PAM HOWARD Pam Howard is a hand-weaver, dyer, spinner, teacher and the Resident Weaver at the John C. Campbell Folk School. Her first time holding a shuttle in her hand was in 1967. She has been weaving nearly every day since 1985. With the influence of her Mother, a Home Economics teacher, she was inspired and encouraged to learn as much as she could about weaving and the fiber arts. Pam has taught at international and regional conferences, crafts schools as well as for local guilds. She worked for the Handweavers Guild of America on their advertising staff for Shuttle, Spindle & Dyepot Magazine. Pam is a member of Complex Weavers, the Southern Highlands Handicraft Guild, and the Modern Quilt Guild. She has held the position of Resident Weaver at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, North Carolina for 18 years. Not only does she hire the weaving instructors and maintain the weaving studio but, teaches there as well. Pam’s passion is teaching new weavers so that they get a good foundation. Currently, she is enrolled in the Olds College Master Weaver Program. Besides teaching, her woven and dyed work have been showed in competitions and invitational exhibitions all over North America. Pam uses the best materials to make a cloth that is not only pleasing to the eye but serves the purpose that it is intended to be. WORKSHOP INSTRUCTOR BIOGRAPHIES LOIS MCDONALD-LAYDEN Lois McDonald-Layden has been a felt artist for six years as Tuckamoor Wildcrafts. She produces wall art, bookmarks, art pillows and felted birds. She is inspired by nature and trees, flowers, the moon, sunsets, storms, and the ocean, predominately. Her passion is creating complex and beautiful felted wool paintings that are mounted onto deep gallery canvases or framed. She is mostly self-taught, but takes workshops at every opportunity and continually learns from other artists. From Newfoundland, she is an Army wife, who has lived all across Canada with her husband and three children, in some of the nation’s most beautiful places. She expresses her love of natural beauty through her art. Lois enjoys teaching felting workshops; usually needle and wet felted landscapes. Since the summer of 2015, she has been living in Oromocto, in the beautiful province of New Brunswick. Lois is making art full time and is dedicated to exploring this exciting creative outlet. She is fortunate to have a large studio in her home and lots of inspiration outside her door. Lois is building a body of work, regularly sells to galleries across Canada and to private collections worldwide, and accepts commissions. A horticulturist and greenhouse manager by trade, she has also managed a successful artist cooperative. While felting is her current outlet of choice, Lois is also an accomplished costume designer, seamstress, landscape designer and potter. She is a juried member of the New Brunswick Craft Council and a member of The Fibre Arts Network.
