OEC Fiber: Getting in the Zone

By Kayla Brandt

If you've been following OEC's journey into fiber and broadband, you know 2018 has been a year of planning and construction. Our efforts to connect all of our electric substations to the fiber network are almost complete, which means we are getting closer to offering members access to reliable high-speed internet.

As you are all familiar, we have built Fiber Huts at each electric substation, connected each Fiber Hut with our Fiber Rings and have nearly finished construction of these main lines in order to branch out to offer services to all of OEC’s service territory. All of this has happened since April, 2018 — just eight short months. This has been a lot of ground to cover, but we are looking forward to 2019 and beyond.

We are working hard to begin offering services to certain parts of our territory, which will be divided into smaller Fiber Zones, in the coming year. This will be an ongoing process full of variables, which we are fine-tuning each and every day. Our Fiber Zones will be live on our website soon and allow us to communicate our progress for your specific location as we get to it. All you’ll need to do is visit www.OECFiber.com and enter your address to learn about our progress specific to your location. We will continue to communicate major updates as we have them and cannot wait to begin connecting subscribers to our system.

In short, 2018 was a year packed full of construction whereas 2019 will be a year with both construction and connecting subscribers. Thank you for your patience and support as we continue to build out our network and take high-speed fiber where no one else will!
