1

I HAD ALL HIS COMICS.

SOME WERE BENT AND CREASED-THE PAGES TAPED BACK IN-BUT I HAD A COMPLETE RUN.

OF COURSE...I SOLD WHAT I COULD TO GET HERE...

BUT I MADE IT.

2

Amelia! No!!

IN ONE FLUID MOTION DOCTOR BRIAN BENNETt BREAKS FREE FROM HIS RESTRAINTS AND FREES HIS WIFE FROM CERTAIN DEATH...

HOLY MOSES! i feel...more than human. i’ve evolved into what comes next--

what comes... after man!

3

I read an article last week about this guy visiting la on business.

Ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time...

4

Right in the middle of a bank robbery...

Afterman shows up. Couple of pows later the guy’s taking photos with the brian bennett. unreal.

What I would give to have been in that guy’s shoes.

5

i’ve never been the flying type.

6

i mean, i took the bus all the way out west, just to avoid flying.

back home, school and the hospital were the only two places i went-- and I always rode the L Train.

comics were all i had to get me through those visits.

it’s kind of hard to tell how crazy your mom’s getting when you take public transportation everyday.

7

you never think the people you see everyday are gonna go. but when they do, you build yourself back up from nothing.

those comics left an impression on me. i always got the sense that afterman didn’t have one of those introvert/extrovert complex like so many heroes.

he was himself inside and outside the suit. he was just a guy.

once your mom stares at you without an ounce of recognition, nothing can shake you. no break-up, no beatings, nothing.

i couldn’t do anymore for her than the help at the home could. so i left for the one city i knew better than my own-long beach-home of afterman.

8

clean slates are pretty rare...

you okay?

you..you’re...

THANKYOU Without the people listed below, what you are holding in your hands (or tablet/future-doohickey) would have been impossible. It would all just be words on a computer and art on Bristol board. Their help, well-wishing, and crossed fingers gave us the means and willpower to put these comics together, the fulfillment of lifelong dreams for many of us. We are forever grateful. The search for a clean slate has brought Greg Martelli to the southern California port city of Long Beach, home of his idol: the b-list superhero Afterman. But when events put Greg in the midst of a giant brawl between Afterman and his nemeses, Greg’s preconceptions of who Afterman is, and his entire life, will change forever. Suggested for Mature Readers
