Red Cross Disaster Specialist takes lead in Okeechobee County
Charles Parker brings local and professional experience to role. WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (August 22, 2011) — Charles “Chuck” Parker, an active Red Cross volunteer and local Florida resident, stepped into his new role as the Disaster Specialist in Okeechobee County for the American Red Cross Palm Beaches-Treasure Coast Region on Monday, August 22. He will manage the disaster response in Okeechobee as the Red Cross continues meeting the needs of the local communities across the region. In addition to his more than 13 years of professional experience with disaster operations, Parker also worked as a Red Cross volunteer in multiple capacities. Within the local Red Cross, Parker taught disaster training courses, captained a disaster response team and served on the Red Cross Advisory Board in Okeechobee for three years. “Chuck will play a vital role in growing our community presence in Okeechobee, and supporting our team across the Treasure Coast,” said Rob Levine, regional executive for the Red Cross. “Beyond his local knowledge and established relationships with community leaders, it is his service as a disaster relief volunteer that has touched so many lives in Okeechobee and will make him successful in this new position.”

ass fishing is an ever changing endeavor. At certain times of year we anglers find areas where we can catch fish for extended periods of time and then just as suddenly as day turns to night the fish move. Many times the fish move because of seasonal factor. Other times they move because of environmental reasons. Water is flowing into the lake in many different areas all around the lake. Sometimes the inflow is clean and other times it is oxygen depleted and carrying suspended silt. In the last month the wind has changed directions many times pushing black undesirable water into areas that previously had been producing bass daily. Necessity has made us leave our comfort zone once again to search out areas where the fish are biting. As I said earlier there are many places around the lake where water is flowing. Some are quite obvious and others are more subtle. It may be necessary to travel more than you have been in order to keep catching big numbers of bass, but ultimately it will pay off for you. Top water baits and crank baits, both lipless and diving, are both producing. Plastics like worms, senko’s, flukes and others are drawing most of the bites though. We
are fishing plastics on shaky heads, Carolina rigged or Texas rigged and all are showing results. Colors that have been working best for us include black with different colored flecks and variations of green, such as watermelon or green pumpkin with different colored flecks. Somedays color is critical other times it does not seem to matter, so try some of those weird colors that are in the bottom of your worm box. They may just produce for you.
