The municipality of Nordkapp has 3.300 inhabitants and consists of five fishing villages and the administration center Honningsvåg. Honningsvåg is a modern town with shopping, activities and restaurants, several hotels and sights of interest. Travelling here is easy. You can go by car, bus, boat or bike. Or you can fly. Communications are excellent with a subsea tunnel connecting Magerøya and the mainland, a commercial airport and the coastal express Hurtigruten making port of calls daily. The port of Honningsvåg is the gateway to Nordkapp. As the largest cruise port in Northern Norway with more than 100 cruise ships during summer, it offers ideal conditions for large vessels. With its deep water harbor and good infrastructure, it is able to berth four cruise ships simultaneously. The port is in walking distance to the town center, shopping and sights. NEW PIER AT NORDKAPP A new cruise pier was ﬁnished in 2011, allowing larger ships to dock in the center of Honningsvåg. It has a depth of 12 m and length of 300 m. Available at the pier are two hydraulic Capstone pullers, each with a capacity of 250 tons.

BIRDSAFARI AS AN OFFICIAL EXTRAORDINARY NATURE PHENOMENON This is a once-in-a-lifetime nature opportunity. KING CRAB ADVENTURE BY BOAT We welcome you to the port of Honningsvåg, and invite you to experience our nature up close. In the next three hours you will be deep sea rafting, you will meet the impressive King Crab and you get the opportunity to prepare and taste it. There will be a short walk from the pier to the boat where a safety drill will be held. We take you deep sea rafting to Sarnesfjorden. Here we stop and check what’s inside the traps down in the deep. The trip continues to our lavvocamp. Here we go ashore and prepare the catch of the day. The King Crab can measure up to 2 meters between its claws, and weigh as much as 10 kilos. However we are most likely to catch smaller King Crabs in between 3 to 7 kilos.

KING CRAB ADVENTURE BY COACH We leave by bus from Honningsvåg to our lavvocamp at Sarnes. Here the guests are welcomed by our hosts, and we walk down to the pier where we look at the live King Crabs. The distance from the road to the pier is about 30 metres. We keep the crabs in large tanks on shore, and we pick them up so that our guests can hold them and take photos. We will show how we prepare them, and offer some facts about the King Crab. The guests will then bring the crabs we need for cooking back to the lavvo. Here we prepare a meal of the crabs, and serve it in the lavvo. The lavvo is situated just 20 meters from the pier. Our guests participate in the whole process from getting the crab, slaughtering and cooking it. The King Crab is served with bread, lemon, mayonnaise and mineral water. It is possible to buy beer or wine to the meal. After the meal we serve fresh coffee, brewed over open ﬁre, with some biscuits. THE ULTIMATE NORDKAPP DEEP SEA RAFTING AND VISIT IN THE ICEBAR We welcome you to the port of Honningsvåg, and invite you to experience our nature up close. In the next 1,5 hours we will go deep sea rafting and visit inside the beautiful Artico Icebar. There will be a short walk from the pier to the boat where a safety drill will be held. We take you deep sea rafting to Helnes and Kjelvik. The history of Helnes goes back to the year 1694, and we give interesting information about this place. 200 years ago, Kjelvik was the community center of the Nordkapp municipality (up to the late 18-hundreds). Before 1882 the only church in the municipality was located here, but when the church was destroyed by a winter storm it was decided not to rebuild it. Instead a new church was built in Honningsvåg. This was ﬁnished in 1885, today the oldest building on the island. When we are back in Honningsvåg we will go to the Artico Icebar and take a look inside. You will find the inside to be made of natural ice from the lakes of Lapland. Inside there is also an icebar, an igloo, a movie screen of ice and nice sculptures.

FISHING VILLAGE TOUR - MAGERØYA ISLAND This excursion takes you through fantastic summer landscapes to the fishing villages of Kamøyvær and Skarsvåg. VISIT TO A SAMI CAMP Nils M. Somby’s “siida” (Sami camp) is situated 22 km from Honningsvåg, nearby Nordkapp. A visit to the camp and the traditional “lavvu” (tent) belonging to the family, gives a ﬁrsthand view into the life and culture of the Sami people. For generations the family has had its summer camp on Magerøya, just a short walk from the road to Nordkapp. You can be served “bidos” (a Sami banquet) or just snacks and coffee. NORDKAPP CHRISTMAS AND WINTERHOUSE Visit the northernmost fishing village in the world. We are happy to invite you to Skarsvåg, one of the small fishing villages on Magerøya. CONVOY TO NORDKAPP Visiting Nordkapp in summer is a great adventure experienced by thousands. Visiting in winter is even more powerful. The Arctic scenery is breathtaking and the journey to the top of Europe is unique. Sometimes the weather does not allow transport by road. Blizzards and storms may close down roads for hours. The road to Nordkapp is officially closed during winter, but in recent years it is kept open for convoys. All vehicles have to join a convoy to reach Nordkapp, and convoy driving to Nordkapp in the midst of winter is an exciting experience. Meeting point for the convoy is by the Skarsvåg junction, 13 km from Nordkapp. All vehicles are welcome to participate, but we recommend private cars and buses to join the convoy at 11:30. Convoys leave daily at 11:30 and 12:30 from the Skarsvåg crossing Departure from Nordkapp at 13:30 and 14:15.

Behind the convoy there is always another snow plow or safety vehicle. The driver of the front and rear vehicles keeps contact during the convoy and the front car may stop occasionally to check if all cars are following along. The road to Nordkapp is the ﬁrst to close during bad weather. Keep this in mind and allow yourself a day or two extra when travelling in the Arctic. Welcome to the adventure of Arctic winter!

In a convoy the snow plow drives in front of a column of cars. Beware that the driver of the plow is in charge of the convoy and may refuse vehicles to follow if they are not properly equipped for the tour. ATV SAFARI The tour starts from our ofﬁce in the center of Honningsvåg. Following a security review we start the trip towards “Nato mountain”. On the tour you will experience the unique nature of the island, and we stop at several stunning viewpoints. From the mountain we head back to Honningsvåg and drive to the old church before we end the safari at our ofﬁce. The tour is on both gravel and asphalt roads.

SNOWMOBILE SAFARI We welcome you to Honningsvåg and invite you to experience stunning nature up close. During ﬁve hours we will give you an unforgettable snowmobile safari to Nordkapp. We will go by bus or cars from Honningsvåg to the start of the snowmobile track where a safety drill will be held. This takes about 15 minutes. Then we start on the tour to Nordkapp. On the tour we will drive through a beautiful arctic scenery. We will make stops along the way to take pictures. Arriving at Nordkapp you have the opportunity to go inside and watch the panorama film and visit the gift shop. Total distance of the tour is 55 kilometers.

ABOUT THE NORTHERN LIGHTS MYTH OF THE NORTHERN LIGHTS Sometimes the Northern Lights all come out together, dancing across the sky in orange, purple, green and sunset red. At other times, they are curtains of green or a twister of ethereal light. The Northern Lights were traditionally associated with sound by the Sami, Norway’s indigenous people. Northern Light symbols are found on the Sami shamanistic drum. During the Viking Age, the Northern Lights were the armor of the Valkyrie warrior virgins, shedding a strange flickering light. Some also believe they are the fiery breath of a dragon flashing across the sky. In olden days, Scandinavian fishermen believed that the Northern Lights were the reflections of herring in the Northern Sea. And according to Japanese legend, it is good luck to conceive a child under the Northern Lights. Many young children make wishes and believe they can catch the Northern Lights by waving to the sky. WHAT ARE THE NORTHERN LIGHTS? In reality, if not as poetic, they are equally impressive. The sun is the true father of the Auroras. Caused by large explosions and flares, huge quantities of particles are thrown out of the sun and into deep space. These particle clouds travel through space at speeds varying from 300 to 1,000 kilometres per second. When the particles collide with the gases in the earth’s atmosphere, they glow, producing a fantastic array of colour. This is why the Northern Lights are never the same, no matter how many times you see them. WHERE TO SEARCH FOR THE NORTHERN LIGHTS? Theoretically, you can see the Northern Lights all over Norway. However, the best places are above the Arctic Circle in Northern Norway. Popular destinations for the Northern Lights are Lofoten and Narvik in Nordland, Tromsø in Troms, Alta, Kirkenes, Kautokeino, Karasjok and Nordkapp in Finnmark, and the Svalbard Islands. Not only are you almost guaranteed a sight of this wondrous spectacle, you will also gain a unique travel experience through breathtaking scenery and an array of adventurous activities. This is a journey of a lifetime. HOW TO BEST OBSERVE THE NORTHERN LIGHTS Your first glimpse of the Northern Lights is a jaw-dropping and mystical moment. The Northern Lights are at their most frequent in late autumn and winter/early spring. October, February and March are the best months for Aurora observations. The highest frequency for the Northern Lights is between 6 pm and 1 am. In order to get full value, you should avoid the full moon and places with a lot of light as they make the experience considerably paler. Also remember to wrap up warmly. HOW TO CAPTURE THE NORTHERN LIGHTS? A digital camera with manual settings is vital to capture the Northern Lights. Also remember to charge the camera to the full or bring extra batteries as camera batteries tend to run down quickly in the cold. Use a tripod and remote timer so that the camera will stand still. We recommend the use of a wide angle lens for manipulation. An F-Stop f/2.8 or better will give you the best picture. Do not use auto-focus. Use an ISO setting of 100-400. The higher ISO the better
