The practice of investing has always been a challenge! Guidelines and policies for investment strategy seem to always be undergoing review and revision. Perhaps, no time has witnessed such turmoil as America has seen in recent years. Does anyone have the answer? Professionals tend to have conflicting reports. While one says follow this plan another claims to have the answer that leads in the opposite direction. While most only wish to speak of long term results – the short term realities have been met with disappointment.
I HAVE THE ANSWER! The primary investment strategy for eternal dividends must be made in future generations – specifically, the students of today! God has given only a measure of time to each person. Far too quickly, time fades and good intentions diminish into obscurity. Without a strategic plan that is guided by an intentional, visional philosophy, the Pentecostal distinctive is only a generation away from extinction. The youth of today are worthy and deserving of investment! Recently, most churches celebrated a climactic moment for high school seniors as well as their families.
Relatives from near and far appeared from out of sight to offer congratulations as well as gifts. One of their own had Frank and Linda Cargill “made” it! Yet we all know that for those students – it was not the end but only the beginning. We must continue to invest! Have you followed up on each graduate? Do you know their plans and their goals? If they have already enrolled in higher education, have you assisted them with plugging into a local church? Have you forwarded contact information to pastors and churches within the immediate area of their new “college” home? That would include students enrolling at Waxahachie, Texas as well as Springfield, Missouri. Let’s not loose them during transition! If they have plans of attending a public university, have you connected them with Chi Alpha? Have you connected them with a local church? Have you forwarded their name and contact information to Greg Tiffany, our Oklahoma Chi Alpha Director? I would also ask that we invest in high school juniors and sophomores. Most of them already have thoughts as to the future. We have some of the finest institutions in America that are endorsed by the Assemblies of God. Promote our schools! I have examined expenses, quality faculty members, degrees and programs offered - our Fellowship has outstanding resources! I highly recommend Southwestern Assemblies of God University, E v a n g e l U n i v e r s i t y, a n d a l l o f o u r tremendous colleges. Investment in today’s students in transition will pay life-long benefits! When the parents, or even the students, complain that it is not financially feasible, I question they have accurate information. Take time to put them in touch directly with the financial aid officers. When you connect them with the right recruiter, miracles will happen. We must take action – it will be worth the investment! The future of our Fellowship depends on our investments today! Let’s not allow pressing demands to steal today’s opportunity to invest! Thank you, for allowing Linda and me to walk among you. We love the assignment that has been birthed in our hearts for this hour! We are honored to be known as your pastor.

GOD’S CALLING Exodus 3: 1-14 Tom Goins It is exciting to watch our students in the Oklahoma School of Ministry as they prepare for ministry. I believe our Lord has a special place of ministry for each student. I believe the fields are ready for harvest. I believe every community or neighborhood in the State of Oklahoma that has an elementary and high school should have an Assemblies of God church. I believe our students are preparing for this challenge. The last two months our students have won over 100 souls to the Lord. Our Heavenly Father is looking for men and women who will dedicate themselves to His kingdoms work. He seeks people willing to accept responsibility and carry out His “assignments” to completion. The Lord commended Moses because he preserved in faith to fulfill the calling on his life. When he learned he was to lead the Hebrew slaves out of Egyptian bondage, his initial reaction was, “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh?”, but God assured him, “Certainly I will be with you.” The Lord’s divine presence was a key part of Moses’ equipping as a leader. And His response to believers today is the same. We can confidently accept the responsibility God gives us, whether it’s for leadership or some other role, because He has promised to be with us always (Matt. 28;20). However, Moses wondered whether the Hebrew people would listen to him He had been away from Egypt for a long time, and his last interaction with the Israelites had been a negative one. What kind of influence could he have? God revealed that the only credential Moses needed to give them was that he was sent by God – the I AM. When the Lord gives us a task, He will bestow the spiritual authority we need to carry it out. In addition, God gave Moses a helper – his brother Aaron. Our Heavenly Father will also provide us with the people necessary to fulfill His plan.

For over 20 years now, the special missions offering at campmeeting has been for new missionaries and other missions emergencies. The “Cash For Candidate Fund” has certainly served us well. The aggregate total through the years far exceeds a million dollars. Praise be to God for this special fund that has helped such a large number of missionaries, as well as other worthy projects. The time has come for a new catch phrase with a descriptive logo that better defines this special offering and its use. At Renewal (campmeeting) time this year the special missions offering will be for new Missionaries, new Churches, and new Opportunities. At the launching of the MCO fund on Tuesday night July 7th, everyone’s help will be needed. Yes, we need every church to bring a special offering, and every individual to participate. Together, we can enjoy a mighty move of God in the receiving of our first MCO offering. Tuesday has become Missions Day at our annual
5 Oklahoma Outlook
summer meeting. At noon on July 7, we will meet at the Nigh University Center on the campus of the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond for our annual Oklahoma District Missions Banquet. All the district departments will be presenting special awards to churches that have distinguished themselves in missions giving. Then, of course, in the evening service we will once again proudly witness the 2009 Missionary Parade and the commissioning service for three new missionary families. A combined Teen Challenge Choir representing all four of our Oklahoma Teen Challenge Centers will be presenting the special music. Oklahoma Evangelist Mark Purkey will be preaching that night. Oh for visitation of the Lord, and a fresh commitment to missions. On Assignment,

Saturday, May 2, approximately 200 children from across the state gathered for Fun Arts where they were able to display the many talents the Lord has given them. The event was held at Carbondale Assembly of God in Tulsa; 32 churches were represented. Students were critiqued in a number of divisions, including visual arts displays, puppet groups, short sermons and many more. All were EXTRAORDINARY! Thank you to all who participated and made Fun Arts 2009 a great success.

Students in our culture collide with these same questions and pressures every year. Some high school seniors make it and some do not. Some students enter college and continue on the journey of discipleship and others are never seen again.
