We’ve had incredible weather and great fishing. It’s a match made in heaven or Okeechobee. The blue gill bite has been very good with the recent full moon phase. Local canals are producing large numbers of big blue gills when the wind may prevent you from fishing the lake. Harney Pond, Indian Prairie, J&S and Buckhead Ridge canals are all producing for anglers looking for the great tasting pan fish. Red worms, crickets and grass shrimp are all producing. Worms and crickets are available at local tackle shops while grass shrimp are a little harder to come by, but well worth the effort. Every fish that swims in Okeechobee

will eat a grass shrimp. Bass fishing with artificial baits or live bait is working. Shiners will produce the larger fish while artificials can provide larger numbers. Spinner baits in the Kissimmee grass will draw strikes from bass that are chasing and feeding on shad. Top water baits have been producing for us during the very early morning hours before the sun gets well up into the sky. Plastics of all sorts will produce fish. Use very light weights so that the bait looks and falls naturally for best results. The North Shore, Observation Shoal, Grassy Island and Eagle Bay are all place to look when hunting for a great bass bite. — Cpt. Mike Shellen
