SINCE JANUARY 2013., DIRECTOR OF THE TOURIST ORGANIZATION OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF RAČA IS DAVOR TIMOTIJEVIĆ. IN 2013. TOURIST ORGANIZATION OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF RAČA HAS INITIATED A HYDROGEOLOGICAL, GEOLOGICAL AND GEOPHYSICAL STUDIES ON THE LOCATION "MIRAŠEVAC SPA" REGARDING THE DETERMINATION OF THE QUALITY AND YIELD OF UNDERGROUND MINERAL AND DRINKING WATER. ALSO, IN 2013. PREPARATION OF THE STRATEGY FOR TOURISM DEVELOPMENT IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF RAČA FOR THE PERIOD 2014-2019 YEARS HAS BEEN LAUNCHED.

RAČA IN THE HEARTH OF ŠUMADIJA
R
ača is the seat of the municipality with the same name which is, in 16 settlements, on the area of 216 square kilometers, populated by 4,196 households with 11,503 inhabitants. Important industrial, commercial and tourist centers are in its neighborhood. With its capacity Rača is very convenient for guests in transit, school excursions, hunters and sportsmen. With a rich hunting ground, sport courts, Olympic swimming-pool, sports hall, modern cafes and bars, gas stations, hunting house and hotel B category guests are able to visit one specially important range of cultural - historical monuments and jaunts. In the surrounding of the Municipality of Rača, at the distance up to 50 km there is a range of special cultural and artistic monuments with museums and galleries that guests with longer retaining can visit: Topola with Oplenac, Bukovička Spa and Orašac, The Monastery of Koporin, The Grove of Radovanje and The Church of Pokajnica, The Monastery of Manasija and Memorial park dedicated to the victims of fascism in Kragujevac. www.tor.rs | 1

RACA FROM 1918.
ača has always belonged to the District of Lepenica, in the heart of Šumadija, whose undulating relief descends towards the river Morava, traffic and economic backbone of Serbia. The area of the Municipality of Rača represents the low part of relief where only the hill Visak (396 m) stands out, from its top a large area from Rudnik and Levač mountains, and over the valley of the Morava river, to Beljanica and Homolje, can be seen. This whole area gravitates towards Rača which is the administrative, religious, economic, trade, craft, cultural, educational, health, transportation and sports center with 4.000 inhabitants. Rača was developed at the crossroads of Kragujevac Smederevo Palanka and Markovac - Topola. The municipality consists

of 15 rural communities: D. Rača, Vučić, Popović, Miraševac, Bošnjane, Viševac, Reed, Sipić, Djurdjevo Borci, D. Jarušice, Malo Krčmare, Veliko Krčmare, Sepci and Saranovo and borough Rača. Gravitating towards Pomoravlje, the main Balkan highway and railway destination, which is only 10km away, Rača has good connected
with all major centers in Serbia: Belgrade and Niš. Over Rača, also, pass transversal important roads that connect it with the internal parts of the Central and the Eastern Serbia: Kragujevac, Topola, Arandjelovac Smederevo Palanka, Svilajnac and Despotovac. an larger settlement in the Roman era was on the area of the halmet Adrovac, that was, allegedly, called Arča. The first written mention of Rača is in an Turkish census from 1489-91, and then in 1718. it was talked as brigand settlement of Constantinople 4 | www.tor.rs
road where an inn will be built. In 1784. Rača has only 43 Christian homes, two inns, caravanserai, cafe, tavern, built source and wooden bridge on the river. At that time, in the village Viševac near Rača, a future leader of the
First Serbian Uprising of Liberation from the Turks, on the 3rd / 16th November 1762 ., Djordje Petrović Karadjordje was born. Only after the First Serbian Uprising Rača develops faster so that it becomes the seat of the Lepenica Principality and then of the Lepenica District that extended from Mladenovac to Jagodina and Morava to Topola. In 1855, residents of Rača and surrounding villages built one of the largest and most beautiful churches south of the rivers Sava and Danube. By tha Law of 1866., Rača was proclaimed as borough, the first doctor came, the first reading room was established, and a post office got a telegraph. Soon one of the first large steam mills in Serbia was built. In 1890, first bank - Rača

savings was established, state fruit vine nursery garden, pharmacy was opened, a vocal group "Visnjic" and amateur theater were formed. Primary school, in that time modern school, near the church was built. In 1915. the old borough received the
power station and city lightening, in 1920 the lower High School was formed, and near inn and restaurant "Europe" with the hotel part was built. The first theater was in the restaurant "National". During this time, in 1928. advanced
youth founded Football Club "Karadjordje". Its final, today the old image, Rača got by the building of the Karadjordje’s house in which an orphanage was placed for children of Danube Banovina of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. www.tor.rs | 7

The History
KARADJORDJE’S HOUSE KARADJORDJE’S HOUSE 1975.
Imitating the monumental medieval castles, Karadjordje’s house in Rača was built, in 1932., by the architect Dušan Mićević from Belgrade in the neo-renaissance style and Art Nouveau as a monument to the restorer of the Serbian state. The two-storey building with five toothed towers and jagged facade attracts with its beauty and as such is unique in Serbia. This memorial building, in whose construction was involved and even Queen Mary Karadjordjević had a humanitarian purpose. It was intended to be a house for orphan children of the former Danubian provinces. 8 | www.tor.rs

It was founded in 1996. by the Rača’s academician Živojin Andrejić and a large number of Serbian scientists with the aim of studying mythological matrices and history of the Serbs and Balkan peoples, within the scientific meetings and works in the journal "Mithological collection". So far 25 conferences were organized in Serbia and the Republic of Serbian and the same number of "Mithological collections" was printed. On the basis of the achieved scientific standards the Collection is set by the Ministry of Education and Science of Serbia on the list of national importance. Over forty books of very important members of the Center were published.

HOTEL "ŠUMADIJA" Moderan hotel "Šumadija" is designed in Sumadija stile, built in 1981. and renovated in 2004. Besides the great Olympic swimming pool with extremelly clear, filtered water, with dimensions 50 x 25 meters for 2,000 swimmers, there is also a children's pool with dimensions 15 x 10 meters. Swimmers can use also a summer garden with a buffet and volleyball courts. During the evening entertainment takes place on the water and night swimming. A new, modern sports hall with 1,000 seats on the stands, is available for the guests, as well as for the sportsmen. The hall has specified grounds for handball, football, basketball, volleyball and recreational sports, as well as the buffet with restaurant, modern dressing rooms and bathrooms. Besides the hall there are illuminated and open playgrounds for all sports, as well as two new tennis courts.

HUNTING HOUSEIN THE VILLAGE BOŠNJANE
HUNTING HOUSE Hunting association "Gradiste" was founded still in 1894. Extremelly rich hunting ground with small game and birds (deer, rabbit, pheasant, ducks, pigeon, partridge) allows hunting turism during the year. The most suitable accommodation for hunters is in the Hunting House in Rača with stay over night in double and triple rooms (22 beds). Hunting house has even a capacity to accommodate dogs. Also modern restaurant with 70 seats and a kitchen with a variety of Sumadija and hunting specialties are available to all the guests.

Raca today RACA’S AMATEUR THEATER With a smaller interruptions Rača’s theater works diligently since 1896. In earlier periods it has successfully toured in Šumadija’s boroughs, and throughout Serbia since 1994, with a remarkable accomplishments, results and rewards. Actors and directors Dragoljub Jovanović (1897-1978) and Dejan Cicmilović (1971) originate from this teater.
DEJAN CICMILOVIC He was born 21. 7. 1971. High School of Acting he finished in Niš, and the Faculty of Arts in Priština, where he graduated in 1997. He played more than seventy roles in the theaters of Belgrade, Kragujevac, Niš and as well as in film, television and radio. He has directed more than twenty amateur performances. He was awarded at theater festivals. Permanent member of the National Drama Theatre Niš. He is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Arts at Kosovska Mitrovica, and teaches acting. 14 | www.tor.rs

A WINE CELLAR PAVLOVIC A small cellar "Pavlović", in the hearth of Sumadija District, in Serbia is established in 2002. They have started their production with small amounts. With the increase of their production, they became serious wine producers. The processing of grapes into wine they are working in the way to maintain their tradition in manufacture and to preserve "soul" of vineyards area. RAČA’S CHURCH LOG CABIN This church is dedicated to the St. Archangel and built in 1726. The Leader - Karadjordje was baptized in this church. The church is restored by Prince Milos Obrenovic in the first half of the nineteenth century. According to stylistic features of construction and beautifully decorated carved doors it is one of the most harmonious and the most beautiful buildings of this kind in Serbia.

CHURCH OF ST. PETER AND PAUL The church of St.Peter and Paul in Rača was built and began to work in 1855. It was designed by the Czech architect Jan Nevole in the monumental romantic style according to the model of The Cathedral Church in Belgrade. It is painted in romatnic style, and the highest value has its impressive and extremely artistic valuable multi-storey iconostasis which was painted by Milija and Nikola Markovic, in 1859. The Icon "The Annunciation to Zacharias" reaches the highest artistic achievements of Serbian church painting in the period of Romanticism. www.tor.rs | 17

THE CHURCH OF THE ASSUMPTION OF THE HOLY VIRGIN MARY
CHURCH IN SARANOVO The church of The Assumption of the Holy Virgin Mary in Saranovo was built in 1886., and consecrated by the Srbian Metropolitan Mihajlo. The construction is a trefoil, vaulted and with gabled roof. In the western part of the church there is two-storey bell tower. The old iconostasis painted in 1825. and in 1834. From Goroviča, was in this church. The old iconostasis was replaced with with a new iconostasis, in 1993., which was donated by Ljubomir Ivanovic from the United States. New iconostasis is the work of the academic painter Miša Mladenović from Belgrade. 18 | www.tor.rs

CHURCH IN ŠIPIĆ An older church of St. Kuzma and Damjan in Šipić was demolished because of deterioration, its iconostasis is from 1892, and the new church was built in 1928-29. It was consecrated by the Auxiliary Bishop of Srem Irinej. The church was built on the model of Lazarica. The iconostasis was made by Jovan Jovanović.

The Temple of the Birth of Virgin Mary in Malo Krčmare was built in 1930., and consecrated by the Bishop of Timok Emilijano. It was built according to the project of the Nikola Nastasović, son of the Sipic's priest and the first parish priest of the church, Milutin. The Church is the trefoil with a big dome. The iconostasis, from 1928., is the work of an unknown artist from Kragujevac. The bell is a gift from the King Aleksandar Karadjordjević. www.tor.rs | 19

CHURCH IN DONJE JARUŠICE
CHURCH DEDICATED TO TRNOVA PETKA
The village Donje Jarušice has still existed in 1476, and probably in the time of Serbian despotism. Legend says that the church of St. Archangel was built in the time of Nemanjići, and it is mentined for the first time in the XVI century. It was destroyed, and when its remains were discovered it was rebuilt by Prince Miloš Obrenović in 1824.
CHURCH LOG CABIN IN SEPCI Church log cabin in Sepci is one of the smallest of this kind in Serbia. It is shaped like a regular house with a porch. It was built at the end of the eighteenth or at the beginning of nineteenth century. It is thought that this was an outbuilding of Erakovic, the first settlers in the village. The church worked util 1895. when it was abandoned. Later it was transferred under the braches of the old oak – holy tree. The church is dedicated to Trnova Petka, and it was restored in 2002. 20 | www.tor.rs

CHURCH IN VIŠEVAC Only in 1994. the church of the St. George in Viševac was built, the native village of the Leader of the First Serbian Uprising. The church was built as an endowment of the Bishop of Šumadija Dr Sava - "With a wish of the Father and with enhancing of the Son and with the perfection of the Holy Spirit, holly and sacred temple of Christ's Martyred Georgie was built in Viševac, the birth place of Karadjordje, began in summer 1989., and in 1994. it was finished. God mention the founder Bishop of Šumadija Sava. To serve for the soul of father Vasilije and mother Milica." The church was built of stone by the project of the architect Radoslav Prokića from Kragujevac. The basis of the church is in the form of a cross with two side, rectangular apses of Raska's type. At the intersection of roof there is the dome. It has a small narthex and eksonarteks with bell tower. The iconostasis was done by the engineer Branislav Nikolić from Kragujevac, and icons by the Adonis Stergiu. Mosaic image of St. George above the entrance door is the work of the academic painter Misa Mladenović from Belgrade. The church was painted in 2004. under the trust and effort of the Bishop of Šumadija Jovan. The painting was done by the studio "Minić" (Mateja Minić) from Belgrade. www.tor.rs | 21

CHURCH IN VUČIĆ Since 1998. the construction of the temple of the St. Mark the Evangelist in the village Vučić has began. The project for the church has been done by architect Radoslav Prokić from Kragujevac. The church has a single nave with two shallow rectangular side apses. It has a dome, vaulted and covered with a gable roof. In the western part it has a high bell tower. It has been built of brick and covered with yellow stone.

CHURCH IN DJURDJEVO The temple of Virgin Mary in Djurdjevo was completed in 1997. It is consecrated by Bishop of Šumadija Dr. Sava. It was built according to the project of architect Radoslav Prokića from Kragujevac. The church was built of white brick. It is of cruciform basis with a dome. In the western part it has a bell tower. In 1943. citizens of the village Djurdjevo began to build the church, but it was demolished in 1948. at the order of the authorities. 22 | www.tor.rs

Djordje Petrovic Karadjordje
he birthplace village Viševac and neighboring Rača are, actually the part of, the narrowest homeland of Djordje Petrović-Karadjordje, the Leader of the First Serbian Uprising and the restorer of Serbia, on th econtrary from Topola whose undisputed significanace has one another meaning and symbolism. Viševac, certainly, more than Topola, although with the construction of the mausoleum at the Oplenac in Topola, there is established royal dynastic cult, represents an affective symbolic ruler medium of Karadjordjević
in which the history, statehood, nation and as individual as categories of Serbhood stronger connects in a single unit. Latent anachronism of monuments of Karadjordje in the birthplace, built in 2004., does not diminish his value, but, on the contrary, represents that insufficient link in the historical consciousness of people and the glorification of the Karadjordjević dynasty and provides opportunity for the identification in reality that is constantly changing. Great men from Raca future talks mostly about the past. Viševac is also another example of a late negative deflection of the negative consciousness of previous time so that, in the consciousness of the people from this area, sense of Karadjordje being born again was created. In this way, monuments of Viševac and Topola become rounded and final, highest mythical value of nation in the middle of a profane religion, creating in Serbia light of dynastic numinous aura. But the roots of the national consciousness that is established in Viševac, Topola and Orasac are located, primarily,

in the cradle of Djordje Petrović and Serbian liberation war which he organized and led. In the village Viševac, nearby Rača where he was born, in 1762, Karadjordje Petrović, the leader of the First Serbian Uprising, are the monuments and ethno-complex built in his honor. There is, also, a hill Gradiste, the rest of the former large estate of Karadjordje's father Peter, natural and hunting reserve, with magnificent linden trees which air and peace refresh soul and strengthen the body. Healthy rural environment of Viševac with a traditional cuisine and proven Serbian hospitality even today is the same birthplace, with that same milk and bread with which its heroes were fed.
Tourist guide of Raca THE MONUMENT OF KARADJORDJE On the 3rd / 16th November 1762. Karadjordje Petrović was born in the village Visevac. On the occasion of celebrating 200 years of the First Serbian Uprising, according to the sculpture of the academic sculptor Stanimir Pavlović from Belgrade, the monument in bronze is cast. Karadjordje is presented in stout standing position with an appearance of younger days, when he kept his flock with his rifle and was an brigand in his hometown.
PETAR’S YARD The complex of the yard of Karadjordje's father Peter, with wooden buildings from the early nineteenth century, was built in 2004. with the dislocation of authentic national constructions in this region. The yard was restored according to the preserved testimonies of the contemporaries of the First Serbian Uprising. "Peter's yard" constitues of a large log cabin house, outbuilding, cellar, dairy, storage space and apiary with hives near the source. www.tor.rs | 25

Great men from Raca Pavle Cukić
A great hero and Karadjordje's Duke of Župa and one of the major leaders of the Second Serbian Uprising, was born in Veliko Krčmare near Rača, in 1782. Pavle's son Uroš Cukić was the Head of the District of Lepenica with the seat in Rača, 1842-1854. year.
Dragoljub Filipović
He was born in the village of Lepenica, Lužnica, but the most part of his life he spent as a teacher and school director in Rača. He is one of the greatest Serbian patriotic poets from the time of wars of the first half of the twentieth century.
Djura Jakšić
One of the greatest Serbian poets and painters was a teacher in Rača from 1868. until 1869. During his stay in Rača he wrote two plays and several poems, and painted significant portraits. In the history of Rača, Djura Jakšić remained recorded as the founder Rača's library.

Academician Anthonije Isaković One of the greatest post-war writers, Antonije Isaković was born in Belgrade in 1923., but Rača and birthplace of his mother and his grandfather, until his death, called his native land about which the much he spoke and wrote about. The writer, a regular member and vice president of Serbian Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Radoje Domanović
The greatest Serbian satirist was born in 1873. His parents were from the Donje Jarušice and Veliko Krčmare. In Jarusice, where his father was teaching Radoje spent his childhood and very often stayed in this village and Rača.
Academician Vojislav Djurić Pantelija Srećković
Pantelija Srećković was born in Veliko Krčmare, in 1834. The most important Serbian historian of the age of romanticism, professor of the High School and one of the first Serbian academicians.

For these reasons, on 25th and 26th May, flower fair is organized in Rača with the participation of producers from all over of Šumadija, as well as other parts of Serbia. During the event, the cultural program is organized dedicated to flowers and honey, consultations, lectures, and selection the best decorated garden.

Karadjordje's days - Viševac-Raèa

Center for the mythological study of Serbia, Cultural Center "Radoje Domanović" and Cultural Association "Filip Višnjić" organize this event in honor of Karadjordje in his home village Viševac and Rača, each year, from 26th July until 16th November. An integral part of the event includes: Assembly of folk dances and original songs of cultural and artistic associations of Serbia, Bosnia and Montenegro, exhibitions, book presentations, scientific meeting and publication of Mythological collection.

In the visit to the Church under AUGUST the Holly Tree – Sepci On every 8th August, one great national assembly under the tremendous holly tree and by the log cabin church, and cultural program of whole Jesenica and Lepenica, is organized in Sepci.
Under the walnut AUGUST tree - Vuèiæ Every year, on the Transfiguration of Jesus, on the 19th August, an cultural manifestation with a variety of contents: original singing and dance, folk and serious music, poetry and prose, exhibition, presentation of the book of significant artists and historians of Serbia, is organized under the centuries-old walnut tree in the village Vučić.
