JOINERIES
PROJECT BRIEF: To make a structure using Mdf and metallic sheet that would withstand about 15-20kg weight.
CLASSROOM PROJECT: SEM 4 Group Project Duration: 4weeks
OUR CONCEPT: To create 3 cuboidal shapes that are composed within a given frame of space. Boxes were used to create joineries at right angle- to ensure the strenght and stability of the structure.
The structure can be used as a book shelf and can withstand 15-20 kg weight.
The 3cuboids are placed in such a way that they have no specific direction- so that the structure can be placed in any way. The metal-wood joinery is a detachable one.
THE JOINERIES USED Dovteil joint, finger joint, Box joint, Dowel joint and joineries using screws.
KITCHENEXT
PROJECT BRIEF: Selecting a family of 4 and designing an open kitchen for their house as per their needs.
COMPETITION - SEM 6 Group Project PROJECT DURATION: 4 WEEKS
BASIC RESEARCH: WORK TRIANGLES: Preparation zone Cooking zone Storage area Family Chosen: 2+2 (Parents working) KITCHEN CHOSEN: Previously was a closed kitchen now converted to an open one.
The area of the kitchen: 9.2 feet x 15feet( around 135 sq,ft)
The Proposed layout drawings
PROBLEMS CATERED TO: Maintaining the look of the kitchen throughout the day. Storage of items in their appropriate places in a systematic manner. Inconvenience while washing vessels at the basin( strain caused in the back). Cabinets above the stove getting oily due to the kind of food prepared.
The different body postures at the basin. Platform height: 3 feet (approx.) Considered human height: 5feet
SOLUTION: Provided a leg space beow the sink - which will reduce the strain caused in the back while washing vessels . Chamfered edge near the leg space . Provision of a stand/rack for stacking the plates that are regularly used. Also provision of hooks for hanging cups, spoons and pans right above the sink sp that the water drains out directly into the sink and not over the preparation zone.
STORAGE WASHING AND DRY AREA
SERVING
PREPARATION AREA COOKING
SOLUTION FEATURES: Provision of a vertical trolley with adjustable shelves for storage of spices, sugar,salt.etc. right below the cooking area, making it more convenient while cooking. We tried incorporating the traditional ways of stacking with thw modern. (By using a combination of cupboards and trolleys). Also storage of onions, garlic and potatoes within the entire module-under the prepartion area.
INDO-AFRICA PROJECT 2013
PROJECT BRIEF: To design an installation( a surface for projection of moving images) for a film festival that reflected collaboration between India and South Africa.
LIVE PROJECT - SEM 4 Group Project DURATION: 6 WEEKS
MY CONCEPT: Relating the architectural style of the Voortrekker monument to the Mughal architecture found in India. Using the pattern that is found on the Voortrekker as my parent formrelating this to the use of triangles to form a motif, pattern or texture in indian architecture. Relating the tribal art of Africa and India. Attributes: Loud, Colourful, Basic, Intricate, Vibrant, Nature inspired.
The pattern on the Voortrekker wall.
Taking the geometric nature - used origami technique to make simple forms
Incorporating Expressionism while maintaining the geometric nature
Form derived by using two or more triangles having the same centre point.
Using the play of negative and positive spaces- keeping a contemporary and classic feel.
MAX HEIGHT: 10 feet The scale of the structure can be played with depending upon the location of placement and the kind of projection. Since too many surfaces to project on, the play of light and shadow can be experimented.
INDO-GERMAN EXHIBITION 2012 The exhibition took place in the month of January 2013 was an exhibition that celebrated 50 years of collaboration between india and germany. Was a part of the documentation team.
Design to me is a Way of Thinkng - Its a sensitive way of looking at things around . What interestes me is the Process rather than the Final output. I am a Sincere, hardworking and a dedicated student of Retail and Exhibition design, Sem 6, MITID, looking for an internship of 6-8 weeks in the month of June,2014.
