How would you react if someone were to tell you that, as a believer in the God of Israel, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, we are to obey our Heavenly Father’s instructions to not eat meat from any unclean animals? What about keeping the Sabbath and observing His feeast days? Most good Christian folks would agree that, yes, in the Old Testament, God gave all kinds of instructions, but those are not for us to worry about today, because Jesus has set us free from having to follow God’s Law. After all, the Apostle Paul tells us in the New Testament that Jesus nailed that old law to the Cross.
The scripture they’re referreing to is Colossians 2:14, “Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross...” [King James Version]
Let’s look deep into God’s Word to learn the legal jargon that the Apostle Paul was using to describe what that work of the Messiah really accomplished on our behalf.
