Known history of this region is connected to Luvi, Kizzuwatna, Hittite, Asur and Babylon Kingdoms histories. The region dominated by Hittite, Urartu, Asur, Babylon, Lydia, Persian, Seleukos and Roman Empire. In the period from 7th century to the Ottoman conquer; Arabians, Abbasi, Egyptian Tulunoğulları, Seljuklians, Mogols, the crusaders, Memluks, Ramazanoğulları and Karamanoğulları had taken control of the region. From the 16th century onwards, Mersin and its neighbourhood were added to the Ottoman land.
