COLLISION COWORKING FALL 2022 | Individual project Roanoke, Virginia

Collision is a coworking space located near downtown Roanoke. Roanoke is a city with many features but for this space, the building focuses on three main attractions, historical downtown, the train station and the Blue Ridge mountains. Each location serves as a hub for communication and collaboration so it makes sense to create a coworking environment inspired by these places.

ARTWORK EXPLANATION All through out the building are pieces of work by Bonnie Mason. The paintings go well with the space because they reflect all three attractions that the building trys to highlight. It gives the space the perfect amount of color and creativity to balance out its neutral earthy tones and palette.

ELEVATION OF PRIVATE OFFICES

MATERIAL AND FF&E SPECIFICATION The space aims to emobdy all three features of Roanoke while still having a cohesive flow of materials. To represent historical downtown, red brick was used for all structural walls. Concrete was used in the flooring to reflect the industrial train station. The wood panelling and green paint were used to give a earthy tone to imitate the mountians and forests all around the city. Overall the building has a neutral color palette to emphasis the materials selected.

THE CHELSEA EYE Fall 2021 | group project Chelsea, New York

Located in the heart of Manhattan, The Chelsea Eye is in close proximity to Chelsea pier, various art galleries, and Chelsea market which has pop up retail spaces for local artists and entrepreneurs. It is approximately a 0.2 mile walk from the High Line and a 0.8 mile walk from Pennsylvania Station, as well as surrounded by bus stops and metro stations which are all great means of transportation depending on where you want to go. New York City is a melting pot of all different cultures, artists, and talents, perfect for this textile artist to feel at home, as well as run a successful retail space.

MY ROLE As a group of 4, my team and I worked together from begining to end. So we all had our hands in every aspect of the project. That being said my main roles were creating the concept, choosing furnings, specing the furniture with materials, placing materials into revit, making the material spacifications and making the retail space perspective.

CONCEPT EXPLANATION The building is structured based on the Shaman’s Eye, a traditional symbol in the Navajo culture. This geometric pattern is popular and often represented throughout their woven textiles. The Shaman’s Eye consists of an outer diamond, representing the four directional corners of the world, an inner diamond representing a spiritual connection to the earth, and a central eye that holds all knowledge and future vision. This symbol helped influence the layout of our shipping containers while having the courtyard act as the central eye.

PINTEREST OFFICE Fall 2021 | individual project Washington, DC

The intent of this design is to take advantage of the curvature in the graphic design of the pinterest app itself. I wanted to use their new branding “endless flow” to help represent the space. So by creating “pods” throughout the space I was able to recreate the look of a scrolling pinterest board.

DESIGN EXPLANATION When designing the Pinterest Satelite office, I knew from my research that the employers are creative people. They need an outlet to go to when they need a break or during their lunch hour. This lead me to design a little reading nook and lounge area with video game hookups.

PIPELINE CAPITAL Spring 2021 | individual project Richmond, Virginia

The intent of this design is to take advantage of Richmond cities industrial complex and the creativity of its well known wall art and turn it into a space that evokes a positive experience for the user. This space will act as the pipeline between the cities people and their needs. This will be done by way of colorblocking and using design elements/ principles like line, color, pattern, unity and movement. Using both the city infrastructure and the wall art will provide for some contrasting colors and shapes. I believe this will provide a space for the community to come and get a sense of comfort but also help foster creativity and motivation within themselves. It will be a space they have never seen before yet they live right around its core elements.
