Olly MacNamee - words & pictures

GRAFFITI With the sad news that there will be no City of Colours Festival this year, I thought it was about time to dig out any new photos I’ve managed to accumulate over the last few months and get another edition of Graffiti Seen out in time for the summer. Although, as I write this and stare into the distance all I can see are the ominous dark, sullen clouds that threaten the start of the true British Summer time and not the one the tabloids love to flaunt on that one week we gain Mediterranean weather and the paps are out taking snaps of young women in bikinis and calling it news!

is still the sight of new graffiti pieces on virtually a weekly basis to be viewed on the boards that back onto a make-shift carpark on Bradford Street where once the old coach station stood.

Still, even without the City of Colours (promising to be back next year and making their presence felt across Birmingham with smaller bespoke events) there

This is where I tend to gravitate towards, and so in this issue my main focus is, once again, Bradford Street and Digbeth, seemingly Birmingham’s centre for all things bright and colourful. And those are just the hipsters.

Still, I hope you enjoy this edition of Graffit Seen. Not as long as the last one, but packed with photos that offer an insight into the mad skills that exist beyond that there London.

There are pieces by Gent 48, Newso 48 as well as many pieces from many other talented artists too. And, as always, because these are not my pieces - I merley photograph them - I upload this for free to let anyone who stumbles upon this fanzine know how great Birmingham is and how talented its artists are. If you’ve never been to Brum and suffer from believing the stereotypical guff about this city (remember, this is no longer the home of the old, grey, expressionist Bullring, but rather a city in the throws of its own Renaissance with it’s own modern day Michelangelos, Da Vincis and Botticellis) then what’s stopping you?
