One of the wettest summer’s in recent history is under way and the big lake has risen nearly 2 feet as a result. Bass fishing has remained steady as she goes. The early morning bite ranges from great to terrific each day. A spinner bait worked through the cover will result in jolting strikes from aggressive fish as they rocket up from below the bait to eat it. Swim jigs have found a place in the arsenal of savvy anglers in the last few months, and have proved effective in drawing strikes in all sorts of cover.
The early morning pattern is the most predictable bite of the day, getting on the water before daylight can be critical to an anglers success. The early morning bite can last from 45 minutes to 2 hours, varying with the amount of sunlight each day. Once the sun rises well into the sky a slower presentation is necessary to continue to catch bass throughout the morning. Flipping and pitching or slowly swimming a jig will draw strikes from bass that are lazing around in the heavier cover areas. — Cpt. Mike Shellen

All supplies will be donated to My Aunt’s House (501c3) for distribution to needy and foster children in Okeechobee. There are drop boxes at all Okeechobee fire stations, so if you are unable to make it to Wal Mart you can drop off supplies at any of the stations before the 12th of August.
The B.R.A.T Club is keeping busy by throwing a teen dance as well. The dance will be at the Freshman Campus 610 SW 2nd Ave. Join the fun Saturday August 24th from 7 – 10 P.M. ages 12-16 for only $7.00 which includes pizza, chips and soda.
