SCOUTING THE Trojans Troy, who posted a 12-21 record including a 6-14 mark in Sun Belt play last season, is led by first year head coach Phil Cunningham, who spent 12 seasons as an assistant coach at Mississippi State before joining the staff at Western Kentucky last season. The Trojans return three starters off last year’s squad and feature six seniors and seven overall returning players. Senior guard Hunter Williams is Troy’s leading returning scorer after averaging 10.4 points per game last year, while senior guard Antoine Myers returns after posting 8.0 ppg. OLE MISS-troy SERIES Ole Miss is 7-0 all time versus the Trojans including an 84-63 victory at home in the 2010 NIT First Round. All seven of the matchups have taken place in Oxford, beginning with the first game in 1958. The two teams also played in 1959, ‘81, 2000, ‘04 and ‘08. BIG SHOES TO FILL Ole Miss must replace three full-time starters from last year’s squad (Reginald Buckner – 36, Murphy Holloway – 35 and Nick Williams – 24) that started a combined 95 games last season and boasted 292 career starts. The Rebels must say goodbye to the school’s all-time leading rebounder in Murphy Holloway (1,093 career boards) and all-time blocked shots leader in Reginald Buckner (326 career blocked shots). Coleby starred at Piney Woods School averaging 18.9 points, 13.2 rebounds and 3.0 blocked shots as a senior for coach Lemuel Jones en route to Clarion-Ledger Dandy Dozen honors. Martin averaged 18.4 points per game helped lead his team to a 38-11 record as a senior for coach Van Whitfield at Princeton Day School. NEW ARENA ON THE HORIZON With $95 million in pledges and cash, the Forward Together Capital Campaign entered its building phase in September as Ole Miss works its way towards a new basketball arena. The building phase will focus on the Rebels’ new basketball arena and a five-story parking garage with 800 spaces serving the entire campus community. In order to be completed by September 2014, construction on the parking garage will begin this fall. Construction on the new arena will begin in the spring of 2014 with the goal to open the arena no later than January 2016, which would be in time for conference action.
