CM@UCO Rocks Bricktown is now the ACM@UCO Metro Music Fest! Join us for a bigger, bolder music experience celebrating UCO’s 125th anniversary and our state’s musical legacy. The festival will feature a variety of established Oklahoma artists including John Fullbright, BRONCHO and Horse Thief along with more than 60 ACM@UCO student bands performing throughout Oklahoma City’s Bricktown District.

A

s the University of Central Oklahoma, the parent school for the Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM@ UCO), celebrates its 125th year, the festival welcomes a change, too.

ACM@UCO Rocks Bricktown is now Metro Music Fest, as the event now incorporates a broader variety of bands and venues, each with Oklahoma ties.

Over 60 acts take to 10 stages on Friday in a free music festival and showcase that spans crisp and clean, up-tempo singer-songwriter fare; sludgy, psychedelic rock; an old-school

Tulsa Sound tribute and even electronica and DJ music.

This is Oklahoma music like many haven’t heard before, as the school not only spotlights its unique program but the state’s music industry. Many artists will perform in venues they’re not usually associated with in ways not normally linked to their respective genres.

One headliner, electronicaladen rock act Shiny Toy Guns, formed in L.A., includes keyboardist-bassist Jeremy Dawson and vocalist-guitarist Chad Petree, who grew up together in Shawnee.

Oklahoma City hiphop artist Jabee delivers his substantive lyrical flow in an intimate setting 12:15 a.m. at the ACM@UCO Songwriting Room on the school’s Bricktown campus.

Norman-OKC-Tulsa punkpop hybrid Broncho — fresh from a fistful of South by Southwest showcases in Austin — plays its only Oklahoma show announced for its current tour, which runs through July and hits cities from Paris to New Orleans. Broncho takes

the AT&T Main Stage at 11:15 p.m. Friday, after Bearden native and fresh-faced folk and blues wunderkind John Fullbright’s 10 p.m. show.

Launched six years ago, the full-day Metro Music Fest succeeds with help from school-tied music acts, tech crews, sound engineers, business majors, management and even University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) public relations and marketing students.

Metro Music Fest venues include Whiskey Chicks, Wormy Dog Saloon, JJ’s Alley Bricktown Pub, ACM@UCO Performance Lab, Capt. Norm’s Dockside Bar, with additional stages at the AT&T Main Stage, located at the southwest corner of Reno and Oklahoma Ave., the Fountain and Sonic stages in lower Bricktown and ACM@ UCO’s Patio and Songwriting Room stages.

Metro Music Fest runs 3:00 p.m. to 2 a.m. April 10 in Bricktown. Admission is free and all-ages for most stages.

However, some venues require guests to be 21 and over to enter.
