Let Food be thy Medicine, At Oliver’s, we believe that the first sign of good health is when a person takes an interest in the quality of food they are eating. Too many of us live our lives with little aches and pains, colds, arthritis, indigestion, constipation, carrying too much weight and we think it’s normal to feel like this. What did you eat yesterday? Are you feeling gorgeous today, with clear skin and sparkly eyes? Are you feeling happy and full of energy?
We are what we eat. Our body is like a large juicing machine. We put the whole food in the top and our body breaks down the food to give us our daily vitamins, minerals, amino acids, fatty acids and energy and what the body doesn’t want, it gets rid of.
Unfortunately due to today’s busy lifestyles, we tend to push too many fat, salt and sugar laden processed foods into the top of our juicers! We end up feeling bloated and uncomfortable, a little off colour, achey and sluggish. We need to put fresh, water based, fruits and veggies into the juicer to help clean and flush our systems, to get everything moving again. Even into our old age, we should feel alive and well. Let food be thy medicine.
and Medicine thy Food.

Satisfying You might feel like protein balls are cropping up everywhere, but they certainly don’t all have your back.
For Jess Thomas, her effort to prioritise her health while climbing the corporate ladder was being railroaded by the 3pm 'hangries'. Too often she found herself reaching for a sugary snack or, even worse, choosing a supposedly healthy option only to find it full of hidden sweeteners and other nasties. The Health Lab story started when Jess decided to make her own protein balls. They were such a hit that she started supplying local cafés and gyms. Health Lab protein balls are vegan, glutenfree, refined sugar-free, grain-free, paleo friendly and made with 100% natural ingredients. They also taste amazing with a satisfying brownie-like consistency that puts an end to afternoon cravings. Being a plant-based protein hit (made from Australian premium grade pea protein) these protein balls are packed with amino acids and trace elements and are also highly digestible,

perfect for anyone with intolerances. There’s also a premium grade vegan probiotic added to boost immunity and digestive health. The Health Lab team now sell their products worldwide and have recently included a range of childrens' wellness snacks, including Choc Bliss Bites, stocked by Oliver's. Turmeric contains curcumin, a proven powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. Curcumin is a bioactive substance that fights inflammation at the molecular level. It also independently neutralises free radicals and stimulates your body's own antioxidant enzymes. Curcumin can increase levels of the hormone BDNF in the brain. A lack of BDNF is linked to various degenerative processes, including Alzheimer’s, and depression. Curcumin also improves the function of our blood vessels which, combined with its anti-inflammatory properties, makes it beneficial in the fight against heart disease. Ginger, closely related to turmeric, contains gingerol, a substance with powerful medicinal properties. It has long been used to aid digestion, reduce nausea and fight infections. It also has anti-inflammatory properties and seems to reduce pain in muscle and joints, including osteoarthritis. Lemons are high in heart-healthy Vitamin C and several plant compounds that help lower cholesterol and may aid weight loss. Some studies have linked lemons with preventing kidney stones, helping with the absorption of iron and reducing the risk of cancer. Look for the full range of drinks in-store

Phud's
for your best 'phriend'!
Tracey Brown, an animal herbalist and naturopath, initially started her business in 1999. Based in the Yarra Valley of Victoria, Tracey’s property was affected by the disastrous Black Saturday fires of 2009, forcing her to relocate. Inspired by the work of acclaimed English herbalist, veterinarian and writer Juliette de Bairacli Levy, Tracey concentrated her efforts on the development Phud’s Food (named for a beloved kelpie border collie cross) and a range of herbal-based support blends. Now based in the historic town of Maldon, Phud's promotes a healthy, raw food diet for dogs that is also chemical-free. Tracey sources much of the ingredients from local farmers, certified organic where possible. Phud’s Food is then freshly milled and packaged in Central Victoria. Phud’s dog food contains a range of super foods, with oats, lentils, veggies, flax seeds, psyllium husk, rose hip, dandelion and more. You simply mix it with boiling water and add fresh meat.
8
A wild dog will eat whatever is in its prey’s digestive system, meaning that vegetable matter is a regular part of their diet. A low fat, high fibre diet improves gut health, skin allergies and mobility problems. Phud’s is an every day food also suitable for cats although, being notoriously fussy eaters, they may not like the taste at first.
“I’m passionate about animals and passionate about my business. I only use the best. If you can't visually see what you're feeding your pets you should be questioning it." Shop for Phud's Food at www.phuds.com.au

certification EXPLAINED Oliver’s organic products proudly display the ‘Australian Certified Organic Standard’ (ACOS) certification logo as a commitment to providing healthy, nutrient dense food that not only promotes our health but also the health of the planet and future generations. The term ‘organic’ isn't regulated in Australia, so choosing products with a certification logo guarantees that it's truly organic, adhering to strict standards throughout the production process. By buying 'Certified Organic', you're choosing products that are made as nature intended. They benefit the environment as they're produced using environmentallyfriendly, biodiversity-friendly methods.
14
Animals that are free to range, that are pasture fed without growth hormones or antibiotics. Fruit and vegetables that are grown without synthetic chemicals, herbicides or pesticides. A better choice for your health and the health of our planet.
Buying 'Certified Organic' also means that you're supporting certified organic farmers, producers and businesses, of which there are now almost 5,000 in Australia. To achieve certification a farm, product or business must be independently, third party verified by a certification agency.
Oliver's proudly supports certified organic producers like R&R Smith (left), supplier of our fresh organic apples.
The certification process is rigorous and examines every part of the supply chain. The sourcing of ingredients, manufacturing and processing, right through to in-store practices, must adhere to a standard such as Australian Organic’s ‘Australian Certified Organic Standard’ (ACOS). Businesses are then audited annually to ensure that these strict standards are maintained. Australian Organic Limited (AOL) is the leading organic industry body representing certifiers and certified operators in Australia. AOL is a not-for-profit, member owned organisation that advocates on behalf of the certified organic industry by lobbying government and by driving consumer awareness of certification.
Established in 1987, and formerly Biological Farmers of Australia (BFA), AOL has been the major force in ensuring organic standards remain robust and are in line with global export markets. The certification logo is the most trusted organic logo in Australia, recognised by over 50% of customers and found on over 32,000 products across Australia. At Oliver's we're committed to working with AOL, and to supporting our organic suppliers and primary producers, for a healthy future.

Organic INDULGENCE Super delicious sweets from a pioneer of organic farming Green Grove Organics.
At Oliver's we believe that when you treat your tastebuds you should do so with quality sweets, organic if possible. Some of our favourites, and most popular in our range, come from Green Grove Organics, based in Junee, NSW. Green Grove Organics has an amazing back story as a pioneer in organic farming in Australia. The 1,100-hectare property 'Green Grove' lies in the fertile Riverina region and has been held by the Druce family since 1918.
In 1962 the current owners Alan and Jessie Druce, concerned about pollution in the food chain, set about taking steps toward pure food production. Alan eliminated harmful sprays, artificial fertilisers and other modern day farming practices designed to 'enhance' farm production. In the process Alan became one of the trailblazers of organic farming in Australia with Green Grove recognised as an organic test site of worldwide significance. The Junee Licorice and Chocolate Factory grew 'organically' from Alan and youngest son Neil milling their wheat into flour. They used an on-farm mill for two decades before needing to find an alternative site.
Find In-Store and Online
To complement their licorice production, the Druce's added fair trade, organic, Belgian-style couverture chocolate to the old mill's product range. These include the deliciously, chocolateenrobed organic berries, nuts and ginger that we stock both in-store and online. Fortuitously, the historic Junee flour mill, built in 1935 and inactive since the 70s, was on the market. It solved the milling dilemma but also led Neil to consider further products. Licorice might not seem like the obvious choice, and you might not know that it starts its life as grain. Neil was fascinated by the possibility of combining Green Grove's superior quality, organic grains with organic licorice root powder to create this traditional treat with a range of reputed health benefits.
We're very proud to work with Green Grove Organics and the Druce family who are continuing to lead the way in ethical farming and practices.

100 HIVES IN 100 SCHOOLS Little Star Bee Sanctuary on the Mid North Coast was started by Trudi and Steven Hayes to strengthen hive colonies of native bees and European honeybees, and provide protection from predators and disease. In the process they aim to create a holistic education and research community for the bee industry in Australia, striving for transformation, sustainability and integrity. There are currently over 100 hives at the sanctuary as well as a number of native bee ‘hotels’ for solitary native bees.
20
The sanctuary is chemical-free and provides the bees with a diverse diet of flowering species throughout the year. The Hayes started their beekeeping using traditional methods such as moving hives regularly to chase blooms (stressful for bees and also a threat to their biosecurity), supplementary feeding when needed, and constraining the bees and their queen for honey production. After a few years they started to notice problems with their hives, with significant colony loss from pests and disease. Some timely research introduced them
to natural beekeeping methods, and since adopting these practices their hives have become much stronger and healthier. The trade-off is less honey, with harvests since going natural sitting at just a quarter of previous. But a bumper season's yield followed by colony losses wasn’t making a lot of sense. Trudi and Steven have now launched the initiative 100 Hives in 100 Schools. This charitable foundation aims to place hives of native stingless bees (Tetragonula carbonaria) into schools along the Mid North Coast, aiming to increase the number of native bees and to raise the next generation of bee advocates. Native bees seem to be more resilient to many common pests and diseases than honeybees. Worldwide, bee colonies have
declined rapidly due to various threats including the Varroa mite. This pest is yet to make it to Australia but the bee industry is on standby for a mass impact.
We have much to learn about our indigenous bees, and the 100 Hives project aims to conduct research and collect data with the help of the schools involved. Native bees are very effective pollinators and offer an opportunity to diversify pollination practices within agriculture. By learning more, increasing their numbers and protecting their habitats the aim is to further secure our ecosystem and help primary producers too.
Learn more and get involved.

probiotics When Anya Yarrington left Russia as a young girl there seemed little need to continue eating preserved fruit and veg, an important source of nutrients in cold climates. But after developing some health issues it was recommended that she reintroduce fermented foods into her diet. Fermentation is an ancient technique of using yeast and bacteria to preserve and enhance the quality of food. The process creates a rich source of probiotics and living enzymes associated with a range of health benefits including improved immune function, digestive health and heart health. By the time Anya moved to Australia, and met husband Adam, she had a passion for creating fermented foods and drinks. Today Anya and Adam have a young family and a thriving business – Peace, Love & Vegetables based in beautiful Byron Bay – producing a range of fermented products that are raw, organic and gluten free, including their Kefir 11 tonic, containing 90 billion live, Super Strain probiotics. Traditional milk kefir has long been a popular drink in Russia, used to treat a range of
22
ailments. Peace, Love & Vegetables took the goodness a step further by using certified organic young coconut water in their kefir. Coconut water is extremely good for you and a great source of vitamin C, electrolytes and antioxidants. The resulting drink is an innovative, high end, probiotic tonic served up in a refreshing and pleasant tasting coconut water kefir. It's full of the highest quality probiotics, high in calcium, a good source of manganese, iron, magnesium and packed with Vitamins A, E, C and B-Complex vitamins. Anya and Adam recommend taking 90ml of Kefir 11 daily to reap the health benefits. Grab a 360ml bottle in-store at Olivers for four days worth of tonic.

the world's best WATER
Every bottle of Oliver's naturally alkaline water possesses truly unique and wholly natural health-giving properties.
It's the mineral content that makes Mt Elliot Springs water so unique, a result of the geology of the area.
When we went searching for a water for Oliver’s customers our wish list was quite specific. We wanted a completely natural, Australian owned water that tasted great. We found the perfect partner, and ticked all the boxes, with Mt Elliot Springs. With the added benefit that it’s a naturally alkaline water. Mt Elliot Springs is an aquifer on a 105 acre property at the foot of Mount Elliot in Far North Queensland, about 100 kilometres from Townsville.
26
The water from Mt Elliot Springs is a blend of two streams that come together in the aquifer under the property. One stream comes from the mountains on the left and the other from the mountains to the right. The streams themselves are fairly ordinary, but combine them and you get a mineral ratio that is quite rare in nature. As a result, the water from the Mt Elliot Springs aquifer is a naturally occurring Alkaline Spring Water, quite a rarity. Much of the alkaline water on the market is regular water that has been through a process of electrolysis to create alkalinity whereas our water is naturally filtered through the rock of the aquifer, picking up minerals as it goes. Oliver's Naturally Alkaline Water is naturally purified and typically contains the health-

"It’s like nature blended two springs to create the perfect water. It’s not just great tasting, being alkaline it’s good for you – good for gut health and better for rehydrating." In 2018 Mt Elliot Springs water won the top honours, voted the best bottled water in the world by a panel of international judges at
