he only thing around Lake Okeechobee and the surrounding communities that has slowed down is the traffic. Most of our northern friends have returned home leaving us at a time when the fishing is at its absolute peak for whatever fish species you may pursue. It’s the time of year when the water is low enough that the bass are being pushed toward the outside vegetation band where they are easily accessible. Bass can be found schooling in the early morning hours in many areas of the lake. As the water warms the early morning low, light period is critical. If you desire to catch bass on top water the early morning bite can be terrific. Plastics of all types, along with lipless crank baits, will catch numbers of bass, while flipping or pitching a jig will give you a shot at the bigger bass. Pan fish abound all around the lake. Many areas of the north end have stained water to contend with which makes finding the bedding areas by sight more difficult. Many anglers are just poking around until they get bit and many times can sit in one place and catch as many blue

If you are an angler that loves to eat catfish, there are catfish aplenty in the lake. Use cut bait on the bottom. Worms will work, but by cutting a baitfish into pieces you will get more bang for your buck. We have caught catfish from one pound to ten pounds while shinerfishing for bass, so I know the fish are there.
