Degree Options Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications Mass Communications students earn their undergraduate degrees by successfully completing 36 credit hours of coursework in the major. This consists of 15 hours in required Mass Communications courses, with the remaining hours taken in one or more of the tracks shown above.
Minor in Mass Communications Students wishing to study Mass Communications along with another degree can declare an 18 credit hour Mass Communications minor. All Mass Communications classes are taught by full-time faculty with years of professional experience in their media fields.
Studying Abroad Mass Communications students have the option of enrolling in annual faculty-led, summer study abroad trips to either London, England, or Siena, Italy. London: Students spend one month studying British media and culture while living at Kingston University. The trip includes tours of London’s top media companies and historic cultural sites across the region. Siena: Students spend one month studying travel writing and Italian culture while living in Siena. The trip includes tours of Rome, Venice and Florence. Students write and produce a travel magazine to document the trip.
What will I do as a Mass Communications major OCU? • Learn practical skills (research, writing, editing, production) needed for success in today’s multimedia environment • Create strategic communications campaigns for local, national and global brands • Develop social media campaigns for clients • Write, shoot and edit music videos, television shows and TV commercials • Manage crisis communications for troubled businesses and host press conferences to improve media relations skills • Learn ethical codes and guidelines from professional organizations including the Society of Professional Journalists, Radio Television Digital News Association, American Advertising Federation, and Public Relations Society of America

Hands-on Learning The department features multiple hands-on learning labs for student use: Student Publications newsroom, TV studio, video editing lab, audio booth, and iMac computer lab. Students can work for the Student Publications staff, which produces The Campus newspaper and MediaOCU.com, the student media web site. They also can produce and host television shows for OCU Channel 22. Mass Communications students are encouraged to complete at least one internship with a local media organization to gain experience and network with professionals. Faculty assist students with internship placement.
100% Job Placement Rate Mass Communications graduates have achieved 100 percent job placement in their desired media-related fields within six months of graduation since 2010.
