• East offers four lunch periods. • If you have last lunch you might find it a good idea to bring a snack to eat earlier in the day. • You eat lunch with your fifth hour class, so start making some friends on the first day. • Your lunch might change if your schedule does. • Microwaves are available to heat up your food if needed. • Also if you forget your card at home, don’t worry, the lunch ladies can just look you up by your last name so you do not have to wait until everyone else gets their lunch.

• Hallways are numbered with signs above them that direct you in the right direction. • Use maps to plan out your schedule before the first day to avoid getting lost. • The locker rooms are located in the 200 hallway near the gymnasiums. • The school nurse is located in the office next to the attendance desk. • The counseling office is located by the 100 hallway by the back staircase in case you need to make an appointment to visit your counselor. • Secretaries are your friends and can help you when you need a question answered.

• When walking through the hallways, follow the system of walking on the right side like a road. • Whatever you do, DO NOT STOP in the hallway. You might cause a catastrophic traffic jam. • You will be able to choose your own locker, but most students carry around their backpack and lunch box to every class.
• Block day is only on Wednesdays and Thursdays. • Wednesday is 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th hour or “odd block”. • On Thursdays school does not start until 8:30 because teachers have meetings every Thursday mornings. • You could use Thursday mornings to catch up on work in the Academic Resource Room. • Thursday or “even block” consists of 2nd, seminar, 4th and 6th hour and lunch will be during 4th hour. • Seminar consists of time to study, when you will meet with Hawk Leaders to learn and play games and attend pep assemblies.

Welcome to Olathe East! Pretty crazy that you guys will be going to school As I walked through the doors of high school last year as a here in a short six months. You want to know what’s even crazier? In three freshman, terrified of everyone and everything around me, I found short months, I won’t be going to school here anymore. My name is Mikie it tough being in a whole new school especially such a massive one Brown, and I am a senior. I’m writing to you all today in an attempt to share like East. Insane amounts of people all around me, extensive hallways some guidance as you embark on you high school journey. with confusing classroom numbers, four mixed grade lunch periods Just as many of you are probably feeling, I was TERRIFIED to come to high and the new concept of block days: all new things but don’t worry, school. My middle school years, while awkward and occasionally drama filled, you’ll get used to them just like I have! :) were pretty darn good; I didn’t feel completely ready to leave yet. I had a solid One of the first changes I noticed was we get six minutes for group of friends, was co-captian of the drill team, and had finally figured out passing period. I always thought I’d need ten minutes or more to all the twists and turns of the CT hallways (go Bulldogs!). I had also heard all get around this enormous school but I think the time given is just the things about high school that you’ve probably heard from TV, peers, books, enough. I’ll be honest and say that extra sixth minute you get in high and movies: that upperclassmen will shove you into lockers, coaches and teach- school compared to middle school can be a lifesaver, especially when ers are all mean, you won’t have any of the same friends, etcetera. I don’t know you have to cross the entire school to get to your next class, but the about you, but that didn’t sound super appealing to me. Turns out though, allotted time is usually perfect. I had to keep this in mind because NONE OF THAT IS TRUE! You’ll make new classes end at weird times, so memorize those friends, that’s pretty much unavoidable, but times. Soooo many opportunities really convenient for me personally because I’m glued to my phone are coming your way - every single one of you - and I encourage you to take as like many teens are. Trust me, you’re not the only iphone addict in many of them as you can. Trust painfully shy freshman me, I KNOW it’s diffithis school. Just remember to put it away when necessary, because cult to put yourself out there, but it’s worth it, and I know it’s incredibly overhaving your phone out is definitely a privilege, and I see phones whelming feeling like you have so many big decisions to make, but freshman being taken away almost every day. You get much more freedom in year should be about fun! Do and try as much as you can, while you can, but high school than you do in middle school, which is one of my fakeep in mind, it’s never too late to try something new.
