A Cast and Right Up Our Street Production Written by Richard Cameron Directed by Esther Richardson
Friday 6–Saturday 21 September
For our first production we wanted to make sure we had something that was unique to Doncaster, was full of fun and laughter, and that added to the celebratory party atmosphere of our opening. We believe we’ve found this in The Glee Club.
The Glee Club
Lyn Gardner, The Guardian
A song-filled comedy and a cracker of a play charting the lives and heartaches of a group of miners from Edlington. From Doncaster’s leading playwright, Richard Cameron, this show is funny, moving and full of Yorkshire charm (not to mention songs!). In the past the show has played in the West End and across the UK. Now this brand new revival celebrates our town, our new venue and the unique stories that come from our part of the world. There are many stories from ‘up North’ full of the spirit of Northern folk. You only have to think of Brassed Off, Billy Elliott, The Pitmen Painters, The Full Monty or Calendar Girls to name a few. The Glee Club is Doncaster’s own offering to these great Northern tales – and it won’t disappoint. Come and celebrate with us by enjoying a heartwarming and laugh-out-loud funny show. ‘When The Glee Club reached LA, I thought ‘it can’t get better than this’. But then they asked me to change to location from Edlington to The Apalachians. I said no. Better by far to be the first production at Cast. What a homecoming. It’s thrilling to be here’

Shadow Game Saturday 8 February
Ensemble 360 with the Beechfield Youth Orchestra and the Boyce Chamber Orchestra
Shadow Game is a new piece by Charlotte Bray, one of Britain’s most dynamic living composers, commissioned especially for Doncaster. It gives a fresh take on a centuries-old musical tradition – the ‘Sinfonia Concertante’, a style much-loved by Mozart and Haydn which allows a group of soloists to combine with an orchestra and dazzle with their collective virtuosity. Charlotte and some of Britain’s finest instrumentalists – all members of Ensemble 360 – join forces with musicians from across Doncaster for this World Premiere performance. As well as Shadow Game, a treasure trove of other chamber pieces will lead to an exhilarating evening of music. Wed 18–Thu 19 September A flat-pack knitted crime thriller that will leave you in stitches. We’ve all heard of Abba and Ikea. Now with Wallander, The Killing, Steig Larsson (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo) and another winning Eurovision entry there’s a fascination with our Nordic neighbours that’s stronger than ever before. Enter ex pop-star recluse Freya looking out of her log cabin in bitter midwinter. She smiles and turns back to her meatballs. But who is the stranger walking across the frozen wastes, in a fur hat, with a chisel? Murder is afoot.
Thu 26–Sat 28 September It’s 3am on a warm night in the back garden of a house in Doncaster and the party inside is just coming to an end. This is where young Tony and Ruth have their first encounter and the magic follows from there. Meanwhile, upstairs, pensioners Don and Edie are having a party of their own! A fantastically funny romantic comedy from the writer of Life on Mars, Torchwood, Dr. Who and more recently the hit ITV series Broadchurch. Follow these two couples through the early morning to sunrise, showing through laughter and tears just what the true meaning of love is. Second Space, 7.45pm £12 / £10 concessions
