obert White has always loved the CH-EH Fourth of July picnic and parade. With its irreverent floats, visiting judges and block captains, the event always promises a good time, but this year, it had a special twist for Robert and his daughter, Patricia, who were named CH-EH Neighbors of the Year. “We were knocked off our feet,” he said. That’s how Bob and

Pati described the recent announcement of their win, which was kept secret from neighborhood association board member Bob. “We had no idea,” he said. “They called our names, and we were both in shock.” Pati said that she normally accompanies Robert to neighborhood meetings and he had received an email asking him to nominate individuals for Neighbor of the Year. The Whites’ win marks the first time a father and daughter have jointly won the annual award. “We’re just incredibly honored. We love doing things for the neighborhood because we love the neighborhood,” said Pati. “We love our neighbors. We’re happy here, and we’ve been happy here for a long, long time.” Bob first moved to the CH-EH area 53 years ago.

After spending some years living in Corpus Christi, Texas, where he met his wife, Bob moved back to OKC in 1959 and then to the CH-EH area in 1965. As a charter member of the neighborhood association and of its security association, Bob has seen the area grow and change throughout the years. Bob is only the third owner of his house, a testament to the neighborhood’s staying power. “We moved here before the neighborhood discovered modernized kitchens,” said Bob, “before they had landscaping. When I moved in my house, there were two or three of those giant cylindrical cedar trees that were in the front, right in front of the house. There were no flowerbeds; it was all grass.” Over the years, kitchens have changed and yards burst with seasonal flowers. Now, Bob’s
