K

iwiseeds is based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. We are a seed-bank offering a range of top quality plant and herb seeds for health and medicinal purposes. We are also professionals in the horticulture trade, and offer our expertise in this area. Kiwiseeds was started in an attempt to save some of the fast disappearing ‘oldschool’ genetics once the mainstay of the South Pacific cannabis industry. New Zealand’s main crop up until the 1990s was a blend of genetics, mainly sativa and Haze types brought back during the 1970s by travellers returning from countries such as Mexico, Thailand, Vietnam, India, Burma and Cambodia. These plants were typicaly fast-growing sativas that flourished in NZ’s warm/wet climate and long autumn periods. Using these old-fashioned sativa genetics, combined with high yielding indica types, Kiwiseeds bring you their range of F.1 hybrid, regular and feminised cannabis strains. Our cannabis seeds are the product of more than 15 years breeding with genetics sourced from NZ and all over the world. At Kiwiseeds we offer unique hybrids of our own, such as the Mako Haze, Milky Way, Cloud 9, and White Island, plus familiar favourites with our own twist, like the Kiwiskunk and Hindu Kush. Besides regular seeds Kiwiseeds offer a range of top quality feminised seeds. All the seed strains are grown and tested by us for vigour, flowering times and T.H.C. production. The seeds are professionally produced, fresh, and of very good health, ensuring the best germination rates. Kiwiseeds seeds carry a guarantee of 90%+ germination rate if grown the way we suggest.

Learn how to germinate seeds and grow plants easily with the Kiwiseeds step-bystep tutorials in this catalogue, or online at www.kiwiseeds.com

ABOUT SEEDS

I

f grown to maturity in the correct conditions, cannabis seeds will generally be dark grey or brown, or striped in colour, and measure 3-5mm in length and 2-4mm in diameter, depending on its origins. This beautifully patterned outer shell, the perianth, plays the vital role of protecting the delicate embryo inside, and should be of a good hard nature, without cracks or chipping. When choosing the right seeds to grow, the general rule is the bigger and darker they are the better. Different varieties of the plant produce different looking seeds. From the almost cannon-ball shape of classic Afghan seed, to the darker, more streamlined look of some sativa varieties, cannabis once again proves just how diverse she is! Cannabis is an annual plant, its lifecycle completed within a year usually, dying just after setting its seed for the next year. To keep the seed over winter months store in a cool dark air-tight place that stays dry. Be careful not to crush the

seeds. They may look tough, but damage can easily be caused this way. Discarding the obviously damaged, the very small, or very lightly coloured specimens, is the first step in the right direction for any budding grower, as this type of natural selection mimics exactly what nature would do. When you purchase your seeds from Kiwiseeds you won’t need to throw any away because all our seeds are carefully screened for defects, guaranteeing you get only the healthy viable seeds to start with.

MALES & FEMALES

C

annabis is a dioecious plant, which means male and female flowers develop an separate plants. Female plants are commonly reffered to as pistillate (having pistils) and male plants staminate (having stamens). For good quality cannabis we are only interested in the female plants. Sometimes monoecious examples with both sexes on the same plant are found, and these are commonly known as hermaphrodites. Unless needed for breeding purposes, any staminate plants (males) should be removed at the first sign of sex. If the males are left to shed their pollen, any pistillate plants (females) in the same area will be fertilised and produce seed. Once a female plant has been fertilised she turns all her energy into producing seed, and much less energy producing T.H.C. After a few weeks, the seed has matured and the plant dies, having completed its life-cycle. By removing male plants before fertilisation has occured a grower is able to manipulate females into flowering much longer, all the while increasing T.H.C. production. This is known as the art of growing sinsemilla or seedless cannabis.

f you are a Haze fan you’ll love the Mako. Real sativa growth habit, long elongated branches with dense clusters of flowers, and so sticky with resin it looks like millions of tiny diamonds. A little longer with the flowering times of the Mako Haze is more than compensated for by the end product. Huge Yields of quality smoke can be expected. When dry the T.H.C crystals are so thick under a microscope it almost looks as if they are matted together! The smoke is lovely and smooth, with a good hazy taste, and the high is up, up, up for a long ride. All in all very pleasant. 1st prize - best sativa Hightimes Cannabis Cup - 2006 3rd prize - Seed company bio Highlife cup - 2007 REGULAR 10 seeds

he highest mountain in N.Z and a plant that lives up to the name! A mainly indica cross that has all those familiar characteristics. Big wide leaves, thick short stems and branches, fat pungent buds simply coated in snowlike crystals. The smoke is heavy and stony, almost paralysing! Although a little longer than some Indica’s, Mt Cook has a reasonable flowering time, and good yield making it a great indoor plant. Choose mothers with short stocky features for best results.

N

ineteen eighty seven was the year that set Kiwiseeds on it’s path to success. That year Ray, a very good friend of mine, and an extremely fine grower, came back from California with handful of gigantic cannabis seeds. These turned out to be the very first indica plants grown in our part of the world, and it changed our lives for good. Within the 1st season we had bred our own hybrids using our strong sativas and crossing them with the Afghani indica genetics bought back by Ray. Ray’s choice is an 85%/15% sativa/indica cross (because Ray only liked a little indica in his sativa) It’s sweet and fruity and oozing resin that turns sticky when dry. Finishing times are good for the quality/quantity content. Choice Ray! Thanks mate! 2nd prize - indoor hydro Spannabis - 2006

hite Island is an active volcanic island, constantly belching out white clouds of steam and gas into the air just off the coast of New Zealand. Not far away overlooking all this is the fine cannabis growing region of the Bay of Plenty. It has been claimed by certain surveys, that this region produces some of the highest T.H.C content in Cannabis in the world! White Island is a straight F1 hybrid of this predominantly sativa local strain, and our own Kiwiskunk. The result is a plant with all the spicy sativa tastes of the bush, but not excessive with flowering times thanks to the Kiwiskunk influence. And whats more it isn’t a difficult plant to grow.

specially for the guerrilla grower, this strain was stabilised outdoors in New Zealand. She’s become something of a legend to the locals in the far north where an average plant could top the scales at more than 1 kg of bud! Add to this more than satisfying yield, vigorous growth, and extreme mould resistance, and you have the perfect outdoor cropper, that with a little bending and stretching will do equally well if not better indoors. his strain was discovered while on a trip to Spain in 2003. While there I had the pleasure to try some truely unique tasting marijuana and to my delight was able to obtain a few seeds. A year or two later we germinated the seeds along with others from my travels and the results were amazing. After selecting the best examples and crossing these back over one of our finest indicas, Alegria was born. Fat dark green leaves and solid Xmas tree form, with a big top bud. Sublime taste unlike anything you’ve tasted before. Lovely sunny strong up high, with a long steady plateau. rom high in the mountains around Afghanistan, Pakistan and Northern India come the indica family of Cannabis. Hindu Kush is your typical Indica type plant. Fat deep green leaves, almost blue in colour, and fingers that often overlap each other. Short and stocky in growth habit with lower branches that grow all the way to the top. Flower clusters are dense and form right along the branches. Extremely heavy resin production, early maturation, and good yields are characteristics of this strain. All this make the Hindu Kush strain a valuable plant for breeders and an important part of many modern hybrid cannabis strains. Perfect for beginners!

The strain was Reeferman’s John Sinclair AKA Red Congolese. The Dampkring Coffeeshop entered John Sinclair that year and it came in at 4th place. We thought she deserved far better and a lot of people would agree. This hybrid is a fantastic blend, merging of the finest cannabis has on offer. SEED GERMINATION

M

uch controversy surrounds the raising of cannabis seed. Many first time growers are bombarded with advice, often conflicting, on how exactly this should be done; however it need not be such a complicated task. Cannabis seed is simple to grow, and if fresh 90-100% germination rates are not unusual. The Kiwiseeds method for raising seed, has been developed from professional horticultural practices used the world over. We use it because it works, and it’s simple. If you use this method Kiwiseeds will always give a 90%+ germination rate. The method described is for indoor growing and uses flourescent lighting or low watt H.P.S to begin seeds. For germinating without lighting do everything the same, only place your planted tray of seeds on a sunny window-sill instead.

Equipment: 1. Propagator with bottom heat or 2. Heat pad + seed-tray 3. Thermostat controller 4. Soil thermometer 5. Perlite or vermiculite 6. Large jiffy pots + seed-raising mix 7. Fine sprayer 8. Identification labels & pen

1 2 3 4

Wet enough perlite to cover the bottom of the propagator aproximately 2cm deep. Plug the propagator, or heat pad, into the thermostat controller, and set it for 23 C. Place the heat-sensing probe into the wet perlite just beneath where the seedlings roots will be. If using a heat pad lay it out under the tray.

Pre-soak the jiffy pots in warm water for a few minutes then fill them to the top with seedraising mix. Make sure to take out any bigger pieces that may obstruct the young shoot as it emerges. This can be done with the help of a coarse sieve if you like.

Wet the jiffy-pots and the mix completely and allow to drain. Top up and repeat if the mixture has sunken too much. It’s important to have them as full as possible so the young roots have plenty of room for the week or two until they are potted on. Having a greater volume of mix in the pots means they take longer to dry out under the warm lamp or sun.

With a thin pointed object such as a pencil, make a hole in the centre of each jiffy-pot about twice the depth that the seed is long. This varies with strain, but 5-8mm deep should be sufficient. Often the mistake is made of planting seeds too deep, and this causes them to rot so as a rule, never sow seeds deeper than 1cm. If sowing more than one variety remember to label as you go to prevent mix-ups.

5 6 7 Germination tips * Saturate the perlite in a bucket with water first, then drain the excess out before using. (there should be no water running around the bottom of the propagator tray). * Make the mix in the jiffys firm but not too compressed. Young roots need to have air spaces between the soil particles to grow. * Always use around 23C bottom heat in the

Sow seeds directly into the holes, and cover with a little of the moist seed-raising mix from around it with the help of the pencil. Use more fine mix if necessary. Some growers have the patience to sow seeds a certain way up. This isn’t really necessary, from our experience, however if it is done, place the seed, point up, ensuring the root can travel down with ease.

Using the mister, spray the covered seeds until the mix is damp. Don’t pour water onto the pots as this can wash away the mix and expose seeds. Transfer jiffy-pots into the propagator tray, and settle them in making sure the perlite surrounds the pots, getting right up between them. This ensures the pots stay moist until well after the seeds germinate, protecting the young roots from drying out.

Set the tray under fluorescent lighting, a low-watt H.P.S, or the sun to keep the newly planted seeds warm. At this stage no light is necessary but warmth is important, and low light provides this without drying the pots out. An air temp of 20-22°C is ideal, the soil temp should be a degree or two higher at around 23°C. Humidity if regulated can be set for approximately 60%.

form of a warmed propagator tray or heat pad. Germination is triggered by warm wet conditions. Cold, wet rots! * Spray the tops of the pots until wet every day until the young seedlings have emerged. Keeping the soil surface moist avoids dehydration and over-heating of the shoot. * Once germinated place the seedlings under a low-watt H.P.S lamp or in the warm sun. Plants need strong light to grow. Flourescent lighting is not adequate.

SEEDLING GROWTH

A

s soon as the seedlings have germinated they need light. The food store supplied by the seed itself has all but been used up, and the plant needs light to photosynthesize and grow. When growing cannabis in the seedling stage you may choose how long you wish to keep the lights on, as long as it’s 18 hours or more. Advantages are that plants will grow faster with 24 hours light, and a constant temperature is easier to maintain this way, something hugely beneficial to young seedlings. Disadvantages are that you’ll need to water more, your lamps and ballasts don’t get a break, and the electricity bill increases. More importantly your plants don’t have time to rest, and it’s for this reason we advise no more than 21 hours light in a 24 hour period. Some advise to keep young seedlings under fluorescent lighting for a while but this doesn’t provide them with enough light for good photosynthesis. It is best in our opinion to place seedlings directly under low wattage Metal Hallide or H.P.S lamps, 150, 250 or 400 watt, at a good distance away. Once the plants are a few days growing they need to be moved closer to the lamps in order to prevent stretching. Move them as close to the lamp as the tops of any plants would be comfortable (30-60cm depending on the lamp size.)

Make sure a breeze (oscillating fan) is blowing over the young plants, primarily so they don’t over heat, but furthermore to help strengthen delicate stems by stimulating cellulose production. Spindly stems cannot support heavy flowering growth. The importance of your internal air circulation cannot be stressed enough. It will exercise your plants and make them grow stronger, while reducing many hazards that could ruin your crop. Now that the plants have strong light they require more water and nutrients as well. A light organic feed or nutrient solution starting with an E.C of no more than 1.2 (with the water already at .5) can be sprayed directly on the plant and watered into the soil. The seed-raising mix contains no nutrients so within a few days the plants will be hungry. Young seedlings love humidity, and a constant 75-90% is ideal at this stage. Use a cheap misting bottle, and regularly spray fresh water (ph- 6.5-7.5) over the leaves. This increases humidity, and washes dirt and dust off the leaf surface, unclogging stomata and enabling the plant to breathe properly. In natural conditions the rain would do this for us.

DISCLAIMER

K

iwiseeds specialise in the trade of medical hemp seed. Importing, stocking and supplying hemp seed is exempted from regulation under the 1961 U.N. Single Convention on narcotic drugs, and affiliated international treaties. In countries such as the Netherlands, freedom to trade hemp seed is clearly incorporated in the national Opium or Narcotics Act legislation. Warning! Unfortunately, regulation and implementation in respect of hemp seed often differ from country to country. For this reason we advise you as a matter of urgency to make inquiries about the regulations to which you are subject. Sometimes an exemption can be obtained for the industrial, medical and agricultural applications of hemp seed. In a number of countries trade of hemp seed does not require a permit. However, a notification requirement is sometimes imposed in the event that hemp seed is imported or exported for the purposes mentioned above. If notification requirement is applicable, you should in good time inform us, the authorities or both. Some nations prohibit the growing of Cannabis for industrial and medicinal use. Principally we believe that the relief from pain and suffering offered by medi-

cal marijuana has been proven and is more important than any unclear local legislation. Kiwiseeds has to work within the conflict between law and moral obligation. We do not want to violate or interfere with the legislation of any country by dispatching seeds. We feel we have an obligation under universal law to help people who suffer. We dispatch our seeds on the condition that others will not use them in conflict with applicable local law. Kiwiseeds does not wish to induce anyone to act in conflict with the law. We expressly point out that all those who purchase seed from Kiwiseeds are responsible for their own actions in the future. Kiwiseeds will accept no responsibility in this respect. Kiwiseeds does not accept any product liability. best regards Kiwiseeds team
