FRANK REIDY

Dé Máirt 28 Aibreán | 7.00pm | Irish Writers Centre

Bhuaigh Ó Chósta go Cósta le Frank Reidy Gradam Uí Shúilleabháin 2010. Iar-Oifigeach Airm é Frank agus cur síos atá sa leabhar sin ar phobal is ar thírdhreach Oirthear na hAfraice. Leabhar taistil is ea é atá scríofa go hálainn agus maisithe go fial. Seolann an t-údar in dhow traidisiúnta agus eolas á chur aige ar chósta na Céinia; tugann sé cuairt ar mhamó Bharack Obama; téann ar safáraí; filleann ar Ruanda an áir, an tír ina raibh sé ag obair le fórsaí na Náisún Aontaithe sa bhliain 1994. Sa leabhar Seal san Aetóip: Sa Tóir ar Áirc an Chonartha, leanann sé conair Áirc an Bhíobla ó Iarúsailéim go dtí an Aetóip. Déanann sé staidéar ar ról lárnach na hÁirce i stair agus i gcultúr na hAetóipe agus nochtann meon áthasach na ndaoine ann. Tar éis dó labhairt faoina chamchuairteanna, beidh Frank i gcomhrá le fear an tí Cathal Póirtéir agus beidh deis ag an lucht éisteachta ceisteanna deacra a chur air! Frank Reidy’s Ó Chósta go Cósta explores the people and landscapes of Eastern Africa. In Seal san Aetóip: Sa Tóir ar Áirc an Chonartha, he follows the trail of the fabled Biblical Ark of the Covenant. After a lively talk about his travels, Frank will join MC Cathal Poirtéir in conversation, with the audience invited to join in.

BUAIL LEIS AN ÚDAR:

Liam Mac Cóil

Dé Máirt 5 BEALTAINE | 7.00pm | Irish Writers Centre

Stíleoir par excellence é Liam Mac Cóil agus duine de na scríbhneoirí is breátha sa tír, i gceachtar den dá theanga. Thuill a chéad úrscéal An Dochtúir Áthas an-chlú dó as an meascán meisciúil den fhicsean bleachtaireachta agus den anailís Fhreudach. Is gaisce é an t-úrscéal stairiúil aige An Litir agus níos mó na gaisceoireacht ann. D’fhéadfaí an rud céanna a rá faoi Fontenoy, úrscéal stairiúil eile ar maisiú ar an seánra é. Léifidh Liam as a shaothar dúinn anocht agus ina dhiaidh sin beidh sé féin agus Cathal Póirtéir i mbun comhrá. A prose stylist par excellence, Liam Mac Cóil is one of Ireland’s finest writers in any language. His acclaimed historical novels include Fontenoy and An Litir. Liam Mac Cóil is also the author of An Chláirseach agus an Choróin, a tour-de-force biographical study of composer Charles Villiers Standford. After reading from his work tonight, Liam will join MC Cathal Poirtéir in conversation, with the audience invited to join in.

SCÉINSÉIRÍ STAIRIÚLA THRILLING HISTORIES

Dé LUAIN 18 BEALTAINE | 6.00pm | An siopa leabhar

Tá an-éileamh go deo ar fhicsean stairiúil le blianta beaga anuas agus tá an tóir chéanna air as Gaeilge agus atá air as Béarla. Bígí linn le haghaidh díospóireacht bhríomhar phainéil le Cathal Póirtéir mar chathaoirleach uirthi ina ndéanfar plé ar chuile rud ó Chath Fontenoy go húrscéalta bleachtaireachta atá spreagtha ag gnéithe áirithe den stair. I measc na bpainéalaithe beidh Liam Mac Cóil, údar Fontenoy, a bhí ar ghearrliosta na Comhairle Ealaíona le déanaí le haghaidh an Laureate i gComhair Ficsean Éireannach, Darach Ó Scolaí, údar An Cléireach a bhuaigh Gradam Uí Shúilleabháin, Gradam Leabhar na Bliana i 2008 agus Seán Ó Dúrois, údar Rí na gCearrbhach agus Crann Smóla. Historical fiction has stormed the bookshelves in recent years and is as popular in the Irish language as in English. Join us for a lively panel, chaired by Cathal Póirtéir, that will discuss everything from the Battle of Fontenoy to historically inspired detective novels. Panelists include: Liam Mac Cóil, author of Fontenoy; Darach Ó Scolaí, author of An Cléireach; and Seán Ó Dúrois (Rí na gCearrbhach and Crann Smola).

WARS: A Multimedia Dance Performance Dé Máirt 19 BEALTAINE | 8.00pm | Boys’ School, Smock Alley

Damhsa, ceol, prós, íomhánna ar scáileán – léiriú ar an gcogaíocht agus ar an bhforéigean síoraí, bunaithe ar chnuasach gearrscéalta den teideal céanna le Dáithí Ó Muirí. Páirteach ann tá Fearghus Ó Conchúir, rinceoir agus fear cóirithe rince, giotáraí agus cumadóir Enda Reilly, agus Margaret Lonergan a bheidh i mbun na n-íomhánna scáileáin. Exploring the theme of unending war and violence, Cogaí is a stunning multi-media show that fuses dance, music, prose and screen projections – and is based on the short story collection of the same title by Dáithí Ó Muirí. It features acclaimed dancer and choreographer Fearghus Ó Conchúir, guitarist and composer Enda Reilly and screen projections created by Margaret Lonergan. Curated by Liam Carson.

THE DIRTY DUST: The Ó Cadhain Project Dé hAOINE 22 BEALTAINE | 8.00pm | Boys’ School, Smock Alley

Is dóigh le cách gurb é Cré na Cille príomhúrscéal na Gaeilge. Faoin bhfód atá na carachtair ach leanann siad leo ag cabaireacht agus ag tabhairt amach an t-am ar fad, an chúlchaint chéanna a bhí ar siúl acu i dtír na mbeo. Máirtín Ó Cadhain’s Cré na Cille is consistently ranked as the most important novel in Irish. Its characters all lie dead in the graveyard, but continue the banter, backbiting and petty gossip that characterised their lives. This multi-media bi-lingual show features brilliant English versions by Alan Titley, from his just-published translation The Dirty Dust, and by Liam Mac Con Iomaire, who has collaborated with Tim Robinson on their forthcoming version, Graveyard Clay. The show features music composed and performed by Rossa Ó Snodaigh, and screen projections by Margaret Lonergan. Curated by Liam Carson.

A VOYAGE OF DISCOVERY Aidhm IMRAM saibhreas na litríochta Gaeilge comhaimseartha a roinnt le cách agus an pobal a thabhairt linn ar aistear mistéireach. Prós. Filíocht. Ceol. An focal labhartha.
