t is the time of year when local bass clubs and trails are all winding down. Anglers are vying for the honor of being the angler of the year for their respective organization. This weekend the Bassmaster Weekend Series held a two-day tournament out of Scott Driver Park. As has been the case for quite some time now, the Kissimmee River yielded many of the fish that were caught in the event. Many anglers though chose to fish the lake, which provided good limits of fish as well. Mike Jackson from San Mateo Fla. won the event with nearly 38 pounds for the twoday event. Many bass in the six-toseven pound range were brought to the scale in spite of the very warm water and bright sunny conditions. Bass can be found schooling all around the lake, from the west side around Uncle Joes to the North Shore and Tin House Cove, including the east side of the lake. Good eyes help tremendously when looking for schooling bass. Scanning the lake for busting fish is an art-form. Once you locate fish chasing bait, a lipless crankbait or a Carolina rig will both draw strikes. I have received numerous reports from anglers telling of catching two bass at once on a crankbait or a topwater plug in the last few
weeks. When the fish are in a feeding frenzy, throwing a top-water bait in the midst of them will often result in more than one hookup. Okeechobee is proud to announce the grand opening of the OK Corral Gun Club. It features 15 sporting clay shooting stations, 3d archery section and a Cowboy action shooting area. The club is situated on 80 acres at 6341 NE 96th Avenue, Okeechobee Florida. The club is a first-class site for those that enjoy shooting or archery, and promises to be a great addition to the area. It’s only a short ride from town. So stop in and check out the great facilities.
