After years of planning and weeks of promotions, the administration announces a historic step in the university’s advancement BY AUSTIN COOK News Editor cookar12@wfu.edu The university will announce the launch of the largest capital campaign in Wake Forest’s history on Oct. 18. The university has an
overall goal of raising a total of $600 million by 2018. The rollout of the unprecedented campaign will begin on Oct. 18, when students, faculty and administrators will be welcomed to the large tent constructed on Manchester Plaza at noon and 1:30 p.m. for a formal notice of the university’s fundraising plans over the next several years. “This is a signal event for an entire university,” said President Nathan O. Hatch. “We haven’t done this for more than a decade. In
some ways, while [the campaign’s] goal is to raise money, it has a deeper mission, and that is for the institution to clarify who it is and where it wants to go.” “It’s a big moment in the life of the university,” Hatch said. “It’s great for students to be a part of this.” Approved by the Board of Trustees in 2010 — and with roughly $315 million already raised — the announcement comes in the

Acceptance rate reflects focus on individual Compared to similarly competitive colleges, Wake Forest’s 34 percent acceptance rate is unusually high BY MORGAN SCHICK Staff Writer schimo13@wfu.edu While the university is certainly composed of students from all different backgrounds, the one thing that every student have in common is the celebrated memory of receiving acceptance letters. Little can compare to the pride felt while holding a letter that signifies admission to one of the nation’s top-ranked universities. Although students value going to a school that US News & World Report ranked number 23 in the nation, others still question whether the university’s acceptance rate is reflective of its level of competition. “We do need to be more selective,” said freshman Stephen Stahl. “We need to realize that going up in rankings further has more implications for our admissions process.” Wake Forest has the highest acceptance rate of all five schools tied for the 23rd ranking, at 34 percent acceptance.
