Singapore Sundays

Let me start by saying this…. I love budget airlines. I always have, and I always will. Have I been burnt in the past? Yes. Will I be burnt again? Also, Yes. But, will I spend an exorbitant amount on an airline flight when there’s a cheaper, more awkward option? Always.

The time is 2:30 pm, and I’m laying on the floor of Bangkok airport because I missed my god dam flight, and there was no Jetstar staff in earshot of BKK. Was this partially my fault? Absolutely. But would it have been easier if Jetstar had a presence here? You bet…. But I digress…. I’m currently waiting to board a new flight from the ever reputable ‘Scoot Airlines’, who I haven’t had the pleasure of flying with before. But with their gorgeous yellow branding (similar to Spirit), I bet they will be just great.

The current plan is… get to Singapore airport. Find a Jetstar staff member and ask to be put on the second half of the flight back to Aus. I’ll be honest with you guys; it’s not looking great. But, this is the adventure we live for. Please keep your fingers and toes crossed for me, and I will check back in when I have a further update....

I’ll level with you guys, I spoke with Jetstar online, whilst waiting in BKK and they told me I have been labelled as a ‘no show’, which essentially voids any connecting flights that I currently have booked.... THIS IS AWESOME :)

As you read this, I am in the air, which is a start. The cards may not be in my favour, but I have a plan now. I’m going to march up the counter in Changi Airport and say. I don’t have my boarding pass; can you please print me another? It’s all about confidence. Why don’t I have my boarding pass? .... That’s beside the point. Here’s my booking confirmation. I’m labelled as a ‘no show’? How can I be here then? That doesn’t make any sense. Now, please print that bad boy and put it in my hot little hands.

~ I wonder if I have to go through customs to find the ticket counter or will it be on the side I’m already on? Who knows…. Hahaha

I’ll soon find out.

Honestly, I cannot believe that worked! I marched straight to that ticket counter, chest puffed out with my heart going 1 million miles an hour and the guy was like ‘oh, you dont your ticket, here have another one’. Like honestly, is it this easy? Haha, who cares! I’m in.

It’s currently 7:00 pm local time, and my flight home is at 2:30 am... #RIP. That’s 7 and a half hours; that’s another stamp in my passport. Let’s do this! Welcome to the layover, welcome to Singapore Sundays.

Man the stress of this day is really catching up to me, I’m so tired, but I’m determined. I take the train from Changi Airport to Promenade Station. It feels like it’s a million degrees outside, but yet I still find time to laugh at the ‘No Durians’ sign on the train. I’ve never eaten a durian, but perhaps I’ll be able to find one out on the street at 8:30pm on a Sunday night, who knows.

What’s a night out in a foreign city without an alcoholic beverage, you ask? From a local supplier, you say? A delicious beverage that I can walk and drink with? Well, I’m sold. One Lotus Bay IPA, please, I say to the man running a bar out of his van in the park. He assures me I can drink in the park before 10pm. This sounds like a tourist trap, but dam I’m thirsty. I’ll suckle on this whilst I gaze across Marina Bay, I think to myself.

What a night. Marina Bay Sky Gardens, check. Merlion, check. Local food market, check.

As I sit back on the subway, struggling to keep my eyes open, I think to myself;

Life is what you make it.

Would I have liked more time here in Singapore? Yes. Would I prefer to have not missed my original flight? Also, yes. But I’m going to be dammed if I’m going to let a delay make miss out on seeing a brand new city. Life is 95% you reacting to things that happen around you.

Make whatever you’re doing into something great. I’ll see you in the next one.
