Well, flip the pages to read about this eccentric dude who is keeping it up with the combination of venturing into the business world and rocking us sky high with his talent simultaneously. And we have stuff on you on obesity. It can be devastating to your good health if left unchecked. And what do you know about tumor, this silent killer that lodges quietly within and do damage on our body? Health is wealth o, abeg. And Davido has proved to his fans that he has a heart of gold, wow, giving out a million to a fellow Nigerian badly in need of tuition fees for his education, in a random pick. The world can never have too much of such generosity. Hey, before I leave you to peruse 4Clique’s pages, let me remind you to go through our technology section and see what the telecommunication giants have up their sleeves for us and which of them is really making giant leaps. meet smade Can we know you? My name’s Adesegun Adebayo Adeosun Junior, born in Lagos on the 24th December 1984. I am the first son of a family of 12. Tell us your background? I hold a first and second degree in Marketing & Advertising. I am the founder and CEO of SMADE UK LTD and a Director of SMADE INVESTMENTS LTD NIGERIA.

Who is Smade?

If you are not in the entertainment world today, what would you be doing ? I’d be an active director of SMADE INVESTMENT LTD in Nigeria which is currently run in Nigeria by my Dad. What’s really the inspiration behind this profession? My dad taught me a lot about business and its principles growing up. And I’m lucky till date he’s very supportive in anything I do. Have you ever regretted leaving that for entertainment? No, at all. I believe there is no limit and I can always manage both at some point in my life.

personality

How did you get the name SMADE ? The name SMADE was created by my father in 1984 as SMADE INVESTMENT LTD. But I’ve managed to be creative and find different meanings to it. For me, the name SMADE is a portmanteau, which is a blending of the words Self and Made. The idea behind the name was to reflect the hard work and hustle that was a part of my journey into creating SMADE as a venture. And I believe it adequately responds to how the new generation strives to achieve, or feel about, their aspirations and work. It connects with everyone.

A guy that just wants to keep achieving and wants to be successful. A very creative, hardworking and God-fearing guy.

Currently, how will you rate Nigeria Entertainment industry? Very good, it is growing everyday with all the international acts showing interest in our Afrobeats music. I’d rate it 9/10.

rolls out HyNetLTE for high-speed broadband across Lagos.

s part of efforts to drive its Bold New Digital World vision through the delivery of business-enabling solutions and technology, MTN Business has rolled out its enhanced broadband Internet service, MTN HyNetLTE, across Lagos. Now, whether you’re a home user streaming multiple movies, a small office/home office (SOHO) owner seeking a reliable Internet connection or an SME uploading and downloading heavy, business-critical files – whatever you do – the upgraded MTN HyNetLTE is designed to drive greater efficiency, improving the way you live, work and play. Our objective is to continuously create new value for our customers, stated Mr. Alexander Ibehre, the acting Head of SME Segment at MTN Nigeria’s Enterprise Business Unit, adding, “This is also part of our resolve to take small businesses to the next level through technology. The incredibly fast MTN HyNetLTE service is indeed positioned to help SMEs have an awesome broadband experience, do business much better and ultimately turn them into huge success stories.” Customers who have the old HyNet modems also have an opportunity to swap those modems FREE for the all-new LTE-enabled devices. All they need do is to simply visit any MTN WalkIn Centre, submit the old modem in exchange for the new one, switch on the new modem back in the office or at home – and they are ready to browse. In a similar development, MTN Business is offering both existing and new customers up to 10GB of free data this summer for every new subscription. Plus, the bonus data is available for use anytime of the day. MTN HyNetLTE, which offers an array of plans to suit customers’ usage patterns, is currently available only in Lagos and is coming soon to other cities across Nigeria where customers currently

enjoy the existing MTN HyNet service. Samsung out with new laundry technology SAMSUNG Electronics West Africa, a global home appliance innovator, has launched the new additions to its home appliance laundry designed to elevate the everyday home experience for consumers, making laundry at home easier and even providing health benefits. Featuring outstanding performance, smart, consumer insight driven design and sleek functionality, Samsung displayed its latest innovations – including a new one-stop laundry solution at the launch of the new activ dualwash. Managing Director, Samsung Electronics West Africa, Brovo Kim, “with today’s multi-tasking families busier than ever, we consistently hear from consumers that they need easy and convenient ways to tackle everyday laundry needs – like prewashing fabrics, treating stains and picking up household dirt. They are looking for home appliances with clever solutions that help them take care of their home efficiently so they have time to pursue the things they really want to do. “Our lineup of innovative and stylish laundry solution delivers on this consumer need. Samsung appliances are the ideal combination of simplicity, performance, technology and innovation.” Research showed that when it comes to laundry, the most tedious task is pre-treatment and pre-wash. Most homes don’t have a sink in their laundry rooms, requiring consumers to pre-treat/ pre-wash elsewhere and bring the items to the machine. The simplest and most convenient way this can be done is through the latest top load washer from Samsung. This innovative and stylish product solves the most tedious laundry needs with a simple, yet revolutionary feature activ dualwash. The top of the activ dualwash laundry machine

includes a built-in sink with water jet and gentle scrubbing surface. This convenient sink provides a separate space to pre-treat tough stains, like heavily soiled sports uniforms, or hand wash items like delicate fabrics. Once finished, the laundry and water can easily be poured into the machine. This all-in-one solution allows consumers to handle the entire wash process in the laundry unit instead of having to spread it out over multiple locations, avoiding mess and saving a considerable amount of effort. Speaking at the launch, the Director, Consumer Electronics, Samsung Electronics West Africa, Sunil Kumar, said the activ dualwash laundry

machine also features the magic dispenser detergent drawer which creates a powerful water vortex, dissolving detergent and dispersing it evenly even before the wash cycle starts. “With this new technology, consumers can wash a normal load of laundry with virtually no detergent residue on their cloths or detergent drawer. The active dual wash is the first Samsung top loader to feature this technology,” he said. Activ dualwash is currently available in Inox, (16kg.) and Silver (13kg), Wine (8.5kg) and features a rear panel with a dual-cluster design and easy-toaccess control buttons, which are fully protected from water splashes.

Glo’s subscriber acquisition rate is fastest

Etisalat came second with a record of 3.4 percent growth rate moving from 28,680,757 in the first quarter to 22,852,232 at the end of the second quarter. Airtel placed third, growing by 3 percent from 28,680,757 in the first quarter to 29,564,766 at the end of the second quar-

ter. MTN recorded the least growth rate of 2.72 per cent moving from 61,149,397 in the first quarter to 62,813,111 at the end of the second quarter. Globacom has remained consistent going by the latest report. It will be recalled that the National Bureau of Statistics had earlier in the year credited Globacom for driving growth rate in the industry. The NBS had quoted NCC’s 2015 first quarter report indicating that Globacom recorded a whopping 1.63 million new subscriber from May 2014 to April 2015 bringing its total subscriber base to 30.03 million. A report of the NCC also showed that Globacom acquired 1 million new internet subscribers in April translating to 67.98 percent of new subscribers in April 2015. The report also revealed that MTN lost 384,487 Internet subscribers within the period while Airtel recorded 669,518 and Etisalat had 231,661 new Internet subscribers in April. 4clique magazine | www.4clique.com

GLOBACOM has been adjudged as having the fastest subscriber acquisition rate among other operators in the second quarter of 2015 as shown in the latest report by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). The telecoms operator outperformed other telecoms companies by recording the highest growth rate of 5.86 per cent at the end of the second quarter. The report which was released on the website of the NCC showed that Globacom increased its subscriber figure from 25,177,125 in the first quarter to 31,256,677 at the end of the second quarter.

Cancer

Immunology (Neoplasia)

n

eoplasm (from Ancient Greek νέοςneo “new” and πλάσμα plasma “formation, creation”) is an abnormal growth of tissue, and when also forming a mass is commonly referred to as a tumor or tumour. This abnormal growth (neoplasia) usually but not always forms a mass. The World Health Organization (WHO) classifies neoplasms into four main groups: benign neoplasms, in situ neoplasms, malignant neoplasms, and neoplasms of uncertain or unknown behavior. Malignant neoplasms are also simply known as cancers. Prior to the abnormal growth of tissue, as neoplasia, cells often undergo an abnormal pattern of growth, such as metaplasia or dysplasia.[5] However, metaplasia or dysplasia do not always progress to neoplasia.

health

TYPES A neoplasm can be benign, potentially malignant (pre-cancer), or malignant (cancer). Benign tumors include uterine fibroids and melanocytic nevi (skin moles). They are circumscribed and localized and do not transform into cancer. Potentially-malignant neoplasms include carcinoma in situ. They are localised, do not invade and destroy but in time, may transform into a cancer. Malignant neoplasms are commonly called cancer. They invade and destroy the surrounding tissue, may form metastases and untreated or unresponsive to treatment, will prove fatal. Secondary neoplasm refers to any of a class of cancerous tumor that is either a metastatic offshoot of a primary tumor, or an apparently unrelated tumor that increases in frequency following certain cancer treatments such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy. Rarely there can be a metastatic neoplasm 12 4clique magazine | www.4clique.com

with no known site of the primary cancer and this is classed as a cancer of unknown primary origin. Clonality- Neoplastic tumors are often heterogeneous and contain more than one type of cell, but their initiation and continued growth is usually dependent on a single population of neoplastic cells. These cells are presumed to be clonal – that is, they are derived from the same cell, and all carry the same genetic or epigenetic anomaly – evident of clonality. For lymphoid neoplasms, e.g. lymphoma and leukemia, clonality is proven by the amplification of a single rearrangement of their immunoglobulin gene (for B cell lesions) or T cell receptor gene (for T cell lesions). The demonstration of clonality is now considered to be necessary to identify a lymphoid cell proliferation as neoplastic. It is tempting to define neoplasms as clonal cellular proliferations but the demonstration of clonality is not always possible. Therefore, clonality is not required in the definition of neoplasia. Neoplasia vs. tumor- Tumor (Latin for swelling, one of the cardinal signs of inflammation) originally meant any form of swelling, neoplastic or not. Current English, however, both medical and non-medical, uses tumor as a synonym of neoplasm. Some neoplasms do not form a tumor. These include leukemia and most forms of carcinoma in situ. A tumor (American English) or tumour (British English) is commonly used as a synonym for a neoplasm (a solid or fluid-filled cystic lesion that may or may not be formed by an abnormal growth of neoplastic cells) that appears enlarged in size. Tumor is not synonymous with cancer. While cancer is by definition malignant, a tumor can be benign,

precancerous, or malignant. The terms “mass” and “nodule” are often used synonymously with “tumor”. Generally speaking, however, the term “tumor” is used generically, without reference to the physical size of the lesion. More specifically, the term “mass” is often used when the lesion has a maximal diameter of at least 20 millimeters (mm) in greatest direction, while the term “nodule” is usually used when the size

of the lesion is less than 20 mm in its greatest dimension (25.4 mm = 1 inch).

health

Causes-Neoplastic tumor of the cheek skin, here a benign neoplasm of the sweat glands called hidradenoma, which is not solid but is fluid-filled. A neoplasm can be caused by an abnormal proliferation of tissues, which can be caused by genetic mutations. Not all types of neoplasms cause a tumorous overgrowth of tissue, however (such as leukemia or carcinoma in situ). Recently, tumor growth has been studied using mathematics and continuum mechanics. Vascular tumors (formed from blood vessels) are thus looked at as being amalgams of a solid skeleton formed by sticky cells and an organic liquid filling the spaces in which cells can grow. Under this type of model, mechanical stresses and strains can be dealt with and their influence on the growth of the tumor and the surrounding tissue and vasculature elucidated. Recent findings from experiments that use this

model show that active growth of the tumor is restricted to the outer edges of the tumor, and that stiffening of the underlying normal tissue inhibits tumor growth as well. Benign conditions that are not associated with an abnormal proliferation of tissue (such as sebaceous cysts) can also present as tumors, however, but have no malignant potential. Breast cysts (as occur commonly during pregnancy and at other times) are another example, as are other encapsulated glandular swellings (thyroid, adrenal gland, pancreas). Encapsulated hematomas, encapsulated necrotic tissue (from an insect bite, foreign body, or other noxious mechanism), keloids (discrete overgrowths of scar tissue) and granulomas may also present as tumors. Discrete localized enlargements of normal structures (ureters, blood vessels, intrahepatic or extrahepatic biliary ducts, pulmonary inclusions, or gastrointestinal duplications) due to outflow obstructions or narrowings, or abnormal connections, may also present as a tumor. Examples are arteriovenous fistulae or aneurysms (with or without thrombosis), biliary fistulae or aneurysms, sclerosing cholangitis, cysticercosis or hydatid cysts, intestinal duplications, and pulmonary inclusions as seen with cystic fibrosis. It can be dangerous to biopsy a number of types of tumor in which the leakage of their contents would potentially be catastrophic. When such types of tumors are encountered, diagnostic modalities such as ultrasound, CT scans, MRI, angiograms, and nuclear medicine scans are employed prior to (or during) biopsy and/or surgical exploration/excision in an attempt to avoid such severe complications. The nature of a tumor is determined by imaging, by surgical exploration, and/or by a pathologist after examination of the tissue from a biopsy or a surgical specimen… (Source: Wikipedia).
