TYPE-FACE DESIGN ANALYSIS

As a visual designers, I am always lead and attracted to brands through their logo designs at the first, and then how well does their publications and packages relate to the idea of their products. In this projects, I am designing a typeface that is emerged from a certain common, the typeface should have the minimum characteristics of the common and give a clear implication of the brand. Looking at different existing commons around us, I found out that there are few famous brands, that sell well designed products, but needs a fresh look at the their visual designs. I chose a jewelery brand called PANDORA, PANDORA produces beautifully designed jewelry which became one of the most famous jewelery stores worldwide nowadays. The reason I have chosen PANDORA is that I believe that their existing logo needs to be updated to look modern, the

bulkiness of the existing typeface doesn’t match the brand mission and products. Starting off with designing a type face for my chosen common, I looked into the products characteristics, to give me a hint and inspiration to create the design. Most of the pieces are very elegant, they have a strong contrast between thin and delicate parts integrated with big jewels. The contrast between thin and think gives it a unique look and made it special. Also, looking at the modern fashion magazines, and pages that are considered leaders in design and fashion lately, I have noticed that most of them use typefaces that are thin with a bit of contrast with the thicker parts. To give the typeface a distinctive gesture, I have added a small thin ligature to the letters, that looks as an accessory to the letter-forms. The chosen examples above are the most

seen applications in PANDORA, as users, we always start off by checking the website to look at the new campaign and banners, or going to the store, then ending up carrying a bag from the store. My future refinements for this typeface, is that I would look into the negative spaces of the letters, and how could the relationship between the different negative spaces enhance the design of the letter-forms. Furthermore, I would look at the spacing between letters, because putting the letters together might imply a different overall design.
