to plant the seeds that will bring about an eternal result. If we are going to be the light of the world, then we must be carriers of the pure transformational message of the Gospel to a lost world!
May we never put ourselves in a position to echo the word of John Greenleaf Whittier in the poem Maud Muller, which says, “For all sad words of tongue or pen, the saddest are these: ‘It might have been!’” Father, may we stay true to the mission by planting seeds of hope in every person that we have an opportunity to speak in to. May we see a renewal of your church and a harvest of souls in 2021! Blessings, Chad and Nyree Brodrick

Thank You for Supporting
Speed the Light It seems like every time I write an article my opening statement is “Wow! What a year!” To say that about 2020 would be an understatement! Let me share with you a memory. In 2019, I had just completed my first Speed the Light sectional tour and had returned back to the office. I shared with Brother Cargill how the tour went and updated him on our giving pledges. He listened to what I had to say and followed up with “Heath, we need Speed the Light” and in that moment I began to fully realize the importance of Speed the Light. In 2020, the students in Oklahoma helped build a water well in Africa, provided support to rescue trafficking victims through FREE International and served communities in need through Convoy of Hope, as well as continuing to support our Oklahoma missionaries. Today I want to take the time to express my gratitude for all of our churches who decided, that even in the midst of a pandemic, they would be faithful in their giving to Speed the Light.

Thank you all for your generosity! Today I want to challenge all of churches and youth ministries with a “floor goal” of $1,000. What I mean by “floor goal” is let that be the foundation not the ceiling... if you believe you can do more, then, of course , do more! Again, because of your faithful giving we have a list of projects that we are able to pay for and I would love to start a brand new list for 2021. “We over Me” is the vision we have for everything that we do for OYM. Let’s continue working together and do more for our missionaries and our world through the life changing ministry of Speed The Light. I’m excited for the future Oklahoma! It’s an honor be called your DYD. Heath Corrales

Happy New Year! Is it me or does it seem that as we grow older, time speeds up? Here we are at another New Year. I can remember as a kid, it seemed like a million days between the first day of school and Christmas break. Forget about the time between coming back from Christmas and the rest of the school year. It might as well have been an eternity.
pack this stuff up?” I feel that way every summer about Kids Camp as well. As soon as we dismiss the last camp of the summer, Joy and I almost immediately start planning and putting a plan of action for the next camp season. They say that time marches on, but with every year that passes, the drum section seems to be speeding up the tempo.
This past December, as we were putting up Christmas decorations, I thought to myself several times, “Didn’t we just

In Memory Charles L. Ogden
12/21/1933–12/27/2020 Reverend Charles Lloyd Ogdon, of Muldrow, OK was born on December 21, 1933 in Hanson Community to Jesse Pauline (Owens) Ogdon and Arvel Ogdon. He was married to Naomi Marie (Bagley) Ogdon on December 20, 1952 in Fort Smith, AR. She preceded him in death on February 28, 2020. Charles passed away in his home on December 27, 2020 and met Naomi, his helpmate and partner in ministry, on the ‘west side of Hallelujah Square.’ Reverend Ogdon was an evangelist, pastor, and minister in the fellowship of the Assemblies of God.
John Elton Gibson
11/20/1933–12/30/2020 Reverend John Elton Gibson, one of nine children of Beulah (Thompson) and Walter W. Gibson, was born in Glover, OK on November 20, 1933. He went to his heavenly home on December 30, 2020 surrounded by his loving family. Elton grew up in Glover. He worked as a young man alongside his dad and brother in the logging woods and later worked for Dierks Lumber Mill in Wright City. The Lord called him into the ministry where he pastored Green’s Chapel Assembly of God for 15 years and later pastored Glover Assembly of God. Elton retired as a self-employed log truck owner/operator in 2004. Family was very important to him as was his love for horses. Elton was known to the truckers as “Horsetrader” and he lived up to his name. He enjoyed buying and trading horses. You could say he was a “truck-driving, horse-trading, preacher-man”. His favorite part of life was being “PawPaw” to his grands and great-grands. He will be greatly missed. He loved the Lord and is now at rest with our Father in Heaven. Elton married Vallie Mae Wolfe on October 16, 1954 in Turkey, TX and they shared 66 years together, their marriage was blessed with two children, Melvin and Judy.
Charles “Edd” Richards 3/17/1936–12/31/2020
Reverend Charles Edward “Edd” Richards was born on March 17, 1936 at his home in Owasso, OK to Fred Richards and Mary Ann (Courtney). He died on Thursday, December 31, 2020 in Tulsa, OK at the age of 84 years. He was raised and educated in Owasso and graduated with the Owasso High School Class of 1954. Edd then attended classes at the University of Tulsa where he studied religious seminaries. He was married on January 18, 1954, OK to Ruby Francis (Miller) Richards. Edd was ordained with the Assemblies of God and was a longtime member of the Assembly of God church in Owasso. He had most recently been attending Eastland Assembly of God in Tulsa. He enjoyed public speaking and was a member of Toast Masters. In his spare time Edd enjoyed farming and graphic design, but most of all he loved people and never met a stranger.
Charles F. Capps
9/3/1928–1/2/2021 Charles F. Capps, 92, went to his Heavenly home on Saturday, January 2, 2021. He was born September 3, 1928 in Muskogee, OK to Levi and Sleethea Capps. He married Blanch L. Hughart on May 6, 1947 in Muskogee, OK. They shared 66 years together before Blanch passed away on December 9, 2013. Charles served in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1948 under Admiral Byrd in Operation High Jump in Antarctica on the USS Olympus. In 1957, he gave his life to Jesus, which began a 62 year ministry with the Assemblies of God. Charles and Blanch pastored numerous churches and through their ministry many lives were changed by the saving grace of Jesus Christ. On March 18, 2017, Charles married Debbie Greer. They made their home in Wagoner and attended Christian Chapel. The joy of life was his family. He loved to play dominoes, eat home cooked meals, fish, and just be outside in the fresh air.
Charity C. Harris
11/1/1926–1/8/2021 Reverend Charity Cecil Harris joined his wife, Ruth, entering fully into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Friday, January 8, 2021, at the age of 94 years. The youngest child of Thomas Cleveland Harris and Eula Nancy (Kraft) Harris was born November 1, 1926, in Murfreesboro, TN. The family moved to Walters, OK, where Charity would walk miles to catch the school bus. Charity lied about his age, and at the age of 16 entered the Merchant Marines during World War II and was at the Battle of Okinawa. After the war, Charity was saved and continued his education at Southwestern Assemblies of God Bible School in Waxahachie, TX. While serving as a youth pastor, he married the love of his life, Enola “Ruth” Hemphill, in Skellytown, TX. Together they served the Lord, and preached the Word throughout the United States and Africa. Charity and Ruth were called to build churches and pastor congregations in Suggs, Valiant, and Walters, OK. They also led pioneering missionary and evangelist efforts in Africa. They were called to serve in Tanzania, with their three children. Charity and Ruth served in Malawi, South Africa, Niger and Botswana. While serving in Malawi, Charity became sick and came back to the United States where he pastored the First Assembly of God in Sand Springs from 1964-68, churches in Denver, CO, and Angus Valley in Sand Springs. He would speak in any church he was asked to come to, no matter the size. They would later serve with his missionary nieces and nephews by building over 300 tabernacle churches throughout Niger, and radio stations including one in Burkina Faso. In his mid-eighties when he could no longer travel, Charity, was led to build Happy Acres Cowboy Church and Crossbar Arena in Mounds with Dr. Michael McGee. Charity served as the Senior Pastor, while Dr. McGee served as Associate Pastor. He preached for over 70 years.
