opefully we have seen the end of cold weather for another year. Fishing had returned to nearly normal by Sunday afternoon and should continue to get better as the week progresses. Many speck fishermen have been choosing the dark hours to pursue their favorite pan fish; those using minnows are catching in the river, while the jig users are still finding good numbers in the grass edges. As we approach the full moon near the end of the month it will be interesting to see if any blue gill and or shell cracker make their presence known. There have been years in the past when we have found shell cracker on the

outside edges or in the very thick cover areas, as they wait to move into spawning flats to fan beds and spawn. With the water at more than a foot deeper than last year at this time seeing the fish as they cruise about looking for bedding areas could be more difficult. The ultraclear water areas of the lake will provide the best chance for sight fishing. As always grass shrimp will get bites from specks, bass, blue gill and shell cracker, which should keep everybody happy. Be mindful that there is a slot limit on bass and they should be gently unhooked and put back into the water to continue growing.
