Analysis
New Zealand ice cream company are looking for new campaigns to expand their market. In this design study, I am proposing an illustrative direction that could give an fashionable look to the brand and preserve the story of the brand.
Design Analysis
Starting off, I started looking at the story of New Zealand ice-cream, to note down their vision and what does the ice cream as a brand mean to them. It is obvious that they have strong relationship and loyalty with new Zealand’s unique animals, plants and landscape. The first thing that I saw when I opened their website is the view of the famous mountain and lake in New Zealand along with the tree fern in their logo. Therefore, I thought of listing down the symbols of new Zealand’s and represent them through an illustration the could enhance the design of the ice cream packaging and applications. I wanted to represent these symbols with a material that could build an indulgent with the consumer and communicate with experience of eating the ice cream.
Loose watercolor technique was one of the options that could relate to the liquid form of the ice-cream. In my opinion, watercolor illustrations were a good integration with the ice-cream packaging design as it has the liquid manner which could enhance the consumer experience. In my designs, I focused on view of Aoraki mount cook as it is the highest mountain in New Zealand and is considered of the landscape’s that signifies the country. Further, I added the illustration of the kiwi, as the icecream brand is Driven by the Kiwi’s indomitable spirit. The illustrations could be used in the icecream cup package design, the cone package design and a wall paper in the store’s interior. I emphasize on the wall interior as ice cream recently has been a very attractive item to photograph and share on social media. I believe that having an interesting wall design that says the story of the shop and carries the liquid look that works with an ice-cream could be very interesting for the user.
