The pandemic: How COVID-19 changed Oklahoma City By Rose Lane Editor It was on March 11, 2020, when things really started to change as COVID-19 began to spread through Oklahoma. That evening, the OKC Thunder were set to take on the Utah Jazz. Carol Schaller
and her husband John were there. “We hadn’t been to a game in three years and were excited to see them play the Utah Jazz,” she said. “We got there early and were in our seats watching the teams warm up.” About the time the game was going to start, Carol said
they saw the referees conferring with both team coaches and a few other people. “After a few minutes, we watched the Utah Jazz team walk off the court,” she said. “The next thing we saw was the Thunder players leaving the floor with their coach.” A buzz went through the Chesapeake Arena that the
game was not going to go on. The announcer came on and informed everyone that the NBA had cancelled the game and he asked everyone to leave in an orderly manner. “Many friends knew we were going to the game and our phones started buzzing with texts and phone calls
wanting to know what was happening,” Carol said. “All we could tell them is what the announcer had said, though we were hearing talk of a player having COVID-19. As we walked to our car, I looked at John and said, ‘We See COVID, Page 12

Senior Follies set auditions Audition times and dates have been set for the 2021 edition of the Oklahoma Senior Follies. Billie Thrash is hosting auditions Friday, March 19, 6-8 p.m.; Saturday, March 20, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Friday, March 26, 6-8 p.m.; and Saturday, March 27, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All auditions are at New Covenant Christian Church, 12000 N. Rockwell. Strict CDC protocols apply, Thrash said. An accompanist has been scheduled for auditions.
Musicians need to bring their own sheet music. If applicable, musicians also must bring their own amp as a plug-in is available. The Oklahoma Senior Follies will star some of the state’s greatest senior talents of stage, screen, television and radio.
