Okeechobee Christian Academy is organizing the annual Easter basket give away for children less fortunate in our community. Seacoast National Bank has generously donated 100 baskets for us to fill. We are collecting items such as grass, snacks, candy, small toys, stuffed animals, coloring books, crayons, bubbles, cellophane bags to wrap up the baskets, etc. The student body will assemble the baskets and then they will be distributed by Communities in Schools. The number of baskets that can be assembled depends on the amount of donations received. Last year we were able to distribute over 100 baskets! Donations can be made at Okeechobee Christian Academy located at 701 S. Parrott Avenue by March 30th. The winner of the tournament was Ishama Monroe from California. The 20 bass that was brought to the scales during the four-day event tipped the scales at 108 lbs 5oz. The pro’s all commented about our great fishery and the terrific fishing the Big “O” provided. Monroe’s bass were caught using a flipping technique with a Missile Baits D bomb. There were many different methods employed by the anglers during the week, ranging from spinnerbaits, frogs, swim baits, lipless crankbaits and many different types of plastics. The slow precise method of flipping and pitching to heavy cover areas ultimately provided the bigger bass of the

event. The outside grass lines are holding large numbers of bass as well as big bass. The area from Point of the Reef to Observation Shoal is producing fish day in and day out. Pelican Bay was a popular area for many anglers that made the run to the South end of the lake. If you are an avid bass angler it is a great time to hone your skills by catching big Okeechobee bass. We have been expecting a wave of shell cracker/ blue gill to move shallow at any time. So far though the panfish that are being caught that I have seen are coming from the deeper canals edges. Grass shrimp and crickets have provided the better results.
