RSO: Exploring the benefits of Cannabis for Cancer Patient
Rick Simpson Oil, aka RSO, was initially created by Rick Simpson to treat his skin cancer, and he swears by it. Does it help cancer patients? The jury is still out, but many people believe in the power of the RSO. What is RSO, and what are the benefits for cancer patients? In this article, we will explore the benefits of RSO.
What is RSO?
RSO, first and foremost, is a cannabis concentrate. It is a type of FECO or Full Extract Cannabis Oil or FESCO (Full Spectrum Cannabis Oil), meaning every compound found within the plant is in the oil. The oil is rich in cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids. It is made by using ethanol, butane, or naphtha. For this article, we will use food-grade alcohol. The cannabis is mixed with alcohol, and then cannabis is macerated in the alcohol. Once this process is complete, the alcohol is drained out. The cannabis is heated in a slow cooker until the alcohol residue evaporates. You will often see RSO in a syringe from a dispensary (no needle required). Since the potency in RSO is high, dosing should be low and slow. No more than half the size of a grain of rice. Seriously! RSO is high in THC.
Cancer and RSO
You are probably wondering how RSO works with cancer. When Rick Simpson first used the oil, he treated his skin for cancer. He applied the oil topically to his skin cancer, and his cancerous cells were gone in a matter of time. Cannabis has also been found in some studies to assist with destroying cancer cells and cancer-related symptoms. The cannabinoids found in cannabis have been shown in studies to work with the endocannabinoid system in the body, primarily the CB1 and CB2 receptors in the brain. Studies in Israel with cancer patients over six months displayed an improvement in cancer symptoms.
Furthermore, RSO/Cannabis has assisted patients in mood elevation, decreased anxiety, and feeling more like themselves. Cancer is not a pretty word or a wanted diagnosis, and no miracle cure is available. Cannabis can help relieve the symptoms and, in some cases, kill cancer cells. More studies are needed to capture all the benefits of the cannabis plant. Today more doctors and patients are discussing cannabis for cancer symptom relief.
