This month’s sketchbook zine is more of a contrasting affair than previous months, constituting finished work and initial rudimentary sketches. A concerted effort has been made to start writing narratives for the steadily growing paper mountain of comics poetry I’ve accrued in the ten months since I started this monthly zine. As I’m currently grieving (the exact stage of which I think *puts wet finger in the air* is acceptance) there is an inevitable appearance of some element of autobiography. They’re all autobiographical to some extent but, for the most part, this is battered, deep fried, and covered in surrealism. My dormant character of 2016, The Homesick Truant makes a return. My thrice weekly walk to the swimming baths, which includes circumnavigating a large, almost featureless, playing fields, has forced my hand in writing something from nothing to some success, and more reports from Hough End will follow in the coming months. The beautiful Brutalist Preston Bus Station makes an appearance, and there is another in my ongoing series of works drawn from found chairs. Tones and textures make a return, in the form of my dwindling collection of Letratone. As each sheet is around ten pounds, this may remain in infrequent affair. Familiar walks into town new routes around Prestwich feature, although place names are rare, so much is left to interpretation. There are many peeks behind the curtain, in the form of lines born in the field, which may become more accomplished drawings in future issues, such as some live drawing of the string section of folk act, The Unthanked, at the Royal Northern College of Music, and the winnings from a trip to Fleetwood to perv over their listed Radio Training Station. Standard street fair and some rare gag comics make up the rest of what is a pretty strong issue, all things considered. Thanks again for reading Oliver
