Fighting Back | One Year After Hurricane Harvey
SpringHill Suites Houston Northwest After sustaining major flood damage due to Hurricane Harvey in August 2017, SpringHill Suites Houston Northwest was forced to rebuild their first floor’s lobby, bar, and conference center. “The rebuilding of the SpringHill Houston Northwest was nothing short of a true team effort”, said Cole Baker, Vice President of Hotel Management Services. “Hurricane Harvey’s effect on our region was devastating, but proved to have no impact on the spirit of the people in Houston. From the ownership’s assistance in ordering replacement FF&E to the staff members that spent countless hours cleaning and recleaning a hotel that was partially under construction, we were able to quickly reopen the hotel for business and complete a full renovation of the first floor in a very short amount of time. I could not be more proud of the efforts of the hotel’s staff in continually going above and beyond to take care of our guests throughout a very difficult situation that also affected their personal lives.”

The art of rebuilding Artist Mario Ramos along with students from Lone Star College recently showed their community support by painting a beautiful Texas-sized mural on SpringHill Suites’s makeshift lobby wall. “This was a great opportunity to give back to the state and city I love very much,” said Ramos. “I had the opportunity to use my talent to bring a little happiness and help the recovery by possibly uplifting spirits, so it was a no-brainer.” A second mural, “Houston United”, was also completed and is on display near the hotel’s back entrance. This community relationship was formed in part due to the “Art of Local” – a local community art series from SpringHill Suites by Marriott. By showcasing the work of talented local artisans, Art of Local aims to inspire guests to explore each destination through art.
