The only grandson of John and Eleanor Kirkpatrick, OKC FRIDAY’s OKCityan of the Year Chris Keesee is following in their footsteps of success in business, philanthropy and the advancement of the arts. Keesee, 60, is also the only son of Joan Kirkpatrick and Konrad Keesee. The Kirkpatricks had a significant influence on their grandson as they involved him in their various business and civic activities, including monthly financial planning meetings. Absorbing his grandmother’s passion for the arts, his first position was as a fundraiser for the Oklahoma Arts Center. While serving on the board of the Kirkpatrick Foundation, he launched a project to revitalize and reopen a facility that his grandfather had built to house the Oklahoma Arts and Sciences Foundation. This developed into the City Arts Center. Keesee now serves as chairman of Kirkpatrick Bank and manager of the Family Office, which invests in banking, philanthropic, real estate and energy-oriented opportunities. He is chairman of the Kirkpatrick Foundations: The Kirkpatrick Family Fund, the Kirkpatrick Foundation and the Christian Keesee Charitable Trust. Like his grandparents, his philantropic initiatives focus on the arts, art education, culture, community concerns, animal well-being, environmental conservation and historical preservation. The foundations support organizations with projects and programs dedicated to these causes. John Kirkpatrick started the Oklahoma City Community Foundation in 1969 when most people in OKC had never heard of a community foundation, Nancy Anthony, its executive director said.“

From left: Blake Keesee, Christian Keesee and Larry Keigwin. The back of the photograph reads: An important milestone was reached on March 10, 2020 as we celebrated the opening of Oklahoma Contemporary Arts Center’s beautiful new building designed by Rand Elliott. An arts organization our family has nurtured for over 30 years, Oklahoma Contemporary is now the most significant new cultural addition to Oklahoma City’s landscape in over a generation. This photograph was taken under Leo Villareal’s Star Ceiling installation in Oklahoma Contemporary’s galleries.

Chris Keesee has been a leader much like his grandfather — seeing things that could improve and expand the life of the community,” she said. Louisa McCune, executive director of the Kirkpatrick Foundation, See KEESEE, Page 2

Cat of the Week

Saber is a silly, smart cat that his humans, the King family (Justin, Jami, Emory, and Griffin), just adore. His favorite thing to do is play with the laser pointer! He is a 1year-old and is a Domestic Longhair. Saber is the King family’s favorite child by far. He is spoiled and loves to be outside, so if you ever see him out on the town, give the Kings a call. Email Dog of the Week, Baby of the Week and Cat of the Week submissions to rose@okcfriday.com.
