Design Statement The U.K. has been plagued in the last few months by economic and social crisis. As an immigrant trying to settle into a once stable fashion capital of the world, the recent events have had me and my family troubled. The most recent of these terrifying incidents was the fire outbreak at Grenfell tower. This 220 feet tall building took the lives of 30 and left 74 injured. One of the injured is a young female friend who I worked with at a previous place of work. Through this project, I aim to inform humanity of the volatile nature of life. It only takes a moment for everything to change from good to bad. To relay this concept, I decided to infuse the assymetric neckline trend into this project. The fact that one garment has one shoulder worn normally and the other dropped down the arm micmicks the way life can deplete from normal to abnormal without one’s notice.
