Gary Heery & Nic Fiddian Green

Olsen Annexe | 12 March - April 5, 2025

Olsen Annexe is excited to bring together the photographic mastery of Gary Heery and the sculptural devotion of Nic Fiddian Green in an exhibition opening 12 March 2025. This exhibition explores the enduring presence of the horse in contemporary art with both artists working through their distinct mediums to share a deep admiration for the equine form in all its grace, strength and timeless symbolism.

Heery’s photographs extend his portraiture expertise to the animal world, capturing horses with the same intimacy and psychological depth as his renowned human sitters. His images depict a quiet intensity, light and shadow revealing the musculature movement of his subjects, preserving their physicality and spirit.

For Fiddian Green, the horse is not just a subject, it is a lifelong pursuit. Influenced by classical approaches, his sculptures are imbued with an ancient grandeur, echoing the Parthenon friezes that first captivated him. Whether monumental or intimate in scale, Fiddian Green’s sculptures embody a reverence for the animal’s majesty, bridging antiquity with a contemporary expression.

Together, these significant artists present a dialogue between two artistic disciplines, each seeking to capture the horse, its power and elegance, with sensational mastery. In their work, the horse is more than an animal, it is a symbol of endurance and beauty with a connection to history that continues to shape the present.

The exhibition is open in the Olsen Annexe 12 March to 5 April, with an opening celebration Saturday 15 March, 2 - 4pm.
